Brian Packham Return (possible Spoiler)
it says he comes back to help out Ken and Roy with some issues......
my spider senses are telling me that
Spoiler
also as a side note - did anyone else think the current headmaster who was dealing with Bethany and Lauren had essences of Pakham, and possibly even based on him |

Kate Oates has a lot more dud characters to deal with then EE, Corrie carries a lot more long term characters who have been there more then a decade, she seems to be plastering over and trying to boost the current cast with returns, instead of getting rid and bringing in new, I actually think she has a lot more work to do to make some of theses deadwood characters workable as opposite to SOC.
SOC has axed a few but I don't think any of them are determent to the show, the only ones that really stand out are Ronnie & Roxy and Masood, which all three have pretty much been exhausted anyway. His using the current cast I think he being quite logical, as loads of returns doesn't always scream great more desperate as much as axing screams bad, EE foundations need fixing and that is what he doing imo. |

Regarding Corrie & new characters , I think Blackburn brought in more new characters than were ever needed or advantagious to the show!! Before bringing in yet more Kate needs to either utilise or dispose of those newbies that came in under Blackburn, thinking of the likes of Rana, Erica, Kate, Alya, Luke, Andy, etc who up to now have been little more than wallpaper!!

Claire King was amazing as Kim Tate in Emmerdale,
Totally underused as Erica in Corrie. |

Kate Oates does not need to fire anyone. Corrie has lost several long term characters in the past few years with Haley, Tina, Jason, Carla and Deidre. The last thing she needs to do is to fire vets because some viewers don't like those characters. And I'm going to refer again to Douglas Marland's rules on how not to wreck a soap: Quote:
ow Not To Wreck A Show BIB: Kate Oates is doing just that she isn't swinging the axe and is attempting to work with who she's got.
* Watch the show. * Learn the history of the show. You would be surprised at the ideas that you can get from the back story of your characters. * Read the fan mail. The very characters that are not thrilling to you may be the audience's favorites. * Be objective. When I came in to ATWT, the first thing I said was, what is pleasing the audience? You have to put your own personal likes and dislikes aside and develop the characters that the audience wants to see. * Talk to everyone; writers and actors especially. There may be something in a character's history that will work beautifully for you, and who would know better than the actor who has been playing the role? * Don't change a core character. You can certainly give them edges they didn't have before, or give them a logical reason to change their behavior. But when the audience says, "He would never do that," then you have failed. * Build new characters slowly. Everyone knows that it takes six months to a year for an audience to care about a new character. Tie them in to existing characters. Don't shove them down the viewers' throats. * If you feel staff changes are in order, look within the organization first. P&G [Procter & Gamble] does a lot of promoting from within. Almost all of our producers worked their way up from staff positions, and that means they know the show. * Don't fire anyone for six months. I feel very deeply that you should look at the show's canvas before you do anything. * Good soap opera is good storytelling. It's very simple. |
