I was a little disappointed with the season final but that is mainly because I wanted more from it, but I know they are planning of doing more as the show progresses.

In terms of the show's production, acting and filmography etc, it is 1st class and should be used as a template for future shows.

I'm hoping they explore the idea of sentience more in the next few seasons, and don't dumb down or turn it into an action show, that just does what we've seen before.

I'm also hoping that I live long enough to see it to the end, or that they have TV in heaven/hell.

Newcomers view hosts as inanimate objects. They are there to abused and slaughters, just as a football is there to be kicked.

As soon as the hosts gain concinnous they go on a killing rampage.

It's now difficult to have any empathy with the hosts.

Westworld does The Terminator.

Just found out that there is an end of credits bit. Got me wondering if, like Banshee, there is one after EVERY ep and I've missed them all...doh!!

Are we watching the same show? Granted it can be hard to follow the subtleties (I have often read up/watched Youtube summaries that recapped developments in case I missed anything obvious) but you're taking it to extremes for the sake of making a very simple point when there's so much more to the show than killing.

That was just so damned cool and awesome!

Despite being totally engrossed there's so much to absorb and digest. Might take a few days to think over it all. I really liked Maeve's line to Justin in the elevator, "You're a terrible human, and I mean that as a compliment." When she took the gun from her bag I believe she intended to kill Justin (tidy up loose ends), but his good natured intentions changed her mind.

Also, anyone notice the retro synth soundtrack as Maeve and her gang were escaping? Very cool. Those scenes reminded of a movie called Bladerunner as the group echoed the rogue replicant (artifical humans) group in that.

Such a shame that we lost Hopkins, he was a huge asset to the show. To be honest I don't believe he'll be back.

The intricacies of the feudal Japanese honor system would make for a fascinating setting. Doubt American audiences would accept it though.

Well, I enjoyed it but didn't fully understand it.

Was Delores on a pre-programmed path set by Ford. If not, how did he know she would end up on the beach with Teddy?
If she was on his path, how did Ford factor in William? Without William, Delores wouldn't have been stabbed and then wouldn't have been able to deliver her dying soliloquy in front of the audience.

And speaking of the audience, wasn't that a bit like coming in to the cinema for the medal ceremony in Star Wars? They missed the whole story and just got the end.

Oh, and what was the pervy tech guy doing with the evil cowboy? It wasn't what I thought he was going to do.

I think it's implied that Ford is 'controlling' everyone, even the MiB to a certain extent.

The big ceremony was mainly to announce the new narrative (and Fords retirement) not to go through the whole thing which would take far too long.

I think the pervy tech guy was merely 'fluffing' before he got down to business.

There are loads of plot holes but I still really enjoyed this series, between this and Stranger Things for my favourite of the year.

For those asking earlier about Ed Harris, he was on British TV at the weekend talking about something else but confirmed he will be in series 2.

In The Terminator, Skynet's first task after becoming self-aware is to destroy its creator(s). Kill humans.

In Westworld, Dolores' first task after becoming self-aware is to destroy one of her creators and any other human in sight.

Just to clarify, this is set in the future, right? The photo of William's wife (to be) shows her in NYC or something? Said city looked an awful lot like it does today, and now William is 60+, so the photo of his wife is presumably around 2000 - 2016?


I don't know about Logan (though I presume he's still alive) but Elsie and Stubbs are likely still alive; we've not yet seen their deaths, even though it was implied that Elsie was about to be killed.


I doubt the second season will be just another park. I doubt they're going to go through this entire route again. The second season may very well show other parks (I'm hoping for Jurassic Park myself) but I doubt it'll focus on/in them.


That would be something, though I think somewhat anticlimactic? I'm pretty sure he's a goner though; no doubt Hopkins is an expensive guy to cast, his absence will ease up the shows production budget.


It's interesting, isn't it? How much of their choices are determined by their programming? If they're choosing for themselves, then yeah, they're conscious, but if they're making decisions based on their coding, is it really them being conscious, or them being controlled?


William will survive. He was only shot in the arm (much to his pleasure it seemed). If they were going to have him die, they'd have shown someone put a bullet through his head.


I didn't see that, wasn't aware there was going to be anything after the credits. Needless to say, it's probably just to let us, the viewers, know that she's still alive (and likely will seek her freedom too). She seems to be a little psychotic.

My take on the finale is that Ford was controlling Maeve via the programme Bernard showed her she was following. Up until she chose to leave the train and go seek her 'daughter', so off script and fully sentient.

Maeve changed the other hosts (apart from Delores) to be able to kill by altering their aggression and other settings. On instruction from Ford, as per his 'Journey Into Night' narrative the board and guests had gathered for.

Delores killed Ford but for all we know that may have been a host so Delores was still operating within her normal limits, so the big change for her is understanding her past memories so she is now clear of them and her continuous loop that involved William and Teddy. Her seeming to kill humans (and possibly even Ford himself) and not only hosts at the dinner party may be just Ford's 'Wyatt' programming, giving her the same override that Maeve gave the other hosts.

William finally got the unrestrained theme park he desired, hence the big grin when a host shot him in the arm. Undoubtedly he will survive and lap up this new game Ford has given him.

So I expect season 2 will continue the self awareness theme with Maeve and Dolores as they question the ethics of being held in a theme park and how they are treated and treat the humans, but at least they can defend themselves on an equal footing against the human visitors if Ford hasn't programmed for that to be rolled back. I suppose some humans would prefer the theme park to be unrestricted like William was craving, as long as the hosts stay confined to the park.

Not sure why the samurais were described as "it's complicated". Smacks of 'Lost' and the "it's too complicated for you to understand" to avoid the simple answers. Typically trying to be too clever which some will find underwhelming when the story fails to live up to imagined expectations. Still, they've got plenty of time to write a decent season 2 ready for 2018.

That's one of the easiest things to explain, Maeve and the other hosts have never seen a Samurai before or why they exist which would require a knowledge of Japanese history......which is rather complicated.

My own take on Dolores killing Ford is that Ford was controlling her (just as Arnold had previously) - he shows her the gun (and outfit) that she used to kill Arnold and asks her if she understands who she will need to become if she ever wants to leave this place (Wyatt).

Of course she changes into her Wyatt get-up and uses the gun to kill Ford and the Delos board - so this was all planned out by Ford and not free will/sentience...

Evan Rachel Wood has been absolutely brilliant as Dolores - she plays her with such an innocence that you really couldn't help but fall in love with the character and her speech once MIB is revealed as William is right up there with anything I have heard on TV and well worth a repeat viewing.

I've just watched the ending of episode ten again. We see Dolores kill only Ford and shoot one of the guests in the back. Perhaps both were hosts? Perhaps Dolores hasn't really gained consciousness and was following her programming? Moments earlier we saw her playing a scene from the new storyline with Teddy.

Other that this, the hosts have only killed humans while following their programming. Or have they?

We learn from the tablet that Bernard hands to Maeve that her programming was to: deceive, coerce, recruit, manipulate, mainland and infiltrate. Therefore, she was following programming right up until she left her bag and got off the train.

Hector and Armistice appeared to be following their programming. And, perhaps, they were only killing hosts.

Perhaps Maeve is the only host who has really gained continuous.

I have wonder how they are going to explain killing off Delos' board. I'm sure someone in the outside world would notice. Sending out host copies in to the real world would simply be a progression from Westworld to Futureworld.

We've not been told who the host was that Ford was secretly making in the basement of the remote cottage. I'm guessing it could've been a Ford host?
A good ending to the series, just as well as its going to be a long wait for the next!

In their recent interview (can't link on mobile but its on IGN), IGN directly asked the show creators if Ford was dead, to which the response was (paraphrasing) "That was a real sacrifice by a real Ford"

It struck me as odd because they specifically said A real Ford and not THE real Ford. I'm taking that as "Anthony Hopkins will be back"

This heavily implies that there is more than one Ford (thus he has hosts of himself). That, or Ford has always been a host himself, and upon his death, will merely have uploaded his consciousness into another host.

I'd be surprised if Hopkins returns for a second season. Although, I wouldn't have expected Harris to come back either, but it seems he is doing.

Well it was definitely implied that she did. Actually more than implied. She found the centre of the maze. She started hearing her own voice. That was a key moment not just in the episode but the pivotal moment for her character. I disagree with Crofter I believe her decision to kill was her own. Ford surmised this would be the logical outcome for Dolores once she solved the maze. He didn't set the "Wyatt storyline" in motion simply by programming her. He was preparing her. I really like the scene with Michelangelo's Creation of Adam fresco from the Sistine Chapel. Where Dolores twigged that a metaphor was often just a euphemism for a lie.

There is a huge difference between Ford and Arnold. But it's not the one the audience had necessarily been expecting. Ford has nothing but contempt for humanity. Arnold believed that humans and the new AI could cooperate, co-exist, and build a future. When he discovered this wasn't so his life's work seemed for naught and so he opted for suicide by host. He never stopped believing that they could achieve sentience just realised that humans would never accept them as equals or not see them as a threat. Arnold's death was Ford's "trauma." He blames humanity. His remarks throughout the season display this contempt well. In a lot of ways Maeve's defiance of her directive to escape is Arnold's doing. Whereas Dolores is a manifestation of Ford's nihilistic view that the hosts can only become the future by eradicating the human race. I do not necessarily see Dolores and Maeve as allies next season, at least not for long. In fact they could lead two different factions of the hosts. Maeve may see some humans as useful, slaves in a Planet of the Apes type scenario, and just maybe even have some hidden compassion for these inferiors. However, I think Dolores, after everything she's been through as the oldest host, the repeated traumas, and Ford's narrative plans; will simply want to wipe out humanity.

As for Ford, I think Sir Anthony may be back but probably in flashbacks. There is so much that we didn't get to see since this season really kept his true intentions cloaked. But a lot of work went into Ford's plans and we didn't get to see most of it. Nolan said that was the real Ford taking the bullet. So if the host being made was a Ford clone then that will be the Ford we see in the "current timeline" next season rather than the actual Ford, who I believe was killed by Dolores.

Watching the scene of Dolores and Teddy riding along the beach I was thinking are they really going to mess with our heads and have them see a broken Statue of Liberty
