Interesting decision. But I can see why they did it. He will probably pin everything on Vinnny to save his own neck regarding the flats, that suddenly everyone on the street wants, and Vinny always seems like a temporary character anyway.

Phelan has the potential to be an Archie-esque type villain. It would also be interesting to see the Phelan family being developed. Bring in two good-looking but equally dodgy sons. Corrie needs more a strong male characters as men seem to be portrayed as idiot s for their overdressed wives and girlfriends. The Phelans could change that.

Not for me. I don't like storylines that drag on and on and the baddy keeps getting away with it.

Yes magnificent news! Phelan is one of the best things on Corrie atm and there are many other characters I would like to see him ruin.

However like another said it would be nice if he had kids.

My main problem with Phelan is that at the moment he has all the hallmarks of a panto-villain. There is nothing shown to care about him.

When he told Todd that he loved Eileen, I thought it was just talk. That said, if we see some indication that he can and does care about something other than money, then he could be interesting. At least he baulked at Vinnie's apparent plan to kill Todd. Perhaps,he can be salvaged as a damaged and ruthless character.

Sounds as if Vinnie disappears with all the cash. Maybe Phelan w stay as a dodgy builder type such as Charlie Stubbbs and Owen in his earlier days if he has to make ends meet.

Great stuff. I just hope this doesn't mean that Horrible Eileen isn't going to be reduced to a quivering wreck penniless and homeless Still if Phelan gets to stay I guess i could try to deal with it

Phelan makes my skin crawl. He is so slimy and just a horrible person. If he stays on I really want him to be caught out and banged up for a very long time. Perhaps when Vinnie does a runner he will name him from afar as a final act of revenge for having to be nice to Eileen. You could see he really didn't want to do that.

Great news, love Phelan, I just want to see Eileen get her comeuppance with her smugness brought down peg or two!

This is excellent news - Corrie is in dire need of men that aren't thick, juvenile or under the thumb

Excellent. I was worried that he would be a goner when the flat scam story came to a climax. Long live the king!

One very positive thing I'll say about the Phelan storyline is that it makes a welcome change from the relationship / cheating and sensational murders stuff which are done ad nauseum : this is something a bit different.

Completely agree. It's refreshing to have a storyline take centre stage that doesn't involve a love triangle or another 'Who's the daddy?' rehash.

"They've extended my original contract, which is great."
Doesn't say how long for. Hopefully just a week.

Shame, Corrie is a bit of a chore to watch sometimes and this bit of news does not improve things one bit.

Well good. Hopefully this will put paid to some of the "Phelan is a villain" conspiracy theories.

When Phelan leaves I want it to be on a plane after conning someone.

Imagine him sitting in the 1st class section with the sunglasses on and laughing as the plane takes off.

Can't stand the slimy toad but that's down to the actor being so good. I think corrie have realised this and are probably looking at ways to keep him in the show but not change him too much so pat could end up setting vinny up. I'm also thinking his feelings for Eileen maybe genuine or become genuine.

Hurrah!

Long live the king!

Now all we need is Eileen hitting rock bottom.....or floating in the canal...

This is great news Phelan is by far the best character in Corrie at the moment in fact they could dispense with a few of the deadwood characters and make Phelan way more prominent.

Excellent news, Phelan is a very interesting, complex character and the dynamic with Todd is intriguing, I hope they continue with that like they started to touch on with Todd and Tony. Tony was a loss to the show, so it's good to have a replacement dodgy bad guy.

What would have been even more interesting is what Tony would have made of Phelan - probably would have seen straight through him but with a degree of admiration too. It's a shame we'll never know.

Still, if Phelan is sticking around, it makes the climax and aftermath of the flats scam a lot more interesting and unpredictable and perhaps the consequences much more intense for same of the characters involved.

Great news and I like Vinny too they are good together, but I really want Eileen to lose everything.

I hope the scam comes off a little after all this work.

Me too I would like to see Phelan and Vinny get away with Eileen and Todd left to take the blame.

Don't rate the actor, sick to the back teeth of the plot, so you can imagine how thrilled I am at this news.

Helen Flanagan is on her way back

I love Corrie's baddies. Phelan is no exception
