Well apparently now Trump has won Katie Hopkins is now moving to the USA. Hurray! The only good thing to come out of this result.

I normally delete the recordings after I've watched them, but the last two have been such classics that I'm saving them for the TV desert on Christmas Day.

Thanks to technology she can still write her columns from there and present her Sunday phone-in, as LBC did last week.

I suspect that if Clinton had won the election then tonight's programme would have had a quite different tone.
Well as you say you can only 'suspect' and never actually know so your comment takes us nowhere really does it?

Look I don't like Trump, I wouldnt have voted for him if I was an American.

Millions of people watch HIGNFY every week and no wonder they want to kick the establishment when posh Ian Hislop and Charlie Brooker are telling them they are morons.
They're not wrong though are they? History has taught us the electorate are exactly that. Why do we have to shy away from the truth simply because it may not be palatable or PC?

They forgot this is meant to be a comedy entertainment show this week and just made it a political tirade against Trump so it just was boring. It proves the BBC are losing the plot

They should have had someone like Katie hopkins or Clarkson as the host that would have been funny as it would have set up some banter.

Lipman wasn't in the least bit funny and just came across as bitter. Total waste of time. Is this the policy where they have to have a female guest on now ?
Must disagree 100% - very good show.

supporters of Brexit ('closet racists, fruitcakes and loonies) and Trump (racist, rednecks, 'basket of deplorables' etc.) .
Well 10 out of 10 for accuracy.

I'll reword it then and say "I know the programme would definitely have had a quite different tone". Lipman and the American would have been gushing about how wonderful Clinton is.

My litmus test is simple.

Did it make me laugh?

And yesterday felt like a wasted opportunity. It seemed like they were collectively all too angry/dismayed/bemused than to be funny. .
Can you laugh and be funny when the lunatics have taken over the asylum - I doubt it.

Again how can you 'know', unless you have some sort of psychic power? At best it can only be 'your opinion'.

It's quite obvious where the sympathies of Lipman and Hall lie, you don't have to be psychic to see that.

What if they were? Would it matter? As long as they inject some humour along the way.

It's not a comedy entertainment show, it's a satirical news quiz show - the two are not the same. If you want comedy entertainment then stick with something like WILTY.

I would have thought with your left wing views you would be in favour of diversity i.e. having a female guest as part of BBC policy?

Its a light entertainment programme, as HIGNFY used to say to placate the lawyers, "allegedly". Unless BAFTA was wrong of course awarding the show "Best Comedy Entertainment Programme". Its lost its way humour wise...surely its very raison d'etre... and has become a boring rant-fest recently. If the likes of Hislop is so eaten up and cant even feign wit rather than oozing bitterness, then he needs to pack it in and concentrate on his magazine before long term subscribers like me pack him in.

Great show last night. Gave me almost as many laughs as the patently obvious Trump supporting Brexiters posting on here!

My my they really are touchy aren't they?

To be fair the BAFTAs famously gave Top Gear a 'best factual programme' award, even the presenters thought that was stupid. So BAFTA's opinion of the nature of a show shouldn't be taken as somehow sacrosanct and a 'fact'.

HIGNFY is a show about the news (the clue is in the title after all). The news can be light or it can be dark - for a lot of people the news right now is pretty much pitch black, so you (or I) have no right to say that our view of the news should take precedent over theirs. As far as I know, when you pay your licence fee you're not sent a signed contract that says 'All shows will meet your expectation of what they are and how they behave'.

If they want to be light and frivolous they can. There are comedians who are light and frivolous, after all. if they want to be overtly political and ranty, they can. There are comedians who are overtly political and ranty, after all. Charlie Brooker is famously NOT light and frivolous, so it was a fair bet when it was his turn to host the show wouldn't be either. Given the lead times bookings, it may simply be a coincidence he's on this week, although I suspect in fact it isn't.

You, or I, or any other individual viewer, cannot define what any given show is 'supposed to be', because we are only one opinion among millions. The people who make the show get to make the show they want to make. If nobody likes it, they don't get to make it any more. There are no other rules, outside of specific factual news broadcasts, anyway.

Indeed. Anyone winding up right-whingers is doing a good job in my book.

Long may it continue.

I think that given the comedy potential this was a disappointing edition. Hall and lipman (who the hell does she think she is) were just unfunny. Some light and shade were needed we have to think about why Trump was successful just spouting vitriol about his supporters does not make for intelligent or amusing debate.

I sure she said she was going to leave if Brexit won.

Whoa there !! Save the lecture. You seem to think I was dictating... au contraire. I was merely giving an opinion - my opinion...where did I say other people were wrong and mine was the definitive view. Nowhere. I worked in news media for 25 years and also in radio production so certainly don't need you to preach to me on the minutiae of how HIGFNY should be categorised. And me thinking BAFTA "sacrosanct" ....do me a favour. Have a look at Hat Trick's own website..the show's description varies in the different awards it has attained. Brooker is indeed not frivolous. But that has no particular bearing on last nights show considering he didn't write or produce the script. I don't think for one minute he would have thought the threadbare Liverpool "joke" funny in reality... but of course I could be wrong. The dictatorial nature of your post is ironic considering youre accusing me of the very same stance. Not at all. Here for many years, we just used to have a bloody good end of week belly laugh with a drink watching my favourite show...now its boring me. That's not only my opinion...others on here think so too, though in my case you may have noticed, I didn't even refer to crazy politics.

You've obviously been watching the alternate reality version of HIGNFY. Your description of the show doesn't accord with what I am watching.
