Now TV and Chromecast
I was trying to help my dad set up Now TV on Chromecast yesterday and he kept getting an odd error message that I hope someone can help with - by the way, I was doing this over the phone so I can't 100% confirm he was doing everything right.
So he already uses Chromecast on his Hudl - so I just got him to download the Now TV app and login (which worked ok). He then turned on the Chromecast and the Now TV menu appeared on the tv. But when he went to play a channel it gave him the error: "Sorry we don't support HDMI streaming to your TV from mobile devices. But don't worry there are loads of ways to get NOW TV on your big screen. Watch it with Apple TV, Chromecast, your Xbox or Playstation, or the NOW TV Box. Find out more at nowtv.com" He wasn't using a HDMI cable obviously. Did anyone else encounter this or have any idea of how it can be fixed? |

If your Dad could see the NowTV menu it sounds like he was trying to cast the tablet's screen to the TV, that is not how it works with Now TV. You should not cast the screen, instead just start the Now TV app then click on the chromecast button in the app. Then when you play a programme it will appear on the TV, but it does not cast all the screen contents.

Not that he would normally turn the phone off of course. Also any app used this way has to be Chromscast enabled,he would see the cast button/symbol showing when the Chromcast and his phone are both connected to his wi-fi network. I don't know if the Now app is Chromcast enabled, but I am sure someone will answer that question. |

That's right, your dad should be able to turn the phone off once content has started playing,it will still continue to play.

Though if you look at the guide that Now TV produced it does say that you will see the Now TV menu on the tv (step 4). http://help.nowtv.com/article/Using-Chromecast |

I just tried this, I saw a full-screen still image advertising the film 'Daddy's Home' on Sky cinema. In the centre of the screen it said 'Ready to cast'. There are no menus or options visible.

Beware, you can only have 4 devices registered to Now Tv, and a Chromecast counts as one, as does/will the device you are starting the cast from,
So android/Ios device=1 slot used, chromecast = 2nd slot. Much easier to buy a Now Tv box ( and it works out cheaper when they are on sale as well combined with a pass) |

Quick question - it says you can have two devices in use at the same time. So i'm assuming that with the chromecast issue that means that if someone is casting that no one else can use Now tv?

Annoying that you lose one of the Now TV passes to the tablet/chromecast though - wish it wouldn't count the Chromecast, but just the tablet which launched it. |
