Had such a good laugh with her today. When confronted about her driving licence

I have a professional licence ...............then she gets corrected PROVISIONAL licence

If she was working as a GP and someone came to her complaining about a bad cold, she'd just give them a sweater.

Kim is brilliant in her role

She's brilliant. Thought it was abit OTT tonight though about the disabled toilet. Ok i agree it's wrong to use them just cause she's got loads of shopping bags lol, but in real life I mean cmon, are they trying to say people haven't used one? If you're pregnant for example and you're dying for the loo and they're all full, of course you're gonna use one! If you have IBS or another condition and you need the loo desperately, you might use one! Even if someone did use one in desperation, most of the time theres no one waiting to use it, and if someone disabled suddenly did turn up, they are only going to be waiting like 2 mins for someone to pee and wash their hands. Seriously, Donna was abit dramatic tonight!

I for 1 think it was a very good light hearted story line to high light the issues disabled people face when things like this are abused!! Much the same as disabled parking. Disabled toilets are located next to regular toilets in nearly all locations and there is no reason for them to be abused by able bodied people ... as a parent to 3 wheel chair depandant children i dont feel donna was at all dramatic and the lives of disabled people would be alot easier if those with full use of their legs were thankful and actually used them!

So just a PC lecture on tackling people using a disabled toilet. Whatever next? Roll eyes.

I see no problem with someone with IBS using a disabled loo.

Someone can have full use of their legs and still be disabled! Same as with a blue badge - you don't have to be in a chair.

I overheard a lady being told by the manager in Sainsburys that these disabled toilets are not disabled 'only' toilets, but disabled 'access' toilets, and anybody can use them.

I have a temporary stoma and was given a key to access disabled toilets. No point having a key if they're open to everyone.

I don't think the writers always get Kim's characterisation right but I think Tameka is one of the most talented on the show if they got the right tone with her she'd be a great character.

Agreed, many disabilities are invisible. I've come across loads of stories of people walking out of a disabled toilet and getting glared or shouted at only for them to inform them that they actually to have a genuine reason to need those toilets. Same with parking spaces.

The one I was talking about was key less.

That's the point I was making re the key. To stop them being used by those without a disability they should be accessed only by those with a key. The one we have at work is now locked but used to be open for anyone to use. I'm going to try my key when I go back next week.

Yes, the one where I work is only accessed by those with a key as well. But the one in Sainsburys isn't. No idea why they're all different.

I never knew this until I heard that manager. Must admit it did surprise me.

That's correct and in most places they are made accessible for those with various forms of disability ( that could be the extra space they need for a medical reason/device not just lower or grab handles etc ) not for the use of disabled persons only.

Some people will say only a disabled person should use them , most disabled people will say if the others are full then use them if no disabled person is waiting.

It is the same as say hotels , not every room is fully equipped for disabilities but some will be but you do not keep those rooms empty permanently on the off chance someone with a disability will turn up wanting one.

Many people wont use them as they feel embarrassed but to me there should be no issue, don't deprive a disabled person when you can wait but if they are not in use then use them, it is about equality not preferential treatment that's the whole point.

The blue badge is another matter and dishonestly using one and dishonestly taking up onstreet disabled parking bays when there is no need is wrong.

Can't believe I didn't know any of this.

Thank for the detailed post skp.
