As I said this was tired and unfunny. Why not get some one in who was a Trump supporter and have a bit of banter.

It wouldn't have been nearly so vitriolic and grumpy, I think. And that's the problem - the show is presumably meant to be politically neutral overall, which it usually manages to be. I think the whole show was very one-sided. I know it's easy to go for the easy targets in humour, but it would be much cleverer if somebody on this show had dug a little deeper to take the piss out of both sides. Find something funny about Clinton. These people are highly paid satirists/humourists; it's their job.

I'm afraid most of the humour last night got lost in obvious bitterness. At the end of the day, it's a democratic decision made by a free Western country. Can it possibly quite as loony as this lot were painting? Unless they're claiming that (literally) half of America is completely stupid... and that's probably a bit racist, non?

I've watched HIGNIFY all my life but it's just getting boring now. It's the Marcus Brigstocke sort of 'humour' that relies on the audience agreeing on the political outlook. "Mrs Thatch - don't you hate her? Hahaha ... The Tories... don't you hate them? hahaha ... Donald Trump - he's mad .. don't you hate him? Snigger hahaha"

Last night should have been so good. So much for them to go at, but possibly the worst edition ever.

Well said - the achingly trendy lefties just don't get that the political landscape is changing. Brigstocke has made an entire career out of doing an inane, open-mouthed expression over the top of his glasses which chimes with the kind of idiots who attend his 'live' shows.
I'm sure supporters of Brexit ('closet racists, fruitcakes and loonies) and Trump (racist, rednecks, 'basket of deplorables' etc.) have endured far worse - and better thought-out 'insults' - at junior school.

last weeks and last nights were vintage, its as funny as it has ever been and it really helps when there a big political story.

I'm glad you enjoyed them. For me, last night's edition was a big disappointment. It made for uncomfortable viewing, particularly Maureen Lipman's contribution. I used to be a fan.

When will actors and singers stop thinking they can influence voters. Its insulting and certainly didn't work for Cameron or Clinton. Sorry...... a little off topic I suppose.

I'm really surprised that some just don't get this show.

Of course they're going to have a go at anything and everything, emphasising any titbit that can be perceived by even one person as wrong/funny/bizarre about any situation. If they didn't there'd be no show - Trump won by a democratic vote; end of programme still with 27 minutes to fill.

You have to forget your own opinions when watching.

There is nothing funny about Clinton and there never will be. She is a career politician whose slavish devotion to the system gave this crazy, blowhard, sexist, racist the keys to the White House.

Both the Republicans and the Democrats should be ashamed of themselves not putting up credible candidates.

Trump will be the gift that keeps on giving as he is an arrogant idiot. Pointing and laughing at him is the correct response. Ignoring Clinton's existence is also the correct one. There were no jokes about her as she is already, thankfully, an irrelevance.

Finding a Trump supporter will be difficult as even most Republicans hate him and are just using him.

Of course we could all cry like little children and throw a hissy fit because they were being mean to the ickle poor President.

The problem with the show now is it's predictable and completely biased. Same layout every week, Anti-Brexit Anti-Trump and Anti-Russian. That Lipman woman was an embassment just whinging, Hislop has become a bore with his Anti-Brexit views and Merton is just a yes man who just turns up for his salary. Now is a good time for this show to be scrapped.

Exactly. The weakest bits are always the funny photos and the comedy videos nicked from YouTube (like the dog that might have been auditioning for the John Lewis advert) because there's no edge to them. What makes satire enjoyable is it's angry; it's not a lighthearted look at the news, it's a furious attack on all that's stupid and ridiculous in the world.

There's probably room for a more lighthearted topical comedy show - maybe they should revamp Mock the Week with less swearing and a more likeable host.

I'm going to have to refrain from commenting because most of the contributors on here must have been watching a totally different show.

Perhaps I am easily amused, just go with the flow and don't try to academically dissect everything. Obviously it's going to appear lefty to the right-wingers on here, but then that probably applies to every programme they watch.

Sometimes it's nothing to do with a persons political leanings as to whether they are amused, sometimes they just don't find something funny. Doesn't mean they are more right wing or less intelligent, it just didn't make them laugh.

I am far from a Trump supporter but I found this show predictable and trite. And this is from someone who rated it as her favourite unmissable programme for many years.

And yesterday felt like a wasted opportunity. It seemed like they were collectively all too angry/dismayed/bemused than to be funny. More like just telling us what we should think than hitting the target.

It just just never stood a chance. Never found either Brooker or Hall remotely funny and Lipman does not even try to be funny.

Face it Trump is news, Clinton is history. Only a bad comedian would continue to make jokes about her?

I only watch HIGNFY now if theres a good guest mix and therefore the possibility of some really funny and witty exchanges.....a shame really as I was always a massive fan of the show from the early days with Angus Deayton at the helm. Its now become a tired old shell of itself. Paul Merton has coasted for quite some time now in a "cant be arsed with all this" sort of way. Ive been a regular subscriber to Private Eye from well before HIGNY arrived and unfortunately, it would appear that Ian Hislop's somewhat pompous contribution has now started to run in tandem with that of of his magazine...dull, repetitive and rather smug and having the same old zzz targets. Sadly,
I don't think I'll be renewing when my current subscription ends.
Ps...that the show's production team sanctioned last night's old as the hills hackneyed dig about Liverpool says more about them and Brooker than it ever does about Liverpool...not a knee jerk either considering Harry Enfield's "de do doh don't dee doh" - The Scousers still makes us laugh out loud here.

As with all humour, it's all down to personal taste. What you find unfunny, others will not.

We do get the odd joke about Ed in various places and his brother was victim of one of the funniest comments about a British politician which is still heard.

Clegg does seem to being seen a bit more often recently, perhaps the Liberals have realised that his replacement is even more useless than he was.

I just remember Deayton as being too full of himself, I don't think he was anywhere near as good as some people think he was. I suppose Hislop and Merton could always make a joke about him if things were flagging.

Right, okay.

And yes, a woman is compulsory since 2013 I think, which makes sense. Panel shows are too male dominated anyway.
