Well that's all part of the fun really isn't it? It's less passive than most tv and more socially interactive.

Episode was quite dense in many ways, making it harder to process quickly. My brief thoughts...

Teresa is spying on Ford for Delos? But if so, would she really need to go to such extremes?

The use of the retro logo in the basement seems to add weight to the dual timeline theory. Which strenghtens the case for Will being the MiB. So, Dolore's progress was all for nothing? Maybe she really is Arnold's enforcer.

Yeah the 2nd version of the Logo on the old computer system pretty much confirms the TTP theory for me.

I might also be changing my mind about the MiB being William as the First Generation Hosts look (on the outside) just as human as the newer hosts so all the Hosts in the William/Logan scenes could easily be First Generation.

I think William might get a bit of a shock if Dolores ever opens her head like young Robert (who I thought was a young Ford when we first met him) did

One thing I thought a little odd was that they are still using the female Host that greeted William as the face of the Park after 30 years. Still if it's good enough for McDonalds

Plus of course she may just have been a greeter back then and not used in advertising.

Yeah you're right, the show wants us to speculate and you'd have to be a stick in the mud not to go along with it.

We're definitely being led to believe there's more than one timeline. There are too many little details, - more in every episode - to discount it. I can't quite buy the William = MiB theory yet though, purely because I can't see how the character of William would turn into the character of MiB, particularly in regard to how we've seen both of them interact with Dolores.

Bernard asked "Arnold?" when he saw Ford's reploca Father - but also later on, when Elsie was disturbed by the noise as she worked on the 'Bicameral relay'*, her reaction was also to ask aloud "Arnold?" - they both seemed to expect his appearance as a possibllity....

*She had uncovered evidence of 'Arnold' using the system, but presumably also knew he was dead (given her surprise and quizzical tone when relaying this to Bernard) - the idea of someone 'persisting" in another form doesn't appear to be off the table going by their reactions..

Seeing very human first generation hosts definitely adds weight to theory with all the logo malarkey. I think if its true, then clearly Logan will turn out to be the Man in Black, he even dresses similarly. William is too different to reconcile it imo.

The conversations with Dolores in the 'present' though is what makes it very hard for to go along 100%. But I guess if Bernard is a host, he wouldn't age, so his conversations with Dolores could easily be happening in the past I guess? I'm sure he was the one who told her about the maze too? Could possibility Bernard be Arnold's crowning glory, a fully sentient AI? But then who is his ex-wife on the phone? All part of an elaborate story? So many questions it makes my head hurt trying to make sense of them and that's precisely why I love it

I think the fun of watching this show is because of all the intrigue and speculation. Also, I'm wondering as well if it is Logan who's the MIB. The way he treats Dolores makes more sense that way and William might have been killed trying to protect her.

That's my theory - the way I see it we are building towards William falling in love with Dolores and taking a bullet from Logan trying to protect her ...

The figure that grabbed her at the end was dressed in black with a black hat. I hope they've somehow managed to CGI the original Yul Brynner gunslinger in for a brief role.

All I can say after tonight is wow. That final scene was wonderfully portrayed but also beautifully haunting. Hopkins went full Hannibal Lecter and it was absolutely amazing to watch. He deserves all the awards.

So Bernard is a host. Teresa is dead and Ford is seemingly in the process of constructing Host Teresa? Also note how back in Episode 1, Bernard was commenting on Teresa's expressions and mannerisms. That means that Ford had been using Bernard to map out Teresa so he could kill her and turn her into a host,,, all from the very first episode. That is just incredible.

Plus when Bernard was given the picture of Ford and "Arnold", we now know that that was actually a picture of Ford and Ford's father's host. But, conspicuously, there's a massive space where a 3rd person should be standing to the right of the picture when Bernard is looking at it, which obviously Bernard wouldn't be able to see because he's not programmed to ("It doesn't look like anything to me"). Could this lend credence to Bernard being a host version of Arnold? Who Ford killed and replaced with a host just like he did with Teresa?

Plus this now brings up two important possibilities with regards to Dolores:

- If we take the Bernard x Dolores scenes at face value, that can only mean now that Ford has programmed Bernard to encourage Dolores to find the maze, which means Ford himself wants Dolores to break out of her loop and gain consciousness for whatever reason.

- Alternatively, if it's not Bernard x Dolores, but rather, Arnold x Dolores, then this means that William/Logan/Dolores scenes are at a different point in time to the rest of the show, which further increases the chances that William is, in fact, the Man in Black.

Yes, Ford is constructing replicas of actual people, I'm certain (Invasion of the bodysnatchers nod) that was Teresa's 'replica' self being constructed as she was killed*.
I'm also pretty certain that Bernard is Arnold's replica - "You weren't here then, were you Bernard?"
Moreover, one of the blueprints (along with Bernard's) was Dolores - I think Dolores must likewise be a replica of someone from Ford's past. Remember when she asked Ford if they were very old friends? He looked down and said (IIRC) "Not friends. I wouldn't say that at all.."
I think she was his wife, or the object of his (spurned) desires.
Maybe when he can convince himself of host sentience, he plans to join them..
If he hasn't already....

Anyone could be a host now - and noone would know - ""Our Tech is a host, coded to be read as a human" as was said during the bogus 'rogue' host demo.

Many references to the 'boards' hidden motive for host research peppered throughout. Maaybe Ford is ahead of that curve.


* At least we'll have an excuse for her slightly robotic acting from now on

I said from the start that I thought Bernard might be a host.

This show is great, one of the best explorations of AI and the philosophical questions of what it is like to be human, I've seen for ages.

It just shows how far TV story telling and FX has come since the original Beyond Westworld was made.

I've also just seen an interview with Jeffrey Wright (Bernard), where he explains that they have 5 entire seasons of Westworld already planned at this point in time, and that Series 1 is essentially "A prequel to what the show is really about", which is mindblowing, because if this is just a pre-amble season, then imagine what the coming seasons will be like.

I've been saying that there simply isnt enough story to last 5 years. I'm hoping that the park itself doesnt feature much for the other 4 seasons (hopefully we get renewal confirmation soon)

Problems he's got is that people won't be watching after series 2.

What a brilliant episode that was and absolutely mind-bending that the over confident Theresa was in fact the blood sacrifice and not Bernard as she thought.

Delos seem to be in on it all so you must imagine that their end goal is to replace some very important people in the real world with hosts to be their puppets ... and this park has simply been a test to see if the tech would really work when ready.

This could mean that future series take place in the real world which would fit in with the 5 series plan I guess.

I keep saying it but this show is an absolute tour de force. I want all five seasons made so I binge on it immediately.

Anthony Hopkins is just out of this world. He should sweep all the awards going. Absolutely chilling performance in total Hannibal Lector mode. One of the best there has been no doubt.

As for the plot, I do think TTP now has pretty much everything it needs to fall into place. Bernard could clearly be in two time periods now and its clear Ford is manipulating her for some purpose. But if he'd already achieved sentience with Bernard I'm not sure to what end. It's obviously something to do with Logan and William's company (which is looking likely to be Delos) so maybe by making William believe they can be truly sentient, it gets the investment they need. (They are on the brink on bankruptcy here)

The Man in Black I think is either Logan (which makes more sense, especially after William's adventure's with Delores) or a host version of him. Imagine him operating in the real world and the park as the same person, Ford has complete control over the board and can bend it to his will.

A lot of stuff has kinda fallen into place following this episode and I love it!

Westworld has been renewed for season 2 ...

A couple more on the tally chart for the timelines and the Bernard = host in the likeness of Arnold theories with the confirmation that hosts can't see certain things (such as possibly another person in the photograph of Ford and his father that Bernard saw), and apparently the room at the end is the same one "Bernard" was talking to Dolores in.

The park is a very exclusive place - the majority of the guests will be wealthy and many well connected..

Bernard telling her she should get back before being missed makes more sense in this case. His chats were part of Ford's 'personal project'.

The presence of Ford's 'replicator' probably also explains the 5th unregistered guest detected by Bernard - though you'd have thought he could make them without any detectable emissions, so Ford is still under suspicion himself!

Yes it does raise the question of whether the new Delos rep is a host or indeed if the whole board is made up of host replacements created and controlled by Ford. Certainly it looks like Theresa has just become the newest member of that club.

So i'm guessing it was Bernard under orders from Ford who grabbed Elsie last episode and then was told to forget about it.

I wonder if she has been killed as well, probably.


I was getting a feeling things were a bit dodgy with regards to Bernard when he wasn't all that worried about Elsie's whereabouts, curious but not worried.
