I think that's a really important point.

And the promotion really clicked into gear under Moffat. RTD focused mainly on the UK, while Moffat went internationally. Tennant may well be the most popular Doctor, but i feel a lot of them would have watched him during Moffat's reign once they knew about the show.

This article really just states the ratings, but it is also a record rating in all the international countries they mentioned, this indicates growth.

That article is actually a good one about just the ratings discussion in general and how they are misleading, but the main one i wanted to point out is the 77 million rating internationally. I don't feel the show was pulling in close to those figures under RTD, i can't find the international ratings for his era, if you do i'd love to know.

This is also just higher ratings really internationally.

But the season 7 premiere ''Asylum of the Daleks' was watched by a "record breaking" 1.55m viewers in the US in 2012.

But RTD's last 'season premier' 'Voyage of the Damned' (broadcast as the season 4 premiere ) was watched by 1.48 million viewers in 2008. So they are pretty much constant.

Important also to note that even by the end of 2008, more and more stations in the US were picking up the show so I don't think its fair to say RTD wasn't focussed on US sales.

Interesting to read these debates on international viewership. From my point of view, I would agree with mullet's point of view that a rise in international sales over time seems like it would be down to the show just gradually becoming more and more known naturally the longer it stays on air. Just a personal view of course, but like many of these things, its all down to your own subjective viewpoint.

The thing is though, getting into international sales is a tricky business, as everyone seems to focus on the US, but if we were really going to properly analyse international viewership, to comment on viewership globally, you'd have to make sure you knew every single country which the show has been sold to, and every scrap of information on how it fairs ratings wise in those countries and how that might of changed in various years.

For me personally, it is a British show, and is made, and was made originally, to be shown first and foremost to a British audience in my view. As such, If the show is said to be doing great in America, but is falling in ratings and respect here, then as someone living in this country, the fact that Americans are liking it doesn't exactly make me personally feel better about how it's fairing here, even if the BBC deems American success an overall success themselves.

Honestly, dbb, don't flatter yourself believing this is something personal... me and Mullet hardly see eye to eye either. I'm just pointing out the absurdity in which you defiantly criticise another forum member for making remarks on other's intentions when you do the exact same thing yourself, albeit more subtlely. But go ahead and read into things that aren't even there, as usual.


I'll keep a look out for when that actually happens. In the meantime, if you don't like being "personally attacked" on here then I would suggest not making things up about other forum members, because it's not going to help you there. This is a place for discussion, not p***ing contests.
