....Anastacia/Brendan and Melvin/Janette had tied on public votes...

I wonder it that is already in or needs to be added to the 'Strictly Rulebook'??

Virtually impossible to tie the public vote. So this scenario is hugely improbable, but they could always toss a coin.

Public votes plus judges score?

I wonder what would have happened if Tess had been eaten by a crocodile mid-show.

This forum would have exploded with glee.

Are you planning to sneak a crocodile in in future should you be blessed with tickets - or do you have an "insider"???

In the case that a tie in the public vote means that they can't identify who's in the bottom 2 for purposes of the dance off it goes to Len's choice, based on the rules in years past. Based on everything I've seen of the rules, if it ends up getting particularly arcane and impossible to split the contestants they resort to "wot Len sez".

In the unlikely case of that happening they could revert to the judges scores.

So what will they do if Anastacia is in the dance-off again this Saturday? Could we be told?

Yes it **could** happen. But it's almost impossible. Besides, it could happen any other week and who knows what the contingency plan would be in that case, as it would mess with the usual way of getting a result.

I think the celebrity least in favour with the stalinist beeb would die by surreptitious application of a poisoned umbrella, and the last words on their dying breath would be "When do we really get to the moon?"

I wonder if the same 'rule' would have been found to exist had it been Danny and Anastacia in the bottom two (ignoring for these purposes the mathematical impossibility and just looking at the principal of the thing)

How can you ignore the maths though? it is a thing that couldn't happen - so is completely moot. The only way Danny could be in the dance off with Anastasia at this point, assuming that she retains her overall position would be for him to have scored considerably less than he did. Which would mean he wasn't as good as he was. Which would give us the same situation just with different names - and people would be asking, yeah, but what if it had been Melvin in the bottom 2.

If we are going down the 'what would have happened if ...' - why not Robert and Oksana - at least they stand a theoretical chance of being the other couple.

We would never have been told that though would we? They lied about a rule so why not lie as to who received the least votes?

Putting aside the fact that they didn't "lie about a rule"... there is an independent company whose job it is to count the votes. If the BBC were found to be ignoring the public vote and putting whoever they wanted in the bottom two, the independent company would just blow the whistle.

We'd need a new presenter.

And you know they didn't lie about a rule how exactly? I am not so stupid or gullible to believe for 1 second that there was such a rule

I was just looking at the principal. What happened was that, regardless of the merits of the two dancers as compared to each other (which the DO is supposed to determine), the one with the lowest public vote was eliminated. We have seen many times in Strictly a shock appearance in the DO. Normally this happens later on, and because someone is getting a sympathy bump without people realising that their favourite is actually in danger where people are bunched mid-table.

I don't have strong feelings at all about what happened. Either couple would have been a reasonable elimination. Was just speculating about the existence of this so-called 'rule' (which no one appears to have found in the terms and conditions except that there seems to be some leeway for them to decide what they want to do). I was just using Danny as the most extreme example.

The judges would need to make a snap decision.

Again, impossible. It could never have digested the master circuit.
