You mean if the dad said, tomorrow he was going to canvass the neighbourhood to find everyone named Bill, then carve that number on a tree for his daughter to find in 2017, couldn't the daughter just go the tree today, find the number and tell him ?! <- is this what is bugging you ?
If so then (imho) that's not how tv time travel works.
Have you seen the film Looper ? Well that bit where a guy is slowly being chopped up and in the future we see him slowly losing his bits. Viewers were going WTF, he's now got no feet so how could he have even walked to that place with no feet all these years. If you can accept that the film got it right, that this
is how time travel works, how doing something to something in the past will affect that thing in the future. If you take it as right then I feel this show will make sense.
(or at least I think it will, I gave up on it last week cos I didn't care about any of them
