I somehow can't imagine Clegg being a great success as host but at least Hislop and Merton should give him a hard time (with a bit of luck!).

It's just reading out loud. How hard can it be?

I may be doing them a dis-service, and I daresay the host and guests were arranged many months ago, but with everything that's happened over the past few months - as exmplified by the trailer - it's a pity they couldn't get people more, shall we say, tried and trusted for this first show. Bridges and Conaty are fine comedians, but can they turn on the satire or politics like, say, And Hamilton can? As for Nick Clegg, the danger is that it'll end up being about him (not through his choosing, though ), rather than the inherent craziness of the UK at the moment. Where's Alexander when we need him?

Well, Clegg or no Clegg, they'll have enough to joke about if they only get as far as UKIP!!!!

I like Kevin Bridges he has been good on previous appearances. Roisin just leaves me cold, cannot bear her 'I'm thick me' shtick.

I agree. Instead of focussing on the crazy last few months, there is the fear that they will focus on Clegg and the Lib Dem's at the last general election, which isn't exactly current.

Yep, agreed. The first show can sometimes be a little clunky, I just hope Ian puts his ego aside and focusses on the actual stuff that happened this week.

Not a lot of material this week, () the odd, very odd, punch up, err UKIP, and UKIP.

Corbyn's reshuffle,

Maybe a lot of hurricane force wind.

I see the long rest has done nothing for Merton. Hislop is doing all the heavy lifting to the point where he should be paid half as much again as Captain Random over the other side.

Somehow HIGNFY has gone a bit cruder than it used to be. A few good laughs though.

I think Clegg did a decent enough job.

Decent start to the series, Hislop on good form as per usual, Paul quiet as usual, Conaty said nothing of note, Bridges had a couple of funny lines, Clegg surprisingly good.

I would have thought they would stay clear of the UKIP incident, it is still not clear what happened and was even less clear when they recorded the programme yesterday.

Trying to remember what they might have been.

Clegg was really good. One of the best presenters the show has had. Hope he's back soon.

I think that is getting a bit carried away. He was not as bad as I expected but that was mainly because Ian and Paul were able to get some laughs out of the Liberals.

You would be surprised.I seem to remember when Neil Kinnock was guest presenter & he was bloody awful at it

So was John Prescott. I've tried to erase that one from my memory bank - it was excruciating.

Robert Lindsay will take some beating for Worst Host Ever.

Clegg was good - I imagine the extended version will show him in an even better light.

He usually does on these kinds of programmes. With his more public mistakes, he doesn't have a lot of choice other than to own it. On this occasion I thought he mostly just shut up when they turned on him. Which was a good thing IMHO because the show didn't need to be all about him.
