I always liked Phelan and it's great to see a proper Alpha male, rather than these henpecked/verbally abused men such as Steve at the hands of Michelle, and Andy at the hands of Steph - who has the potential to be the next Michelle, the way she talks down to and mocks Andy.

Ken Barlow has been sucking on that coronation street teat for over half a century. Everyone else wants the same deal for Phelan except you. This is nothing but pure hatred on your behalf. It must feel lonely being a voice in the wilderness. Why don't you try to be like Phelan and walk with your head held high and malice toward none. You might get to like it.

My thought too. It doesn't say that he's just signed a contract for x number of months/years as has been said in the past for other actors, just that his contract has been extended. That suggests short term. Hope so.

He's an absolute sweetheart on twitter. He interacts with fans of the show and is forever liking tweets relating to Phelan.
Personally I think he's a great actor and I'm happy that he'll be sticking around for a bit longer.

I'm wondering if originally Corrie was going down a much darker path with phelan. When Michael fell down them steps at the yard and phelan watched as Michael looked like he was dying and phelan just smiled, it was only when Jason arrived that he showed concern. That showed something psychopathic in him. I think now Corrie have seen how good the actor is and changed his character to keep him in the show.

That's a really good point. I was wondering the same thing myself. When he first came back at the start of the year, when he was winding up Anna, when he was playing Jason, I really thought they were going to go down the Tony Gordon route of portraying him as an out and out nutcase. But since Vinny has arrived, and since Todd has joined in proceedings, I think Phelan's character has become more nuanced and harder to call.

Kate (Earn your) Oates should beg and pay the KING'S ransom if she hasn't done so already. This should not be a ruse that leads to an unpopular twist as the multi award winning saviour of The Street is entitled (and titled) to reign as long as he chooses.

Every time I speak to my friend Pat his first words are always " how is cool mate doing, we'll I hope. Tell him I've reserved an apartment for him". Looks like Phelan will try and claim he knew nothing about it when Vinny runs off. Then it'll come out later and Eileen's disastrous love life saga will continue.

Yeah, I agree. I'm all for strong women but it needs to be balanced. Other soaps I feel have more of a balance between strong women and strong men, but Corrie doesn't. So it is a nice change of pace to have Phelan here.

Yes, all we're seeing is it looking like he's going to get his comeuppance and then somehow getting away with it. It's happened over and over again and it's so repetitive, boring and tedious. It's been going on for far too long.

While I don't care about the character one way or the other, I was looking forward to seeing Eileen with a HUGE amount of egg on her face after the scam ended. Now if Phelan wriggles out of it, it will be a massive anticlimax.

What's kept me watching was the payoff of Eileen's realisation that she's been had and Anna, Michael and even Todd were right all along. Not sure how they do this and keep Phelan around. I'll be disappointed at anything less.

Great news. I think Phelan's a fantastic character. Corrie's really good at present with the flats storyline and David's too.

Had he gone he would have been sorely missed by the forum and his creditors. And I like him too.

So how will he ever get his commuppence. I was hoping that Eileen would discover the scam and would have to eat humble pie where Anna is concerned.

Paddy Phelan is a very bad man - but I like him. The actor is so good that he keeps me watching, even when he is up to his tricks. I am pleased that he is staying in Corrie.
