EE - Are you enjoying it at the moment?
I am. In fact I don't think I have enjoyed it as much in years. I love the character development we ar seeing, I love how it's gone back to every day plots rather than sensationalism.
It's by no means perfect but it's improving. |

I'm loving the simplicity and the fact the characters are being see as human. This is what made EE a big name in the 80s and 90s, and I'm glad this is SOC's vision.

Yes. For the same reason you mentioned. I haven't enjoyed it this much in years. Actually looking forward to every ep again, yes nowt big is happening at the mo, it will come, I can see he's ironing out the ruined characters atm, people like Vincent and donna are suddenly ok (imo)
couldn't stand them before etcThe writing seems better and it seems less miserable. More laughter/joy. Liking the talk of everyday things. The community spirit (Thursday's ep everyone helping Stacey move in etc) |

The community spirit has been missing for a long time, it's nice seeing characters interact when they've barely acknowledged each other before. |

I am, but I'll enjoy it so much more when Pam Coker and her miserable face leave.

For the first time tonight I thought some scenes really dragged. Carmel hanging curtains was even less interesting than Kim and the parking fine.

I have been enjoying the vast improvement in the writing and characterisations Scrabs but I don't know if I can vote...yet.
I am still very upset about some of the axings, particularly due to the fact if he had waited a few months and let the improvement in the technical side show through as it is beginning to some of the characters could have been saved without any problem. #distinctlyundecided |

Yes but there is not much going on, something needs to happen soon.

The writing and acting has been sensational. A massive turn around. I love the simplicity and major focus on character development. If this is a sign of things to come, then i am massively excited.

We have characters now, talking in ways we recognise, chatting with each other and not being restricted to characters in their storyline - best example of this being the sofa scenes last week where we had a few random characters just sitting chatting and drinking. I bet some of them hadn't shared the screen before!.
Characters aren't jumping from one drama/trauma to another without anything in between. Their current problems are every day, recognisable problems e.g. finding a new/bigger home we can afford and not having a partner and feeling sorry for yourself. Others involve the real human reactions of someone becoming chronically disabled and the affect it has on the victim and their spouse and family. Or an old woman being put out to pasture because someone has decided she's too old for a job. Or of course the heartbroken and bewildered reactioins of bereaved grandparents searching for an answer to their question 'WHY?' It's all recognisable and quite easy for me to empathise with. The writing's so good I'm almost feeling sorry for Jane ![]() I'm thoroughly enjoying it, including the more muted but often full of emotional pathos duff-duffs. |

The axing which is annoying/affecting me more than any other is the sublime Cokers. I think SOC is making a huge mistake when it comes to them. It's not like they're even isolated characters, they're part of Billy and Honey's family (as proved last night) and they interact well with others on the square, particularly Pam. I'll never understand the logic behind his decision.

I watched it for the first time in several weeks tonight and was astonished by how good it was - Three emotional story lines, all played superbly, trusting the words and interactions to carry the drama. If a woman trying to open a packet of biscuits or a man buying some chips seems charged with implicit meaning then you know you're doing something right.

The last two weeks have been fabulous. The characters feel real and human again. Small touches have made a whole world of difference. No murders, guns, explosions, just solid, character-driven drama. The writing is absolutely on point right now. For example, they're doing a repair job on Ian and Jane that really should have been done last year. And I'm enjoying characters I have previously found unwatchable.
I'm really impressed with SOC's work so far. Feels like proper EastEnders again. |

I like it better when things happen. The desperate and constant attempts to rehabilitate McBeale show just how far removed TPTB are from reality on this one.

actually I do - seem to have a much better flow - they talk about money or the lack of it / housing / getting an oyster card rather than a driving license - and like many others have mentioned, they seem more human.

For some reason, I found Carmel hiding behind that chair hilarious.

I'm liking it, it's been a pleasant 30 minutes there may not be explosions or murders but I found that tedious.
Dot's loneliness is an all too common thing for the elderly these days, my parents had an elderly lady turn up on their doorstep the other day and both her neighbours had moved out and she didn't really know her new ones and she had no family nearby. It was rather sad hearing about it. Watching people help the Fowlers move was nice and normal, it's what neighbours and friends do. SOC did well on the Archers (which incidentally I am actually listening to right now) so hopefully he can do well on Eastenders. |

What was the BBC thinking having DTC in charge for so long. That idiot ruined nearly 30 years of EE singlehandedly.

I'm enjoying it. The writing is far better, relationships and friendships showed in the past couple of weeks feel more developed than they ever did under Dtc.
However there's no really interesting storylines at the minute, which should be expected as we're in a transition stage, but until the exciting stuff gets going there's nothing to make me watch night after night. Good start by SOC but we need some proper storylines soon to maintain interest. |
