I just watched this again on youtube and it almost seemed like the keyboard player played the wrong notes to the line 'when there is no hope to speak of' which put her off. It sounded completely off tune unless they had planned a variation to the original. Very strange

Unfortunately for her it was not good enough, and forgetting her words put paid to any kind of chance that she had of getting through. They will bring back though, so nothing lost really.

The point I was making was that it seemed like she stopped because what she was singing was out of sync with the keyboard player as opposed to forgetting the lyrics. It just looks unconvincing.

Also, had that been Matt or Samantha then you can bet your bottom dollar that Cowell would have given them more of a second chance i.e. start again or come back later after you've got your stuff together. It was all decided before anyone picked up a microphone.

They only tend to give acts a second chance if it is in the early stages of the show. It wouldn't look great if they did it at this stage.

katie Waissel got through basically without even singing at judges houses so please don't
think caitlyn missing some lyrics played any part

I'm sure the boys who didn't get a seat at the 6CC see it that way after Matt got a second chance and Ryan was brought back without even performing.

They just make up the rules and exceptions as they go along.

I agree and think it was all decided before anyone sang anything.

Absolutely. I think it was all staged and to be reconsidered she had to play her part.

She had been totally professional and completely prepared - much more so than most - up until this point in the show. Are we to believe she suddenly stopped functioning? Someone mentioned in another thread that they did not want to risk another Tamara. Tamara did that for most of her performances.

Also after the "incident" she was word perfect.

Of course they would give her a second chance IF they really wanted her.

And if, as a previous poster says, it doesn't matter because they'll bring her back anyway then all the more reason to believe that it was done merely to create drama as with the "Let''s see the real you behind the make up" and "Oh look how much better you sing when you're not hiding behind make up" drama.

Who cares? It''s all time wasting, drama inducing piffle. Let''s just see the talent.

Just to let you know!!

Caitlin never ever forgot her words!!!

The piano man messed up, and they edited it as if she forgot her words.
She smashed her second song.

I'm becoming more convinced of this having watched it again. She stopped because of the keyboard player. It didn't look at all like she forgot the lyrics

What ever happened it's too late for this year now.

I don't think Caitlyn is best pleased she's not said a word on Twitter since last nights show which is most unusual for her!

She added a link to her second JH song - Victims by Boy George. It's better than anything that was shown last night

OMG....just listened back to this and the piano guy plays it wrong.....why on earth is this not being reported instead of her getting her lyrics wrong...she clearly looks at the guy when he does it.....how she got it back is amazing....people need to get this out there

They made it seem like she forgot the words but this is just a cover story. It was the piano man who screwed up. She was a threat to the chosen one and so they solved the problem before the lives.

From what I have heard she completely nailed her other JH song but they decided to show the piano man gaff instead. The sad thing is that Cowell and the producers get away with stuff like this and most people don't get to know about it.

Niall was also shafted by being forced to sing Two become one.

I wonder just how much musical knowledge that the producers have? Does anyone know who any of them are?

Even if the piano guy messed up, she should have been able to carry on quicker than she did. She completely froze. What if a member of the audience did something to make her lose focus on live tv?

Sorry but that's just utter nonsense.

Even established artists would have stopped singing. She's an eighteen year old in a high pressure situation. Hardly likely to be challenging the piano man in front of the judges.

Professionals would Adlib or something, they wouldn't stop singing all together. As for it being a high pressure situation, the lives will be even worse, she needs to be able to deal with issues calmly.

I thought she was the best singer until JH and was disappointed. But she showed her inexperience in forgetting the words. She should have spent a year performing outside of her bedroom, and become more polished for XF.

LOL the editing has worked a treat on you and wise-up.

Have a look at her first audition and her second JH song on youtube and you'll get polished.

I caught it too, since I listen closely to the arrangements as well as vocals. They did similar with 2 other acts. It is not only not ridiculous, it is a pretty standard "trick".

She was out of her depth with that song, and it still wasn't great, but it did sound like she had "assistance" in wrecking that choo choo.

Part of why it didn't work was that is was a deceptively poor choice for her. That song has depth and needs a skilled connected delivery with a maturity sh eunderstandably doesn't have yet.She is a young singer with a (quite good) edgy pop/possible rock or country crossover voice.

I'll bow to your superior technical knowledge but from a physiological perspective she must have been under a lot of a stress from the moment the piano man messed up - heart racing and feeling real anxiety which inevitably would have an adverse affect on her performance.

Not sure if you've heard her version of Boy George's Victims on YT but I thought it was better than anything I heard over the weekend. Apparently she nailed it at JH but alas they decided to show the screw up.

No need to bow,I am not an XFactor producer, just a former pro/currently semipro vocalist/coach/songwriter who currently is choosing to travel the beautiful coastline and live in peace

I have heard it,and she did a lovely job.

I know she is not the only one they did this too, because they purposely chopped track for someone I have heard perform their JH song flawlessly countless times (I worked with them to perfect the song 6 years ago and they only improved it since...and it is the best modern rendition I have heard, matching Leona's at least when not tampered with)

I think it was a combination of bad editing and, as you said, lack of experience/panicking at the unexpected. Only those who are musicians as well or who know how to improvise well (many good singers do not and do not need to) would not be tripped up at her level of experience and that is no reflection on her obvious talent.
