Quite simply the worst Dr Who I have seen since the return in 2005. A year we waited, and we get this? Who on earth saw this as a completed package and thought it was a good idea to air it. Shameful.

This is how a great TV show makes itself irrelevant.

Imagine the worst TV ever, then double it.
It's official: you know Doctor Who's back when these comments show up.

Anyway, much the same as last year's affair. Decent but mostly nothing more than silly Christmas filler. I was more intrigued by the S10 trailer. Bill looks promising (although I'm thrown off by the "I serve chips" line... don't pull an RTD and use food as an attempt to make a character seem "normal"), and it looks we have a lot of new aliens and such to look forward to.

Unfortunately, it looks like Frank Cottrell-Boyce really is writing an episode about emoji robots. I might need a few drinks for that episode.

My worry about the trailer is that, in different episodes, the brief bits of Bill are bloody annoying.

Donna started off that way and developed into a great and heart-breaking character....Bill just looks permanently irritating.

I'm not a great fan md the super hero genre anyway so I did think it was going to be a hard watch for me.

a good start with some scary scenes about the brains but it was very light weight quite smaltzy towards the end which I suppose it isn't surprising considering it's Christmas but I think Peter Capaldi is so much better than this script. not really to my taste overall although I did enjoy the toned down Nardole.

The trailer looks good for series 10 - some interesting stories possibly. Bill's serving chips I wonder what that's all about?

Worst episode of TV ever.

Can't believe people still watch Doctor Who. Anyway, you got what you deserved.

Capaldi needs to be sacked. He is not selling toys to the kids, because he is too geriatric. Get Martin Freeman in.

Donna didn't physically die though, River did (as far as we saw).

I find it amazing that people can't make a distinction between the writing and the acting.

Capaldi is a gtreat actor but he's not cut out for this kind of drivel...perfect in the slightly more serious or intellectual episodes..of which there have been few recently.

Capaldi deserves so much more. He is a great Dr, but is consistently let down by appalling writing and production. I have always defended PC, but I am beginning to think he should have saved himself and jumped the ship. Now he is committed to the next series and I cannot see how that can be good for him. Maybe Chibnell will turn things around?

You think Freeman would contemplate this rubbish?!!?

Slumming it in Cardiff making sub-standard kids telly or working for Marvel in the States with BJs on tap and more money than even his ex would know what to do with. Tough decision.

Not seen it yet. Following that awful trailer this year was the First time in 10 years that I decided not to take myself away from the Christmas fun and go and watch it live. Glad I made the right decision then after reading these comments.

Indeed he does and occasionally he gets it and the programme flies as a result. Sadly these moments are few and far between and even more sadly it seems those behind the camera and many of those watching can't differentiate as long as it's called "Doctor Who", then it must all be good.

As opposed to those who seem to think every episode is automatically rubbish??

Moff seems content to churn out lazy half developed Who so he can concentrate on self congratulatory, up its own backside, Sherlock.

Really getting fed up of him now. But I suppose, with an end date in sight he can just get away with anything.

Chibnall will have to sort out the mess that's left.

Well I liked it...

A fun 1 hour special for Christmas, nothing amazing but a solid entertaining watch. There was some good lines but also some typical bad moffat-y ones, but overall it was written pretty good I think.

Though I found Matt Lucas's character to be completely unnecessary, my worry that he was going to be shoe horned in and feel out of place came true and doesn't bode well for me looking towards series 10, my knock on the episode would be that characters inclusion, but he wasn't bad enough or in it enough to spoil the episode, it was more just a little annoyance.

This is the same negativity we get with every Xmas special I swear
They are always naff, each one just has a different level of naffness. RTDs ones were god awful as well.
Personally I would rather they scrap Xmas special altogether as it does not really reflect the show as a whole.
Personally i thought tonights one was alright, but I do like the superhero genre.

All the while patting himself on the back for making a mess of someone else's superior creations. I wonder if he can appreciate the sabotage he perpetrates as he goes about his daily business?

Who are these people?
During the last series it seemed like the same people posted "this episode is dreadful" or wtte every single week, often several times during each episode

I haven't watched it properly yet because I'm in a crowded room with family. But I liked a lot of what I saw.

But. Still feel as disenchanted from the show as ever. Probably because I don't have the time to watch the DVds regularly so keeping up with what's what is tricky.

Every Christmas special? This is weekly whenever a Doctor Who series airs. Every episode is the "worst bit of TV to ever grace their screens".
