i certainly get that impression when i compare them in the shop, i much prefer the S6 camera as it has a more 'warm' glow type look to the images and reminds me abit of the iPhone 6 camera which i have always liked when using friends phones (though i do not like apple), however the screen is pretty dire on the S6 and i much prefer the screen on the S7. which is what puts me off getting the s6, which is best?
i have tried fiddling with the settings on the S7 to get it to 'look' like the s6 cameras images but not sure what im looking for

If it helps, overall S7 is a much better phone. Water resistance, MUCH better battery life, better build quality, microSD card expandability, reduced camera bump...

Seconded, the S7 is better all round.

Maybe the camera on the S6 is better but if so it'll be the only thing that is. The S6 had rubbish signal and battery life, plus several other little niggles that irritated me to the point I got rid of it within a couple of months, but the S7 has dealt with them all - it's a really excellent phone.

My missus had the s6 and it is the best phone camera I have ever seen - it makes my iphone 6 camera look like a £50 chinese phone in low light especially the video camera - (note I havent played with the camera on the s7)

She is very happy with it but the battery isnt great (about the same as my iphone 6) and signal does seem a little worse that my iphone 6.

The s6 has a 16:9 lens the s7 has a 4:3. i prefere the natural 16:9 so in that respect yes the s6 is better. But overall id say the s7.

You can change the aspect ratio of shots taken using both the S6 and S7 in the settings menu. But you will sacrifice some resolution on the S7 by doing so.

As preecey said, you can set 16:9, 4:3 or 1:1.

But it's a 4:3 sensor and the 16:9 and 1:1 options are just crops of the 4:3 12MP image. For maximum image size and more flexibility in processing afterwards, choose the 4:3; for best fit to the S7 screen, choose 16:9.

The sensor pixel count has been reduced from 16MP to 12MP to allow larger pixels, which capture more light. The lens aperture is also slightly larger than S6 (f/1.7 vs. f/1.9) and the net result is a 90% increase in the amount of light captured by each pixel. That should mean better low light performance and less noise in dark conditions.

It also uses dual pixel phase detection for faster focussing.

As even 12MP isn't needed for say high quality A4 size prints, the net result is a better camera in S7 than S6, and if the processing is at least as good, better quality photos.
