Anyway, what people have entirely forgotten over the last few years is there was never any actual confirmation we'd get a DVD release in the first place, just that the show was being filmed. I totally understand the desire for one, I want one too, and the disappointment if none is forthcoming. But for people to be like spoiled toddlers about it is shocking.

When did people get like this? ”

It reminds me of when the shows sold out and the "I've been a fan since the year dot but couldn't get/afford a ticket. Do a tour Kate for your fans in (insert northern town). Not everyone lives in London" posts. They ignored those who travelled from around the UK and world to see her. Everyone had equal chance and the tickets were a pretty good price. I didn't expect to get one and booked a hotel in London, having to tell the job centre where I was going. I think they just couldn't be bothered like my friend in Scotland. I've seen a couple of those posts on her FB page regarding the DVD. Not as nasty as March 2014 onwards so far. Are these entitled ones the same type of 'fan' moaning because she didn't sing Wuthering Heights etc at the Apollo? My dad's not a fan but I showed him The Ninth Wave when it was on YouTube and he thought the staging was excellent. I got him to listen to Prologue this morning and he enjoyed it. If the DVD ever comes out you can bet the entitled ones will still find something to complain about.

However Kate was never about "hit singles" and she was never going to do that as any fan would know.

After her first tour her view was "been there, done that, no need to do it again" and it is the same with the songs she performed on that tour. She always said in the intervening years she would only tour again if it felt like the right thing to do and, to be honest, it was only because of her son Bertie wanting to see her perform and cajoling her in to doing so that she played at all.

Whilst I agree with what you are saying, why go to the time, trouble, and expense, of filming a couple of the shows if there is no intention of releasing a DVD/Blu-ray?

But, like the live CD/vinyl recording of the shows, any DVD/Blu-ray release will be on her terms and no-one else's.

Does her son inherit? Sounds like a good reason to cajole his mother to work again.

Sorry to confirm to everyone that I have it on very good authority from someone close to her that the DVD will NEVER be released. The rumours are correct in that she hates the way she looks on the recorded footage so has stopped any plans to release it. Its as simple as that. Obviously believe me or dont believe me but just telling you what I know. Its such a shame, but there you go.

On the liner notes, Kate refers to this release as the audio document, so I wouldn't rule it out.

many artists record shows on video and audio and never release them, for various reasons. there may have been an intention to release it but minds were changed afterwards, such as not being happy with the footage. you can't really tell until afterwards if you are going to like the footage. an artist who is fussy about what they release and has no monetary or commercial pressures may opt not to release something

it's a shame it's not coming out on bluray. it would have been miles better than the cd

I'm not a fan of vinyl but the multi disc set appears particularly off with having to turn discs over and change so many times to listen to a show, especially with just 2 tracks on at least a couple of sides. I'd rather have it all one one disc or ripped to pc and play it all in one go, and that's why bluray would be better

I can believe it. There have been stories circulating for years that Kate hates how she looks now. Even back in 2005 in her video for King Of The Mountain she goes to what lengths she can to conceal her figure and generally no longer appears in her own music videos at all for the last two albums. I find if very sad. To me she looks like a lovely, warm older lady who will always be beautiful due to her amazing spirit and talent. Being skinny isn't everything no matter what the ignorant morons out there think and I wish people like Kate wouldn't let the body shamers chip at their confidence if that is indeed what's happened.

If you look at her career the one thing you can say for certain is that she isn't motivated by money and certainly wouldn't have done it for that reason!

If it had been all about the money she'd have played the O2.

Exactly!

She even looked at the O2 when looking at venues for BTD. She said the O2 was far too big for the show as she wouldn't feel connected with the audience.
She could have earned so much more money from this return to stage but it was never about the money. I'm glad Bertie convinced her to return. We have him to partly thank for BTD.

I'm very much excited by the CD/Vinyl. I've ordered both.

I've already seen rumours of a DVD/Blu ray released before xmas (but I doubt it).
I've also seen people suggesting reissues of her first 4 albums on vinyl/CD. I would love that if it were true. All remastered I would hope.

I've also seen people suggest a new project being announced but in January 2017.

All of these we have to take with a pinch of salt of course.

I'd be gutted if her next project was re-releases. I've never been able to see the point of remastering to save my life. If someone wants to explain what's worthy about them to me though I'm all ears.

Remasters vastly improve the sound of albums. Tori Amos has done it recently with a couple of hers. Little Earthquakes sounds much cleaner and more fresh. The other album (I forget which) was a bit hit and miss but she's doing the same for Boys For Pele. Vocals can become clearer and instruments sound better.

I don't think the next project would solely be reissues. I would like a reissue of TRS and Aerial though as they are the two vinyls that I desperately need.

Nah, don't believe that for a second. Firstly, KB allegedly spent a million quid staging BTD. But whatever the true figure it was obviously a lot. The show was created as a visual spectacular, and was ecstatically received by fans and press alike. KB knows that millions of fans could not attend and would love to see the show on DVD. None of them give two hoots how slim she is, or not.

Also, I cannot believe that KB is so fragile as to worry that - like all of us - she ages. But even if she was, she can easily afford a personal trainer to whip her into shape. A woman I know, who is five years older than KB ( and worked with exercise and willpower) recently shed four stone, and looks great. So it can be done, if someone is that bothered. KB is very wilful, but preventing the release of a BTD DVD based purely on vanity sounds beneath her.

She didnt tour for 35 years. She didnt do the gigs for the fans, she didnt do it for the money, she did it for her son, nothing more, nothing less.

If she does'nt like the way she looks on the footage then she certainly isnt going to still release it, just for the fans. People change though, you never though in 5 or 10 years time she might look back and wish that she looked like she did when she was 56 and think, yes I will release it. This is Kate. No one knows.

Technically, she still hasn't toured again. BTD was a residency. But I take your point, that if she doesn't want to do something no power on Earth is going to tell her otherwise....

Except this time there's the Blessed Bertie. If he wants to see himself on a DVD, it will be in the shops PDQ.

She does'nt need a dvd release for that, she has probably already got a "finished" edited recording of the gig with all Berties bits for him and her to fawn over.

Not doubt that is the case, Pete. But these are folk in showbiz, who by their nature want the approval of an audience. The Blessed Bertie will surely want to win the adoration and fiscal approval of fans. Sitting around the goggle box with mum, cooing an ahhing as to how talented he is can only go so far.

I couldn't get tickets to her live shows so really looking forward to this - next best thing, I guess!
