Sadly I think you're right, in the same interview I read with Jeffrey Wright, he mentioned how he was totally caught off guard by the fact that Teresa's actress has been holding it very close to her chest that she'd only been signed up for 7 episodes.

A shame really, Ford making Host Teresa to infiltrate the board and keep tabs on what they're doing would have been a dark but intriguing little subplot.

It will be a shame if it's just a rehash of Future World.

Dolores is seen digging at what appears to be her own grave in one of the episodes.

I think if Elsie had been killed, then she would have been done so on screen imo. There's more to come from that plotline I think- Whoever grabbed her could be a revelation or insurgent faction.

That would depend though if they wanted to give Teresa's death more impact.

If we had seen Bernard kill Elsie then Teresa's death wouldn't have been such a surprise.

Also now when we see Elsie we won't know if she has been turned into a host.

Well, that was a cracking episode, but I remain confused by some aspects. Unless mistaken, didn't Ford have chat with Bernard about not wanting conscious synths? What was the point of that conversation if Ford created Bernard in the first place?

Also, two synths of interest here; Dolores and Maeve. Dolores is seemingly on a new path, yet still (doesn't seem) aware that she's not real. Shouldn't the rest of the park management notice that Dolores is out of character? Maeve on the other hand is (for the most part) staying in character, though is aware of who/what she is.


I'm not entirely sure how I'd feel about that. If the show suddenly jumps to the real world, then it'll just become a conspiracy show about who's who, who's real, and what motives are, whereas (for the moment at least) it's gripping and more of an adventure.




I don't think Elsie is dead. I think, as mentioned, if she'd been killed off, we'd have seen it; we may not have seen the killer, but we'd have seen her death (so we'd be none the wiser that it could/would have been Barnard). I suspect there's other parties in the park who have their own agendas, and that Elsie has merely been kidnapped.


The reason?

Ford often descends to the lower levels to have chats with Old Bill and secretly maintains a replica of his family in the park. Perhaps he's lonely; perhaps he prefers the company of hosts. It's been made clear to us that Ford is like a God within the park and that hosts dismiss anything they can't understand.


They did. There was a scene in the control room where it was mentioned a host (presumably Delores) had gone for a wander, followed by an attempt by another host to return her to her home ranch.

If you follow the multiple timeline theory these two scenes may be on different timelines, however we should remember that Delores has been a host for thirty years, perhaps in the same loop all that time. She's done everything hundreds of times.

Takes longer to make than normal shows.

I definitely prefer the quality over the quantity, but that is a long time to wait.

I'm convinced there are two timelines, as the interaction between The Man in Black and Lawrence (unless I'm mistaken) implied such when they met again. I do wonder if a host recalls a visitor from before. If William or Logan are the Man in Black, then they've obviously met Lawrence before, some years after. Does Lawrence recall said interaction?


Also, speaking of Ford, he must have gone to great lengths to program Bernard, seeing as Bernard is frequently looking at the code for other hosts, changing and updating them.

Bernard being a 'host' wasn't too much of a shock, it's been signposted his relationship with Ford was different since the start, with Ford seemingly saying things to Bernard we were not sure he believed, also Ford dropping mentions of his son whenever he needs Bernard to acquiesce was alarmingly manipulative assuming Bernard was a human. He also never acknowledged the door Teresa pointed out.

I do wonder who was being built in Ford's lab, the notion of hosts unknowingly replacing real people is firmly on the table now, and Ford has gone from in my eyes an eccentric genius to *incredibly * dangerous.

Bernard's behaviour suggests Ford was the one who killed/kidnapped Elsie. It may not have been Bernard who did the deed but it probably was.


Bernard has obviously been programmed to forget that the last time he seemingly heard from Elsie was when she was investigating the old theatre and the only person who can do that is Ford.

So while it's vaguely possible someone else grabbed Elsie, Ford is at least covering it up as Bernard if left in character and with his memories intact would be doing a lot more to search for her.

Congrats to those who spotted Bernard being a host way back, I only clicked on when he couldn't see the door.
I thought the host being made in the basement rather small - a child. But, on reflection, could it be a host Elsie?

Must say I've only really warmed to this over the last two episodes - hope the rest is as good and they can do a decent story arc over the whole thing.

It could be the beginning of 2018 though.

I dismissed the idea of Bernard being a host purely because of his conversation with his wife. I mean, it just seemed overly elaborate to get someone to play his imaginary wife when Ford could have just planted the idea that he'd recently talked to his wife in Bernards head anyways. My jaw dropped when Bernard said, "What door?"

Knudsen and Hopkins were excellent in that final scene. Hopkins was just wonderfully creepy and scary in the coldest and most intellectual of ways.

About the violence. I found it unsettling. Not suggesting any kind of censorship, it is a show intended for adults after all. Just, I dunno. I guess I should be more worried if I didn't find it affecting?

Maybe Ford didn't have someone to play Bernard's wife. Maybe that phone call was all a hoax; a hallucination from Bernard's perception. He may have just as easily been on the phone, talking to himself/nobody.

I'm finding the violence a bit gory, but I suppose it is a horror show! and the sheer quantity of nudity is surprising. Although it is a great way to desensitive yourself, and see it as completely normal!

I was surprised that Bernard was a host, of a kind, he obviously is very different from the ones in the park, as he can operate on and reprogramme the other robots, and kill at will. I suppose he had to be seen in contact with his 'wife' to keep his backstory with the other humans backstage consistent. But it does make you wonder who is a human and who is a robot/android/ Synthetic

With' Humans' being on C4 at the same time, how are we meant to refer to the robots on Westworld? they aren't quite the same as the Synths on 'Humans' are they?

There are so many different strands at play aren't there. Bernard , and the Man in black, set Dolores off on a certain programme, but Maeve seems to have taken control of her own destiny somehow. And someone reprogrammed the woodcutter?

Its confusing but fascinating

Still getting lots of Dollhouse vibes, and the philosophical questions are the same. Even the twist of one of the senior staff being a host/active and both us and them finding out.

Doesn't seem likely since he was in the office and on the phone to her at the exact time she was in the old theatre. It is possible she spent a long time there and he had time to get there.

Ah but what if the Bernard on the phone was the real Bernard, and the Bernard that kidnapped Elise was the Host Bernard?

You know I never even considered there might once have been a real Bernard.

I just went with the idea that Ford secretly built him and then hired him. I believe he's the longest serving member of staff apart from Ford.


There could well have been a real Bernard though who was replaced, this would then make his ex wife a real person and not just a part of the backstory created by Ford.



If there was a real Bernard I'm pretty sure he's long gone and wasn't just replaced in the latest episode though.

Yes I suspect the Host Bernard had already been in place when the phone call happened, so it was more likely to be someone other than Bernard (host or not).

Hopefully we'll find out this week what has happened to Elise;.

I've read speculation that the Bernard who interviewed Dolores (in the same lab under the secret cottage) was the real Bernard and happened in the older timeline, thirty years ago. The Bernard in today's timeline is the robot Ford built to replace him.
The speculation then says that the "Bernard" in the older timeline was actually Arnold.

Ok! Episode 8 - slow start, then a deluge of information!

Ford tells Bernard he built him to assist in adding more human emotions into hosts, as the human engineers weren't up to the task. Maybe he needed (an) 'Arnold' back...

When Bernard gets angry Ford Says "you're not the first to threaten me, Arnold came to feel the way you do"

Maeve reveals (having digested information rapidly) all hosts have an explosive charge in their spine to prevent escape. She wants it gone..

Dolores has a flashback seeing herself face down in the river and hears the inner voice "come find me" (could be "him", it's a little indistinct)

Teresa was not being copied: her body was planted in same area as the woodcutter (no host detected in area) and a satellite transmitter planted on her. Since she was behind the earlier data 'theft' this will appear plausible.... to some...

Maeve reveals an inner awareness of 'Arnold' by name, and dormant unexplained 'purpose'.

Teddy remembers the MiB dragging Dolores into the shed, and strikes him.

Maeve is now able to divert ongoing narratives purely by suggestion (she has gained elevated 'privileges').

Bernard questions Ford about whether his memories (his Wife & Son) are 'real'. Ford explains them as just his backstory. Is he lying? Could Bernard be recalling Arnold's life?
Bernard: "So what's the difference between my pain and yours, between you and me?"
Ford: "This was the very question that consumed Arnold"
Bernard: "One last thing, have you ever made me hurt anyone like this before?" (Teresa)
Ford: "No Bernard, of course not"
Bernard then sees flashback of himself choking Elsie....

Dolores and William find the place they were headed for and Dolores has a flashback to it being busy with hosts being openly 'trained' in various tasks like dancing, by lab-coated workers - and then the killing rampage she'd had flashbacks of before begins - and it's Dolores doing the shooting, before putting the gun to her own head...
Looks like they need shielding from the reality of their world. Or at least, more than they once did...

When William catches up with her, we see the location is the now barren place with the Church steeple protruding from the desert floor..
Dolores: "When are we? Is this.... now?" "This is what Arnold wants.. he wants me to remember"

The blonde British-accented girl host Teddy and MiB 'find' (not by accident, you'll see) - she is the 'greeter' that Will met in the pre-park facility.

MiB says to her: "It's you! I figured they retired you... I guess Ford never likes to waste a pretty face"

MiB reveals his Wife was troubled by his 'activities' in the park (a pointer to Will & Dolores..?)
MiB reveals his motivation for 'going evil' in the park - and that at that earlier time when Maeve's role was as the Mother and homesteader, she had tried to kill him when he shot her daughter.
He says witnessing Maeve's grief made him realise the hosts were alive. Maeve's homestead has a huge Maze representation in the ground out front.

MiB says the Maze is "Arnold's game"

Meanwhile, Maeve's actions meddling with narratves have initiated chaos, hosts randomly shooting.

We see the (much) earlier Maeve being examined underground by Ford & Bernard, in the aftermath of her attack at the hands of the MiB in the old Homestead.
Bernard's behaviour tablet shows 'Heavy Fragmentation' warning - and a diagram that looks like a disrupted image of 'the maze' - this refers to 'cognition' disruption, according to Bernard.
After erasing her memory and promising a new role for her, Maeve resists sleep - and tries to kill herself with a scalpel. Like Dolores, 'reality' was proving too much to handle.

Looks like the MiB is in Wyatt's hands now. Maybe we get to see him next episode!


ETA: Ms Hale apparently still wants a host 'incident' staged to embarass Ford - enlisting Jeremy Kyle (the irritating narrative writer guy) she chooses a suitable old host to unleash - but the one they pick is the previous Mr Abernathy.... who may still harbour his own 'issues'...
