That's exactly the point I've been making on another thread. I watch SCD for light entertainment and do not get off on mawkish sympathy. I simply couldn't have borne to have watched a woman dance, knowing that she could rupture her surgical stars.

The BBC should never have allowed the audience to be put in this position.

If she still wanted to continue it will have been a BBC decision, "they're only thinking what's best for the show."

Why on earth should she have? It's not her fault she got injured!

The rules are and always have been that if you are injured you get a bye through to the next week so that you have a chance to recover, so I don't think anyone can or should blame her in the slightest!

Yes she should have taken a bye on Saturday night and not danced at all. Then we could have still had a legitimate dance off with whoever ended up in the bottom two.

You are right but in DWTS, the big stars never go out early. You could see by her face that she was totally gobsmacked to be in the dance off, although I think Brendan had sussed it. She didn't ask for a bye because she thought she would go through.

Perhaps the producers didn't expect Anastacia to end up in the bottom 2. They can't fix the televote so the problem is clearly serious.

I'm not surprised that people are getting all hot and bothered about this situation. No doubt if Anastacia is advised to rest then how will she fare with rehearsals for the next dance?

Yes, it's a TV competition that relies on public votes. But it's also putting the health and wellbeing of the contestants at the forefront. If people can't handle that then they shouldn't watch SCD.

Honestly, wow poor audience, they've obviously been through what Anastasia has been through, had her body mutilated, because a disease was killing her, but yeah tell her to give up and not show what a woman fighter can do, just because it mades the audience think! ! put in that position? that is a ludicrous statement

However her injury is in a position and of a type that she could very easily reopen it even doing ballroom let alone latin. She would know this having lived with this injury, she knows her limits surly. If she now retires due to the injury, which a lot of people expect, Melvin had been booted out for no reason. If she had bowed out now, gracefully and with the full support of everyone she could have healed without worry. Its not a bad thing to want her to get better quickly rather than keep training/dancing and hurting herself worse.

Actually, I find it comforting that the UK audience is so un-starstruck and voted on what they saw. Now the whole thing is immensely complicated by the sympathy vote.

How would that have been any more fair on all the other contestants - one less possibility of them escaping the dance-off! What has happened this week in terms of principle is in no way different to any other injury bye we've had in the past!

And frankly good on her for being determined not to take a bye - she clearly thought she could try to get through it - I remember Jade Johnson was similarly determined until it was clear she couldn't actually put weight on her leg. It's not Anastacia's fault she didn't realise how bad it was before she danced!

How is it traumatic seeing a woman with a previous injury dance? Some people are older, some fattter, some unhealthier. They are all entitled to be there.

I guess there a load of people here who weee traumatised by the Paralympics. All those disabled people risking injury!

When the woman herself is tearful and says how scared she is about hurting herself dancing, yes its not pleasant to watch.

It's not traumatising, but it's not pleasant watching a woman clearly in pain and barely able to move. It's not about her being injured, it's about the injury causing her so much distress and discomfort.

I wonder what the decision would have been if a much better dancer had not won the public vote and was bottom two with Anastacia and with less public votes. Would the producers have been willing to sacrifice them in order to retain Anastacia?

it's a tough one. It wasn't very fair on Mel, but it was not Anastasia's fault either. As long as Anastasia did not know the outcome of the public vote then she was still taking a chance at going by not doing the dance off.

Maybe because they fear she might rupture more scars by carrying on?
