How can anyone follow an episode of a TV drama while they're busy being keyboard warriors posting on an internet forum throughout the episode?
I can walk and chew gum at the same time too.

If the programme's good enough, complex enough and warrants undivided attention you might have a point but when it's garbage, like this was, there's no downside to posting alongside.

I imagine I gave it more attention watching it than Moffat did writing it.

Sometimes I feel like Steven Moffat just picked PC just because, instead of him actually knowing what hes going to do with him.
Agree completely
tonight just confirmed it more than ever. What should have been PC taking the lead
he again seemed to be pushed down the line, If the same happens in series 10.

The superhero element actually worked and how he became one. It just got bogged down an a Movie 24 made for TV romance, If BBC America did fund a lot of this episode
really hope it was worth it, Because the British feel of this tonight was zero.

On the comments on why people post when the shows still going.
when you step in dog poo you know straight away. It was actually going really well
until have the brain room reveal. It just seemed to trail into a million parts
and instead of that storyline carrying on, Just like PC'd doctor everything gave way for the romance part.

Matt lucas really is going to be like Neelix isn't he? Everyone wondering WTF he's doing there and what is the point of him.

The BBC doesn't care a jot what you, I or Twitter think. Our opinions are worthless. Three things matter and they are ratings, AIs and critical acclaim from professional reviewers. It doesn't matter that random nobodies on Twitter (again, including myself) didn't like it. It matters far more what Diana Tory of the Daily Mail thinks and she loved it.

Moffat is going to be far more interested (and very pleased) with the actual critical response to this episode than he will be in mine, yours or Terry from Devon's opinion.

Apt comparison and coincidentally exactly what people think whenever his erstwhile partner, Walliams pops up in......anything.

I feel like hes just another outlet for SM to shove more of his contrived quirks and quips into the show, with no real relevance other than that.

Well, you can't pretend these things don't make an impression. Hartnell's wig, Tom Baker's curls, not to mention his scarf... It was most telling to me when Frank Skinner guest starred alongside Capaldi that they made him wear a hat the entire time, otherwise it would have looked like a stunt double had wandered into shot. So yeah, I think Twelve makes for pretty underwhelming cosplay.
I guess, but I think his hair's been pretty slick for the most part. He had some epic curls going on in S9.

Moffat could shit on a plate and most TV critics would stand up and applaud. He's just flavour of the month with his fellow Islington luvvies.

I only saw a few negative tweets. Most were to do with Sherlock or generally positive tweets when I did a search. But still, if it makes everyone feel better about hating the show at the moment, go ahead!
Same here, I'm not seeing this supposed heap of hate on Twitter and I can't help feeling there's a little exaggeration going on here. If anything, most of the internet outside of DS seems fairly happy with the episode.

I spent more time than I should have wondering how they could get away with doing head-unzipping aliens again so soon, even picturing Jami Reid-Quarrell as one, before I realised I was thinking of the final episode of Farscape (which I rewatched through on Pick last year).

Considering TV critics will give due praise to shows like Breaking Bad and Firefly, where the general audience would rather watch stuff like The X-Factor and Eastenders, I know who I'm more inclined to agree with.

Anyhow, not so bad, by Christmas special standards, a lot better than I feared from the synopsis. Started well, and didn't fritter all the good will earned by that start.

Save reading the thread for later but I found that utterly charming with lots of chuckles. Nice bit of Christmas entertainment, So there! Capaldi doesn't miss a beat and warming to Nardole.
I was pleasantly surprised by the Nardole character too, he's taken on the role as a sort of batman. No, not the DC comics caped vigilante type but the butler, right-hand man type you used to get in the army or air force.

Not good enough, considering the show has been away for a whole year. I feel as though S10 is gonna be a real drag to get through, Moffat is just completely out of ideas.

I wasn't expecting to enjoy that episode so for the first time since 2005, I didn't watch this Christmas special at the
same time it was being broadcast, and have just finished watching it on my YouView box. and I thought it was OK.

Certainly nowhere near as bad as a lot of folks on this thread are making it out to be, especially those that were
calling it an anagram of carp while the episode was still on. How can anyone follow an episode of a TV drama
while they're busy being keyboard warriors posting on an internet forum throughout the episode?

Did anyone else notice a subtle nod to BBC Radiophonic Workshop style incidental music during one scene ... ?
I thought there were a few nods to the Radiophonic Workshop too. The whole episode was an American superhero story with the Doctor tacked on.

Moaning Minnies on This Thread , I thought it was a Fantastic Episode , Great Story , Capaldi firing on all cylinders and the Nardole Character calmed down and will be a great Alien Foil for the Doctor 10/10

Yeah, found it encouraging for next series. His little speech at the end about River Song and talking about The Doctor as a "brave and silly man" who he's going to see right was very well played, I thought.

Well I was dreading it and thought it would be awful but I loved it.

Am now looking forward to the new series and have high hopes for it.

I love being proved wrong in circumstances like this one 😊

I clicked the link and there was just tweet after tweet of unbridled hatred. Some of it aimed at Peter Capaldi too. It was quite a surprise.

Nice to see the tolerant folk on Gallifrey Base loved the episode (genuine posts):

Red Ripper of Rassilon:

Absolute total crap. Not only the worst Christmas special but just about the worst story ever made. Total excrement. As I can't give it 0/10 it'll have to be 1.
The melkur of Rassilon:

Honestly believe this is not only the worst doctor who episodes since Time and the Rani. But also one of the worst things the BBC has transmitted in 2016. Simply awful. This final Moffat season is a huge mistake . It will kill the brand. The trailer looked awful as well. 0 out of 10. Would give it a negative if possible

Some positive reviews too (to be fair). Oh to be a Doctor Who fan is to love and to hate.
