Be fair, Danny's far better than Peter was or ever could have been.

Peter put in no effort atall, you have to give it to Jay in that he gave it everything.

Probably true. I always hoped a bit of Peter's showmanship would rub off on Jay to silence the naysayers and Craig. Well, you can't have everything in life, can you.

To be fair, I enjoyed Danny's routines, well most of it, but I don't really need to hear him talk or be entertained by him. He gives me slight Peter vibes.

I think he's better, too, he might be even more consistent. Jay was a hit or miss. But despite all that Jay might still be better remembered for that jive, because it was such an electrifying performance. It's when the scene, music, costumes, choreography, and dancers came all together and created magic. Danny did not even come near to it yet.

Early days, it is only week 2.

I said it yesterday, Danny would kill Jay in a dancing instant.

Yes, they did indeed dance very well, but the rest highlighted in bold were pretty much provided on a plate by the best that Hollywood has to offer don't you think?

Perhaps if TPTB sanction a faithful recreation for Danny & Oti of, let's say, Rogers & Astaire dancing to Night & Day from The Gay Divorcee it would be easier to make a comparison. Level playing field and all that.

I'm no particular fan of Danny's, but from what we've seen so far, he's an infinitely better dancer than Jay - in my very humble and totally uneducated opinion.

Just to level things out, I did notice Danny was wearing Latin shoes for Ballroom, so he is having to dance above his height.

Oti's a big lass - she's all legs.

They're both amazing for people who don't do it as their day job.

Danny looks to be coming in slicker and more of a finished package. Can't really see him messing up a dance or putting his foot in his mouth on ITT! Also seems hard-working and perfectly pleasant. We need more time to warm to him.

Jay was always good and had moments of brilliance when it all came together, but didn't have a slick or polished style. Very endearing though and always good value with a lot of quirky charm in all the little extra bits - VTs, ITT etc. Think he won as much for the extras as for what he did on the dance floor. Danny could perhaps lose for exact opposite reason despite being clearly fab dancer. As I said, though, early days.

I watch Danny's dances and I like them but he doesn't make me feel like Jay did. It came more from the heart with Jay and in any case, he just had IT as far as I was concerned. More IT than anyone else has had so far. On the dance floor, off the dance floor.
Danny is like Natalie Gumede. Very accomplished, I enjoy their performances ... but I don't feel anything and I'm not moved.
I love Oti though and would be thrilled for her if she won.
I'd have to agree with you daziechain. Its always that elusive 'it' factor that determines the winner and its impossible to quantify. Danny is really good and i'm loving his dances but i haven't felt him yet, who knows if i ever will. For me i doubt he will ever compare to Jay

Tbh i'm getting much more from watching Judge Rinder and Ed than i am Danny and i've no idea why that should be seeing as on paper Danny should be ticking all my boxes.

I think Danny is better, I loved Danny Mac when he was on Hollyoaks, and every year he won Sexiest male in the soap awards so he has a lot of fans. Hopefully the voting for Strictly is based on dancing and not looks though LOL

Danny seems to me to be dancing at the highest level I have seen from a male dancer at the start of a Series.

My sister thought Oti was the celebrity.

Yes, Danny is better, but I think Jay's appeal was that he didn't realise how good he was. Danny knows he's really good, and I find that slightly off putting. Definitely reminds me of Ricky Whittle and Scott Maslen, smug. I didn't like either of them either.

Dannys week one dance was amazing. I could not tell who was the Pro between him and Oti.

They're completely different dancers so I have no idea why anyone would compare them with each other.

Jay studied contemporary dance for about a year, but Danny is an Arts Ed student and he will have studied tap and stage dancing as a matter of course. Arts Ed produce very good dancers so I'd expect him to be able to dance well.

Who cares about comparisons? It's 2016 and a new show with different people.

Why hark back to the past? Or are you really atually wanting to start yet another, 'Jay was no good' thread? It's been done to death already.
What she said ^^

Personally, his looks do nothing for me. Nor his personality, I find him quite vanilla but on a dancing level, yes, I think he is better than Jay. Very happy to see more of Oti and glad she got an able partner.

I may have said one or two times here () that I was no fan of Jay's (nor Aliona's) so refused to join the 'cult following' he somehow built up last year. However, while others were highly dismissive of Danny (mainly because they didn't have a clue who he was), I was made up when I heard he was doing Strictly.

Right from then, I had a great feeling about him and really thought he could be a contender. Then he was paired with my joint favourite female pro Oti and I thought this is just to good to be true. And to put the tin hat on it, they have turned out 2/2 fantastic routines and are joint top of the leaderboard. He looks 'quite' yummy too!!!

And going back to the OP, yes, he is a better dancer than Jay. As for the slower routines, I think Danny will be equally as competent.

So, in a complete reversal of the Jay/ Aliona situ last year, I cannot get enough of 'Team Doti' this year. Finalists for sure, I will be cheering them all the way over the finishing line!

jiroos, so you must know how the Jay fans (including me) felt about the Jay/Aliona partnership. Same thing, different people!

By the way, I had no idea who Danny was and had to look him up on Imdb! I am pleased he is dancing on Strictly.
