I can't believe that people care so much about Graham's bashing of Trump. What's the big deal? The show isn't always light hearted and I don't see what's so glum about making light of a pretty bad situation. I know that I need to joke about Trump being President in order to feel better about it.

It is supposed to be an entertainment show not talking politics. Thats what Daily Politics, This Week and Question Time is for.

People watch entertainment to get away from politics.

Commenting on a forum on public figures' approach to promoting their politics and beliefs is slightly different to personally insulting somebody directly on that forum.

One is an opinion. The other is a personal insult.

Anyway, I don't say that about them because I disagree with them. I would agree with them on many things.

But that doesn't mean I can't be critical of them or their appearance on a chat show.

It makes absolutely no difference, and you know it. However it does give you an excuse to ignore the rest of a person's post, in an attempt to discredit them by undermining one insignificant detail. Does it hinder your understanding? No, as the names are very individual. To follow your lead, it's a bit like when people comment on the grammar of someone's post because they can't actually say anything useful to further the discussion. (Yes, I know that grammar can hinder your understanding, unlike the example given by Hyram Fyram, whiich makes absolutely no difference to understanding at all.)

(For the record, it is absolutely a conscious decision to use first names, and I will always continue to do so. That is, unless of course I am writing for academic purposes, when I will adhere to the rules set by the specific institution; until I can get the rules changed.)

I can only assume you are young because politics and politicians have been mainstay of many comedians for many years, the alternative comedians of the 80s and 90s made a fortune off of thatcher and the tories.

I don't know why people keep complaining about Graham joking about Trump every week because all the American chat show hosts including Stephen Colbert, James Corden and Jimmy Fallon do it every night. Trump is comedy gold for these guys at the moment. He's the joke that keeps on giving. Chat show hosts have been doing it for years.

Graham makes a quick joke at the beginning of the show, but people are acting like he has long, serious debates about why Trump is awful. The reaction is baffling to me.

It's a shame there aren't more celebrity interviews like this. Rather than it always being just light fluffy entertainment.

There is an OBVIOUS political agenda coming from forum members who continually moan about jokes relating to Trump or Farage. Just as there is an obvious political agenda coming from forum members who accuse guests of being "fanatics", when the guests are clearly just sharing points of view and interesting diverse ideas.

I don't think it anything to do with people still living in the '50's. I think it is mainly to do with the fact that Perry is such a boring twot - whether he wears a dress or not does not change that.

I was born in the early 1990s, so I'm not sure why you're bringing the 50s into it.

That's different because their primary audience is American, so what Trump does matters more and they can do more about it. (That said, they also represent part of the problem that helped get him elected.) It goes over less well here because we didn't vote for Trump, we couldn't vote for Trump, and he isn't our leader. There are worthy targets closer to home.

But there's always been political jokes about US Presidents over here. Especially the ones rife for ridicule like Reagan, George W Bush and now Trump. Spitting Image were always doing sketches featuring Reagan. The jokes write themselves with these guys.

It's unquestionably going to be 4 entire years of Donald Trump being used as a lazy punchline for every second joke broadcast on TV. That's just obvious.

I hadn't even weighed in on the tedious Trump jokes until now, but surely nobody can really believe that Norton or any other comedian on TV is going to lay off these endlessly repetitive jokes once he takes office.

Did they ever stop with the tiresome George Bush is dumb jokes? Have they stopped doing the Farage jokes now that the referendum is over?

It's just such unbelievably lazy humour. And it's the ubiquity and repetitiveness of such lazy humour that I find tiresome. Is there a chat show, panel show or comedian on TV that's not making such jokes currently?

I actually tend to skip the opening of the show these days, because I know it'll just be a couple of lazy such jokes; and when Graham or one of the guests inexplicably brings up Trump, Farage or whoever the pantomime villain of the moment is, I have to mute the TV if they linger on the subject for more than a few seconds, because it's just so incredibly tedious and it's not what I'm interested in hearing on a light entertainment chat show.

Except she didn't praise arranged marriages. She had one, and is very happy with her husband, but hated the wedding, and wouldn't arrange one for any of her children. She made a joke about not being bothered with the work, but she's previously said she thinks it's not right. She's now renewing her vows because she wants to make a point of it being their choice. Although I'm fairly sure she'd met her husband and got to agree to it, so it wasn't a forced marriage or anything.

It was Toksvig who made a joke about arranging marriages for her children, because she knows best. But it was a JOKE.

How on earth you interpreted that as her praising arranged marriages is beyond me, unless you had some pre-existing prejudice against her, and leaped to conclusions?


^^^^^ This really. Norton can give the impression of being all fluff, but he's always made biting comments. There is no obligation for British, or even Irish comedians to say nice things about American politicians. Not even when they are on the BBC.

I said nothing about not being allowed. In my world I simply prefer forum members to be honest about the fact that they are spreading their own obvious political agenda. Rather than them only accusing guests with opposing politics to theirs of being too political or "fanatical".
