Battery life has suddenly become terrible. 100% to zero in half a day with minimal usage. I've checked 'Battery' and there's no clear indicator of what it is . The highest usage % is screen with 19%, but it always has been - I've also fiddled with screen settings but no change.
It's also started to lag when opening apps or even typing on google keyboard.
Occasionally it goes to black screen and have to reboot.

Hoping to avoid having to buy a new phone. I'm not a contract customer (SIM only). Phone is about 2 years old.
Any suggestions on how to keep it going? The battery is the single biggest problem so I thought get a new one, but don't want to waste money if it's a lost cause.

Without replacing the battery you'll never know if it's the battery at fault, depending on how you've used it it's possible the battery could be the issue, being 2 years old.

Could try a factory reset, if that doesn't change anything i would look at getting another battery, you can get a Anker galaxy s5 battery from amazon for £10. They are a good quality brand of battery.

thanks guys
Amazon cancelled my order for a genuine Samsung replacement battery as they couldn't supply one, so guess I'll have to get a 3rd party one.
Anker better than Duracell?

Never mind battery draining fast when it's switched on and idle. Just how does one manage to use a Samsung Galaxy S5 smartphone in continous use from full with the battery lasting more than a few hours before it runs out, RAM staying below 50% and the CPU temperature always staying well below 40 degrees C and the phone always feeling cool? It seems like achieving all that in continuous use will be a miracle.

In continuous use from 100% until the battery runs low, I usually use about 15 to 20% per hour, CPU temperatures on occasions rise above 50+ degrees C (61 degrees C is one recent CPU temperature reading before a Clean Master phone boost dropped it by 3 degrees C before rising back to 61 degrees C again shortly after) and RAM often approaching 80%, and the battery runs out inside 6 hours, plus the phone often feels very warm.

Just how on earth does opening an app raise the CPU temperature from 25 degrees C to 60 degrees C in little time at all?

The Zerolemon S5 Battery (got it in my phone) it's huge but battery can last a good few days or in my case a week

I have an s5 myself and I am a heavy user and its resonable between charges 2 and a half hours screen time mixed with google chrome which uses alot of system resources including the battery... I had to replace the battery in mine and much better life now.

Tell me more what version of android are you using? Have you ever wiped/flashed the phone since you got it? Do you have GPS on all the time

Also in the meantime download GSAM battery monitor that will pinpoint where the issue lies or rule out alot of things you suspect

I went for a battery kit after being fed up with the fake ones off Ebay/Amazon.

I bought it directly off Samsung, but they have it on Amazon as well.

The battery charger is very handy if you get hold of a spare battery as it will charge it out the phone.

No, have done nothing to the phone since new (don't know how anyhow!). It's running marshmallow 6.0.1. I have always kept location services on since it was new.
I ran the battery checker app, thanks. It tells me the main usage is screen @40% (that's been on with the app download and check), android system, android kernel, then the GSAM app. Used 4% in 5m50secs active. App usage 54% (as above)
Says battery temp is 31 degs C. Isn't that abnormally hot?

Averages per complete charge >battery life or screen on calculation is taking so long I just quit it. But the top circle graph says time remaining with 36% batt life is 1h10min.
It was at 85% this morning and have used it for this app install and check, 2 phone calls and 5 whatsapps today. That's all.

how do I turn this app off though? Quitting it just keeps it running on my notification screen?

Although I'm tempted to get a new official battery, I think the prob is deeper than just the battery. Some apps sometimes (not always) take up to 20 seconds to open - white screen.
I was hoping the S7 would drop in price but that's not going to happen with such a weak £ and the Note fiasco.

Ordered the battery kit off amazon, thanks
