I'm so sorry, I missed his statement. Where was it posted?
I don't think the actual Specialist is one of the many DS medical experts, but it seems s/he may appear as part of a VT on Saturday. See what they have to say then.

When you decease from your partiality to Janette I may listen to you. Otherwise you are snivellingly patronising.

I'm sorry . but that's the first post on this whole Anastacia debate that has made me actually laugh out loud . Thank you .

I truly don't think being a Janette fan will cause someone to actually die .

How many threads have you started on the topic? Stop spamming the boards.
the OP is as entitled as anyone else to put up threads...we have a choice read them, post in them or ignore them I think you would be better off ignoring them.

I like Janette, she's a good dancer and very athletic, no other female pro can high-kick their foot six inches above their head.

I doubt the whole world watch Strictly but if you want to publicise a charity what better way to do it than on prime time tv and associated media.

Should Strictly not have mentioned Sports Relief and CIN when they did those for charity?
That was very different as we were supporting those charities just by voting in the show, regardless of who we voted for.

Here, we are being reminded that voting for Anastacia to keep her in the competition longer will be financially beneficial to a charity, as opposed to giving another celeb a nice big pay cheque.

I believe telephone voting raises money that is given to charities anyway. She has merely chosen to donate her fee and raise awareness.

As for Anastasia getting special treatment from the judges votes and the public votes because of her injury - clearly she didn't last week because she was in the bottom 2. In the past the Great British Public have been tough on any injured celebs and not given them many votes. The judges haven't given injured celebs much slack either. All the indicators say that it will be tough for Anastasia in the coming weeks too.

As for the program becoming about breast cancer .... well the one thing that the public will want to know about Anastasia this week is her medical situation. It would be bizarre not to talk about it. The public won't want to see a standard VT of her riding a fairground wurlitzer to get in the mood for a Viennese waltz. From what we've seen on ITT so far this week, Anastasia isn't getting any more air time than any other celeb and I expect that will remain the case.

Of course it must be mentioned, but a simple "Anastacia took medical advice and will be dancing this week ", would suffice . I'm not interested in watching her trot in and out of Consultant's offices , nor do I need details ..
She either is injured and can't continue , or is fit to dance . The PR machine needs packed away and lets for heaven's sake get on with our Saturday night entertainment after a long working week .

Following the progress of a programme sustained injury is par for the course. It's just what they do.

From Laila Rouass and her taxi dash with Ugg boot and frozen peas, Aliona being wheeled into A&E and having x-rays mournfully explained, Phil Tuffnell and his televised arthroscopy, Georgia last year and the pharyngitis visit, Bill Turnbull and his amazing leg strapping, Artem and his poorly back and, in the spirit of Movie Week, many more. It's what they do. There is nothing special or unusual about it.

Exactly.

There are plenty of other examples of the same phenomenon - but you've caught the flavour.

I'm surprised that Heatherbell - whose post you replied to - and penelopesimpson - who started this thread - had forgotten that particular Strictly truism, given their active participation on this part of the forum in previous years.

Those were sports/dance type injuries and therefore much less sensitive subjects than discussing details of a stranger's cancer treatment .
If that makes me over sensitive then guilty as charged, but asking around work colleagues and pals there are a lot of us sensitive little flowers out here who just want a simple "Yes she will dance and all is well" or "Unfortunately Anastacia will not be dancing " .

I can't answer for penelopesimpson, obviously .
Personally I've forgotten a lot of "truisms" about telly shows because I'm more into the entertainment side of things than keeping spreadsheets on who did what/when/where and how badly injured they were , but it doesn't bother me at all because I know there are tons of experts on here happy to come up with facts and figures for me .

I don't need a spreadsheet to remember the many, many doctor's visits on SCD

I just watch the programme

Maybe, just maybe... it mattered just a teeny bit to seek the advice and opinion of a breast reconstruction specialist - and not an enthusiastic but well-meaning "generalist" - to assess the extent of the injury from last week.

Although it was giving her a great deal of pain at the time, the actual damage done may not have been as bad as first thought. If she has been examined by a competent surgeon and deemed able to proceed with her training, that really ought to be the end of the matter.

This is a forum. ...we are not all going to agree with each other because we all have different opinions. I really don't understand why some people are calling the op a troll.
The only thing I'm going to say regarding this issue is that I'm very curious to see how it's going to be handled this Saturday.

Well said, Poppy. Not wanting my Saturday night light entertainment dominated by cancer does not mean that:

1. I don't like Anastacia or support her fight
2. I am not supportive of breast cancer awareness

It simply means that having or having had cancer does not give you a god given right to be judged by different standards or expect preferential treatment - other than in a medical sense. I stopped watching BGT and X-Factor because I got fed up hearing people's sob stories. Now SCD is at it and I hate it.
Actually it does. As a cancer survivor whilst working in the UK, Anastacia is protected by the Equality Act 2010 and as such favourable treatment and reasonable adjustments must be considered by the BBC and failure to do so would be unlawful. As the results show is recorded straight after the live show it may be physically too much for Anastacia to dance again, so a reasonable adjustment could be that if in the bottom 2 she would never have to be in a dance off and the lowest votes polled would decide who leaves.

The BBC have become a little unstuck here by pretending the results show is done on a Sunday as if it were, given 24 hours recovery time Anastacia would probably be able to dance in a dance off.

Living with disabilities myself, I actually find your posts discriminatory and offensive.

I think you need to read the postings more carefully. Very many people think that making Melvin the victim of her injuries was both unfair and inappropriate. Nobody has been unkind about Anastacia or other than supportive of her as a big star and as a courageous and gutsy fighter of a terrible disease. You need to distinguish between criticising the way the programme has been hijacked by her illness and criticism of the person herself. They are completely different although, speaking only for myself, what has happened has made me view this star somewhat differently.

It also makes it seem as if they had loads of time to talk things over, when in fact they had 30 minutes. Considering that- I think they did the best they could.

It's not Anastacia or the show that's done that- it's the media reporting on social media that's done that.

Or then again, we may just be being reminded that she is not desperate to stay in the competition for personal financial gain.
