The YT popularity of latin over ballroom has got me wondering -without doing any analysis yet- if it's partly because they tend to use modern chart music for latin more often than in ballroom? I remember being mystified last year by the huge YT views GG's jive got despite the dance itself rarely being talked about, and wondered if it was because it was to Meghann Trainor's Dear Future Husband, which has squillions of views.

One of the reasons I started the thread was to investigate whether or not the poll data were borne out by whatever information we can glean about the public vote from the actual results.

I think you are right, the chart music must help enormously to get views. But also I think people like watching the party, happy dances more.

That's true, but I don't think that translates into votes - overall, latin dances are slightly more likely to end up on the Bottom 2 than ballroom dances. I guess you could argue that latin dances have more positive impact if they're very good than ballroom dances do? Certainly if you look at the dances that are generally claimed "won it" for the series champions, most of them are latin.

What I find interesting is that ballroom does better on Facebook (granted it's not a video just a still) than it does on YouTube.

Overall, I think YouTube indicates consistent top popularity, but it's very inaccurate predicting bottom of popularity or surprising lack of it (Simon Webbe, Will Young... who should have been quite popular with that demographic).

Interesting article here on the Yougov polling website that seems to do a public opinion tracker on who people want to win Strictly. They guess that Ed Balls doesn't have much longer to go, but what I found more interesting was the second graph they have on the page showing the most popular dancers among the people Yougov sampled.
The graph goes up to just before last Saturday (so not totally up-to-date and not including the Halloween show) and shows the 4 most popular dancers at the end of week 5 were - in the following order- 1) Ore 2) Louise 3) Judge Rinder 4) Danny

Thank you for that, I do think Ore is popular "out there" so I am not surprised about that. Surprised that Louise and Judge Rinder are more popular then Danny who does need a very good dance soon particularly after last week.

Well he has the perfect dance to do that this weekend and anyway for me his QS was a wow dance.

Just based on the poll info, there is at least the potential that the 2 in this weeks dance off might be from:
Daisy, Laura (both been there before) and possible new entries Greg, Ed and Claudia.

Sadly for him upstaged by Ore's Jive on the same night.

Eh...I remember graphs/polls telling us that Susanna was going to win in 2013 and she didn't; and this is just 1 small example. I don't think you can really gauge how people are voting by using that poll and many others.

Well I would say (just going by YouTube) that Ore had the more popular dance that week.

Edy10, opinions can well change and preferences fluctuate as future weeks go by, and as a tracker poll it should be able to pick up on this. It is a snapshot of how people felt at the end of week 5 about who their favourite dancer in the show was.

Well no. You can't derive voting patterns. Based on that data, Ed would probably have been in the dance off the last two weeks, as his combined viewer vote and judges score would be low. It obviously isn't though. The questions are about winning the series rather than who is currently viewed as enjoyable and worth a vote.

Yes, seems all the Ore haters who keep trying to bash him in the DS forum universe don't reflect the outside world.

That's an interesting perspective. So people polled are factoring in not just their own response (which might well be that Ed is and has been fabulous entertainment) but also their expectation of who will be there at the end based on their experience of how Strictly voting proceeds.

In that case it makes sense that Danny, Louise, Ore will be there because I guess most of us expect them to get very close to the final week. But it looks as though Judge Rinder is the popular outsider... Would his position be the one most open to fluctuation week by week I wonder???
