It's just the sorry state of our Britishness that means we don't like confidence. The script has to be: Mock humble Self deprecating Coyness in ability and qualifications It's a strange cultural trait as so often we say the opposite to what we mean or actually believe in a bid to come across as not showing off. On a show that is intrinsically showing off it is quite refreshing if a contestant just owns it. |

It's not confidence that people don't like ... it's the outward show of it. There are plenty of brilliant people (Jayne Torvill & Christopher Dean for example ... Audrey Hepburn etc) who are obviously confident ... but they don't overtly show it until it comes to performing.
It's just not an attractive trait. If you work with someone who thinks they're the bees knees ... it's irritating. Even if they are the bees knees. It's wearing as well .. plus they're usually noisy, attention seekers. I'm not saying Ore is ... haven't seen enough of him yet to form an opinion. But when Jo and he were paired up and they did that little pre-planned dance routine (for want of a better phrase) it was annoying. I'm getting Kellie and Kevin vibes ... which is to say I think Ore and Jo will bring out the worst in each other. Wasn't impressed by their first outing but will wait and see. |

He's an individual and he's definitely one to watch. Along with Will, he's one of my favourite male contestants this year for the final stages. I'm a quiet person who doesn't mind loud people at all, just so long as it comes from something authentic in them. (It's pretenders I don't get on with)

Perhaps Ore is (over)compensating for Joanne's lack of confidence in him? Why else fill 90 seconds with bikes, glasses, comic books, colour-wheel costumes and bench bothering instead of tango?

ETA - And just to clarify...despite my current reservations about Ore's ego, I do think he has the potential to be a very strong dancer. Sort it out, Joanne! |

Well I'm sorry but I loved both Ore, the dance & Jo's choreography in week one & am looking forward to many more weeks for this pairing!!
They tuck in nicely just behind the 'big four' of Daisy, Danny, Louise & Will for their week one performance for me!! For irritating & annoying read Judge Rinder & Tameka in my book, though hopefully they might tone it down a bit as yhe weeks progress!! |

I find him pretty irritating and he seems to be taking to the studios promoting himself nearly as much as Ed Balls.
Much to my surprise he was on the Wright Stuff this morning when I switched on, and yet again came across as cocky. Worse, he used the f word when he was talking, and more to my surprise I don't think he even noticed, nor was he corrected! For a BBC presenter that's pretty bad,I'd never heard of Ore before the launch show, so had no idea what he did or what he is like. But, like you, I thought he came across as far too cocky and full of himself. Also a bit sleazy - did we really need to know he "jumped much too high over the bench so his trousers bunched up...." or whatever; then Christine starts questioning why he keeps putting his hand on her thigh - and let's be honest, Christine is no shrinking violet! Strictly is about more than just the dancing, hence so far, he's the one I would like to see eliminated first. |

Not a fan, he's really cheesy and corny. it reminds me of how I felt about Chris Hollins and seeing how long he lasted that may be good for Ore but not so good for me!

Yes, I want him to shine. But to expect him to forget his media training be be 'ever so 'umble is just ridiculous! |

I really like him. Nothing wrong with being confident and into it.
Coupled with Joanne it's possibly a tad "two toddlers who've found the Haribo stash" Hopefully they'll calm down as the comp gets tougher and Joanne will step up the choreo as promised otherwise It'll be a two horse race between Danny and Louise. |

The problem is the pairing. If he was with Oksana or Aliona, they would calm him down and make a really good pair.
As it is, well, he is not coming accross as likeable as he could. |

It's early to call a decision. I think Ore has talent and some skill. I disliked the tango and blamed Jo for that but I'm willing to give this couple several more chances as he's a good dancer.

Must be very difficult if you are good to know how to pitch how tough you are finding it. I find people coming across (to me) as if they are exaggerating how difficult they are finding it more annoying than confidence generally, but it all depends on whether someone winds you up the wrong way or not, which is mostly beyond our control.
I was expecting Ore to be my favourite, and I like him well enough, but that tango was a major disappointment for me. I don't know if Joanne wanted the props or the music or had them foisted on her, and she can't be held responsible for the horrible colour of the floor they were against. I think they will do much better dances and will settle into the show as well with a bit more time. I think most of the contestants seem a bit uncertain and scripted at the moment. But he won't get to do another tango, whatever else he dances, and I think he had a better, not comedy tango in him, and that makes me a bit sad. |
