Yes let's by all means attempt to paper over the emergence of an emboldened far right.

Look I dislike them both but this BS is out of hand.

Trump doesn't have connections with either group, they simply came out in support of him this is the same group who's leader Clinton has met with on several occasions unlike Trump.

Farage is not far right he may try to appeal to certain groups to further his aims but he is a hardcore capitalist and would support any group that furthers those capitalist ends.

How dare we expect to be "lightly entertained" on a Friday night entertainment show...

Why do you seem to think Graham Norton should turn his show into some sort of satire and/or politics show?

As discussed, there's lots of platforms for Norton to give his political opinions on if he wishes - his talk show shouldn't be one of them.

And maybe you should live in 1940s Warsaw then come back and tell us if you still think Nigel Farage is as bad as a Nazi regime that murdered 6 million innocent children, men and women and invaded half of Europe...

Anyway, back to the show. Some decent enough guests tonight. Helen Mirren is always a laugh and I'm interested to hear Freeman talk about the new Sherlock, so I'll be watching.

On to tonight's programme with Will Smith, Helen Mirren, Naomie Harris, Martin Freeman and Katie Melua.

Can we PLEASE stop this big political discussion and get back to discussing the light entertainment programme. As others have mentioned, there are plenty other forums for those types of discussions and the episode in question has aired a few weeks ago. Give it a rest.PLEASE!!!!!!!

It's a CHAT show where I would expect a variety of guests to share a variety of topics. Not just empty trivial fluff all the time. There is space for politics and ideas too.

As you clearly or deliberately missed the EMPHASIS of my original comment, I'll repeat it ...

Nice people made the best Nazis.

Or so I have been told. My mother was born in Munich in 1934, and spent her childhood in Nazi Germany surrounded by nice people who refused to make waves. When things got ugly, the people my mother lived alongside chose not to focus on “politics,” instead busying themselves with happier things. They were lovely, kind people who turned their heads as their neighbors were dragged away.

I thought of my mother’s neighbors right after the election, when apolitical friends of mine breathed a sigh of relief that we could stop talking about politics. “That’s over!” they said happily. “Let’s focus on other things.”

But then a white nationalist was named chief strategist to the president-elect. Aren’t you alarmed? I asked.

“I choose not to discuss politics publicly,” one friend said. And posted a picture of puppies.

I'm sure it comforts you to falsely believe that the extreme far right only exists in the past, far far away.

But of course the REALITY (that's something a bit like reality tv but more real) is that a number of European countries have neo-nazi parties that have gained varying degrees of power and influence TODAY.

I'm currently in Greece where antifa graffiti is predominant and necessary, as the neo-nazi Golden Dawn party not only have a small number of their members elected into parliament. But also their supporters have been known to violently patrol the streets of certain neighbourhoods.

I'm guessing that when the focus of the recent show was a discussion about Muhammad Ali you're too lightly entertained to automatically think about or google his fascinating POLITICS.

Is Will Smith ever going to age?

He looks marginally older than he did 20 years ago but only because he has a moustache.

Git.

All plugging the same film? A film I will never see.

My American accent is better than hers! Oh, It's Dead Like Me, the Movie.

Has Helen not met anyone black before?

Will Smith appears to be specialising in films with very uninspiring titles at the moment.

'Concussion' and now 'Collateral Beauty'.

Evidently he's high up on the Forbe's list of least profitable actors and it's no surprise judging by his movie choices.

Agree, but the clips they showed wouldn't entice me to watch the movie or Sherlock.

Also, I thought Helen Mirren's American accent was weak.

Good show. I like the way Will Smith bonded with Mirren and Harris. Almost came close to liking him after that "making a fuss of bystanders" story

And I love that Katie Melua put him in his place about Georgia

The Graham Norton show has been a down (especially after Grayson Perry) but now after last night - its top of the game

The other three were there to stuff a turkey, Freeman was there to promote Sherlock.

It's Graham's show - he gets to decide what it is.

And don't dare bring the holocaust up. I am the grandson of holocaust survivors and know about it actually. My grandparents both think Farage is very dangerous and in their haunting words, "Nazis didn't happen overnight - they started off on the fringe and slowly became more and more fascist."

The fact Trump wants a registry of Muslims, Farage supports it and wants one here, as well as the foreign workers list is no better than what my grandparents went through in 1930s Germany.

Martin had attended a charity event earlier on and so could only make it part way through the recording.

Deleted. Change of mind as it's not a politics thread.

Great show, I just love Will Smith Always entertaining and funny. Collateral Beauty looks good but it's a film I can wait to rent it.
