Where do you get the figure of 30,000 never being seen again, please?
I can't recall to be honest. I think I read it in a true crime book. Might have been related to Denis Nilsen. Either way it stuck in my head. It's not an incredible number in a population of 60m.

Another stat I have in my head is that at any one time there are around 1000 unidentified bodies in mortuaries.

The 200,000 figure is in line with other reports I've seen, but remember that the vast majority of that is teenagers who go missing for a few hours and are back home by the next day. Almost all of the 200,000 are found within a week. About 2% will be missing for more than a week, so the 30,000 figure you are remembering must be for something else.

The 1,000 unidentified bodies figure is one I've heard before and seems to be correct.

I think the 'never seen again' figure is more like 3000. Maybe that's where he got confused.

Globally, the stats are far more scary.

Of course, they haven't all necessarily met some grisly fate. Most I would guess have just disappeared abroad, or gone into hiding for some reason.

Over 5 weeks now for this poor family to suffer. Unfortunately, I can't imagine many return after that period of time.

The family have now put out a statement saying they are unhappy with the police investigation. Also saying they feel Corrie was taken away in a vehicle & they are not ruling out abduction/terrorist activity or a connection to other recent events in the area.

This sadly might be one of those ones that never gets solved. I highly doubt at this stage he was bundled into the back of a truck a kidnapped. The kidnappers then stay silent? Doesn't make sense.

I understand they are at their wits end, but what more do they expect the police to do without evidence?
As for the terrorist activity I think if any terrorist had taken him it would have been all over the internet before he'd even been reported missing. Plus how would a terrorist have known he was a serviceman? Not to forget the other terrorist activity hasn't been proven yet, and the majority of the personnel at Marham think it's untrue.
The local volunteer group who do search and rescue have been out all day every day searching. Their family and work lives have been put on hold. It is a huge area, woods, ditches, rivers, ponds, ground around the sugar factory so unstable it's basically quicksand that if he's somehow got in there, well...

I live local to Marham and I have not heard anyone say they think the story there is made up. Still early days though I suppose.

I agree that if this guy had been kidnapped they would have said something by know. Especially with all the attacks in Mousl at the moment. From bitter experiance I think he has wandered off somewhere and sadly died from exposure. This happened to my Brother In Law, young lad out drinking walked home got lost fell alseep in a field about two miles in the opposite direction from his home. Never woke up again sadly.

Lets hope his family will eventually have a satisfactory outcome or at least a positive result. Otherwise bringing back memories of the 'Suzi Lamplugh' case.

I agree that the kidnapping seems unlikely with over 5 weeks now gone. However the wandering off also seems unlikely as he was suddenly lost from all CCTV cameras.

I know plenty of people who have lost their mobiles on a drunken night out.

If he did actually try to walk back to base in his drunken state and got into difficulty somewhere out in the countryside, banged his head when stumbling into a waterlogged ditch for example, then I'm afraid this story will most likely not have an happy ending.

I sincerely hope he's found alive, but sadly I don't think that's going to happen.
Happened to a young lad round my way a few years ago. Out on NYE (IIRC) at a party, decided to walk home but went across a marsh (thames estuary), fell in a ditch and drowned. Took a little while to find him.

Similarly in 2000 one of my mates was out, refused entry to a bar cos he had trainers on and decided to find another way in. Climbed up somewhere and fell into an air shaft between 2 buildings, maintenance workers found him a few months later.

I reckon someone just found Corrie's phone and took it...

Just going on what my son has remarked on as he was based there. Possibly just 'banter' but they hear more on base than outside it I guess.

"This is about finding him - this is not Corrie"

Why being Coronation street into it?

Still no news today, despite 5000 hours of searching and still no further forward.
So very sad for the family, I really hope there is a breakthough in this case soon.

Disgraceful post in a thread about the life of a young man.

Maybe he just wanted to disappear.
It happens from time to time. People just want a whole fresh start.

It's not quite that easy though is it? You need money to live and the police will be checking for any bank activity.

I remember similar in Newcastle, guy goes missing and is found in a very random place.

http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/news/...castle-1352661

Nothing sinister just drunk guy going somewhere stupid. If this was terrorist related, he'd be back in one way or another by now.

I understand that this could be a similar case of a drunk guy ending up in trouble but some of the evidence in this case leads me away from that theory.

I fear similar has happened to him, walking in darkness , pissed as a fart, takes a short cut, gets lost, falls down abandoned mine shaft .

[ sounds like the standard plot of a skippy episode, apart from the pissed bit ]

No abandoned mineshafts round that part of Suffolk as far as I know.

You don't usually disappear in a drunken state after a night out though!! You plan it for a better time than that.
