My exact reaction when I read that, is nothing private these days!?

They always have filmed injured people going to the doctor. Tufnell and Kate from Breakfast tv for two. This isn't any different.

I am absolutely spitting. I am surrounded by illness and infirmity at home and look to SCD for a little bit of light entertainment. I do not want to see Anastacia's mastectomy scars. I see my mother's every day when I dress her.

And can somebody tell me what sort of 'medication' you take for torn breast tissue?

I meant to add, poor Brendan. I wonder if he knew he was going to be a pawn in the Anastacia PR machine?

I would have thought the kindest thing would be to support 'poor Brendan' and cheer them on.

Yes. It is clear to me there is an agenda going on here. This may be acceptable in America but I don't think it is the right thing for the BBC. I am happy this start is donating her fee to a charity of her choice but I do not want to watch a programme about Breast Cancer unless it is billed as such, in which case I may.

They nearly always film when people are ill, or have been injured. Nothing new there.

You know turn off. Can't say I particularly feel the need to see it either however no doubt she is probably aware of mean spirited people making a mountain out of a mole hill on the Internet and felt the need to let people understand exactly what happened.

It may be she underestimated the Internet.

I have lived through my mother's double mastectomy and therefore know a little about the disease.

I can tell you that no physician would prescribe painkillers for torn scar tissue in order that a patient could indulge in physical exertion. That would be asking for trouble. Scar tissue can only heal through time and rest and taking great care.

This is particularly important for Anastacia who has had reconstructive surgery which involves even more scarring as she explains on her website. Scar tissue for a reconstruction is usually done from skin taken from other parts of the body (often the back) and used to hold up the reconstructed breasts. Anastacia has chosen quite large reconstructions which means the new skin/scar tissue is under particular and increased pressure.

It's strange, all of the Strictly blogs I've read about the weekend show have been kind and supportive to Anastacia. I guess bloggers have more breadth of view than many forum posters or people on social media generally, and also a reputation that they care to protect.

I think you need to read the postings more carefully. Very many people think that making Melvin the victim of her injuries was both unfair and inappropriate. Nobody has been unkind about Anastacia or other than supportive of her as a big star and as a courageous and gutsy fighter of a terrible disease. You need to distinguish between criticising the way the programme has been hijacked by her illness and criticism of the person herself. They are completely different although, speaking only for myself, what has happened has made me view this star somewhat differently.

So anyone who disagrees with her decision not to withdraw from the competition because she couldn't participate in the dance off doesn't have breadth of view?!?! How narrow minded is that?

Why does everyone have to be kind and supportive of someone just because she has had cancer? She made a selfish decision in my opinion and I won't be supporting her because of that and the fact she has to continually publicise the fact she is donating her fee to charity. Talk about blowing your own trumpet.

I would imagine virtually everyone posting on here has had experience of this disease whether it be in person or a family member or friend, I know I have too many times, but I am getting sick and tired of hearing about cancer. This is a Saturday night light entertainment show but it feels like Anastacia's medical history is taking over. As other posters have said I can't stand emotional blackmail in any form from any contestant but that is the way a lot of these shows operate which is why the only reality show I watch now is Strictly but it is heading in the same direction unfortunately.

Given that, accirding to this thread, that she now appears to be able to dance and so on, just how bad was she?

Truly, the age of medical miracles has dawned. Must be one of the quickest recoveries ever!

Like I said earlier in another thread, the only looser here so far is Anastacia.

Different people react differently to seeing representations of their personal experience of illness or injury on TV though, so there is no right or wrong way for the BBC to handle this. For every person who wants to forget about it completely and escape into sequins and froth, there'll be another who appreciates it being mentioned on mainstream peak time TV rather than hidden away.

I can see now why you have personal reasons for wanting the former; I suggest you record the programme, start watching it 10-15 minutes or so late, then you can FF through the Anastacia segment but still enjoy the rest of the show.
