I personally think it depends on your body type. If a woman is a hourglass or a pear I think they would look better with longer hair, if your upper body is larger, like mine, they look better with bob cut.

I always think that long hair on almost any women over about 30 looks absolutely awful – especially if it is slightly wavy and even more so if it is dyed. A short cut can take 20 years off a woman in her 50s.
![]() We're being aged quicker than ever these days. 30 is still young and there's no reason why someone's hair would suddenly not suit them at 30, when it did at 29. |

I'm sure it would have looked okay in Victorian times but now just looks a bit weird – a bit like 1960s hippies or those women in the Pentecostal Church.

I said 'about', not overnight.

I just don't get what happens to a woman's hair/face when she enters her 30s, to suddenly make long hair look bad.

Why is it weird though? I'm nearly 25, but I have friends in their 30s. None of them look weird with long hair

As long as they still look feminine its ok, some women do the short hair thing and end up looking like a drill seargant from the U.S army and that is really off putting.

As long as the hairs in good condition it can look just as good on an older woman. But there's nothing worse than dry, crinkly, sometimes greying hair left long, very ageing.

Some women can get away with it into their 40s, but few after that. I keep mine shortish, as it is easy to style. |

For instance, there's a woman who works near me who has to be knocking on 60, has long very straight hair all the one length (between shoulder and elbow length) with a very straight fringe, cut straight across. Her hair's in pretty good nick even though it's dyed (and changes shade regularly) BUT she looks hideous. It's one of those situations that from the back you might think she was 30 years younger, then you see her face on....and it's not pretty. |

Naga Munchetty, of course, currently flying the flag for short hair several times per week on the BBC: https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com...c34362ca4c.jpg
I think Julie Stevens of "The Avengers" (the forgotten Avengers girl) was one of (if not *the*) first women on British TV: http://www.myneatstuff.ca/store/img/...rstv/venus.jpg She looks really stunning with her short, and very feminine, hair cut. |

As a gentleman I absolutely love it on any lady. I like to see their full face (as little make-up as possible as well). It reveals everything about a person, highlights the eyes etc, and I want to know the true person. No barriers.
I like the hijab solely for this (not for any other reason). It's also why although my hair is probably longer than most ladies I keep it off my face at all times, even if I want to feel freeer and let my locks sit where they want to. I also love really long (natural) hair on any lady too - I just want to see their face. I completely understand why ladies may be far more than hesitant in any of this. And I'm probably 'unusual'. But, heigh ho, that's me!

For men and women it all depends on the shape of the skull and size of the face.
As someone has already mentioned, there are plenty of women with short hair who just look like drill sergeants and there are even more men who sport the shaved look who definitely shouldn't because they have ugly skulls. Do they never look at themselves from the back and sides? |

I would like to add as another example the BBC Sports Presenter and Commentator Eilidh Barbour, who was on a few Football programmes on Sunday and Monday.
She looks really stunning with her short, and very feminine, hair cut. |

I find as a woman gets old, say mid 40s, it does suit her more to have a shorter style.
Long hair on older women, with a fringe at 55 doesn't look right. |

So basically, the woman should choose the hair she wants, and not what her partner wants.

Tend to agree with this. You sometimes see older women with grayish, long hair, centre-parted, and I tend to think they look a bit like witches....!
