No it dosnt, So whats the big deal about ITV putitng on Star Wars
Because there scheduling is just petty they are cutting it for the news and.Why dont they put an alternative program on for people who may nor nessescarily want to watch Sci -Fi also you said in your post that you want the BBC to put on stuff for other people rather than Sci-fi and serial and drama fans that certainly suggests that in your view the BBC have been putting to much Sci-Fi on

ITV can put whatever they want on, if you dont like the itv schedule then tough, the same as people who think the BBC schedule is bad, we have to live with it |

it makes sense showing the the star wars films given that the new one is coming out. Really, does it matter?

I reckon ITV'll schedule a 7pm Saturday episode of Coronation Street to compete with the next series of Doctor Who.

I think the point is that ITV are putting on a film that they hope will split the audience for DW and take it from the 'most popular' spot on Saturday nights. They are trying to aim for the viewers of DW rather than general TV viewers, which is a tack that surely won't work considering the film they've chosen.

That would not suprise me in the least, perhaps a spin off series. |

Perhaps we should just celebrate the fact that Saturday evening on ITV is soap free
I wonder why that is? Is there some ofcom ruling that prevents 'serial dramas' being shown on Sat nights?K |

I seem to remember several years ago the ITV getting slammed for over filling with soaps, I think at that time the extended the time of the bill but reduced its episodes. Or something like that!

Most soaps are set in pubs - viewers watch for five minutes on Saturday night and think 'that's a good idea' and bugger off out for the night.

at least bbc and channel 4 have some crakin comedy programmes.
ITV is just cheesy dramas, boring soaps and gay lifestyle programmes. but historically havent they pinched all their comedy programmes from bbc, i.e. harry enfield |

I guess the thing with the Beeb (at least in the past) was their ability to let a comedy series 'bed in'. A really good example of that is 'Only Fools...'. The first series was, IIRC, not very good. What were the viewing figures for it at its height (ie. ignoring the mostly pretty awful 'specials' at the end)?

To return to the original point-that of ITV breaking for the news with thirty five minutes of a film left-they were doing this with the recent airings of the Die Hard movies and the current Bond season. However if you thought that was bad enough a couple of weeks back the schedule had the Ali G movie on with a break for News At Whenever(certainly not ten anymore) and then the last TWENTY minutes of the movie! This is just getting stupid. They sometimes argue that they have to split the film because they have to show the news within a certain time frame, showing the whole film would put the news outside of this time frame, whilst starting the film half an hour earlier would put the beginning before the watershed, and then it would have to be cut, leading to more complaints.
Previous comments on this topic have suggested that as more and more people go digital/multi channel, the requirement to show the news within a certain time frame should be dropped,as digital tv provides for twenty four hour access to rolling news channels,so you can get the news whenever you want it. Running a film from 9 till 11 and then showing the news would be a popular move and might even win them a few viewers back. Perhaps we should lobby OFCOM or whoever to get the 'news within this timeframe' ruling scrapped. |
