For months now I have noticed the show getting very light hearted but currently the scripts and storyline's have become very comedy style and it's got to the point that it's becoming cringe.

The only serious storyline was Belle's mental illness but with her gone everything's getting like a panto and unrealistic.

I'm thinking the same. A bit of lightheartedness is good but it's getting excessive now. There are no gripping plots to tune in for. And any of the good plots disappear off-screen for weeks just after something big happens, and by the time the storyline picks back up we've forgotten what happened. I hate that style of storytelling.

Not so much a comedy as a tragedy.

Corrie was the same up until recently. Luckily it's not as bad now. But I agree about Emmerdale. Tonight's episode was rather cringe worthy.

I think we're just going to have to get used to it, it seems to be Ian's vision for the show. ED has such a great cast that are capable of much better stories that this, it's a shame.

I hate what they've done to Jimmy. What ever happened to the ruthless KIng brother who was married to Sadie?

More power to them! Hopefully we're getting back to the real, balanced Emmerdale and can forget about pseudo Midsomer.

I've watched Emmerdale from I was a kid and don't remember it being like this.

It started its decline in 2005 and apart from a couple of lucid moments has gone steadily downhill since.
If Iain MacLeod has resurrected its funny bone and is ignoring Aaron/Ross types more and more then long may he reign. He just needs to use Sandy, Pearl etc. more and maybe bring in some more of the same to refill that table in the Woolie. Another person we don't have now is a gossip to replace Betty (if anyone really can).

There is nothing comedic about the vile antics of Dross Barton

Jimmy and Nico make me cringe.

If the show is unwilling to recover Jimmy from buffoon mode then I think it's time they got rid of him.

A comedy that doesn't actually make me laugh.

ED used to make me laugh, when the scripts were decent. But the weird broad slapsticky stuff they're doing now just makes me want to die of cringe.

I honestly can't stand these two. I love Nicola by herself though. In general, i can't stand characters who are there to be laughed at and do silly things. That is what sitcoms are for, not soaps. So irritating. It's pure filler and just to make up the time.

Emmerdale isn't a comedy - it's a joke!

Remember those zinging one-liners we used to enjoy? What we get now isn't even good enough for pantomime slapstick.

Did ex-HO bring a new team of writers with him or did Kate Oates drip some poison in his ear. Doc Martin's receptionist was going to be away for a few days and, to preserve her position, gave her stand-in a list of things to do which were all things she knew the doc hated.

They think they are making comedy but they arent, it is cringeworthy stuff that cannot be laughed at, also the dognapping storyline is just about the last straw for me, the thought of 5 dogs being locked in a barn suffering, is just too much, I used to love Ross, but now can't stand to see him on screen. the Jimmy Nico stuff, was terrible, the Marlon gluing the cupboard to the floor, terrible. give it up Emmer.

Utter dross.

OH and me sat poker-faced throughout last night's ep. I find paying the Council Tax funnier than this cack.

That nonsense with Ross and the dogs - words fail.

I think Emmerdale is the most enjoyable at the moment out of EE, CS and ED. I'm guessing at the moment it is light hearted as there is meant to be some big week in October so then it may be more serious

There's definitely too much comedy at the moment. A bit is fine to complement the more serious storylines but i think the current balance isn't quite right, plus some of it is more cringe-worthy than funny.

Last time they went overboard on comedy was the Anita Turner era of 2008 and that didn't end well.

I think it's got the perfect mix and thank god one of the soaps allows some lighthearted moments, not all of us want to watch misery.
