The BBC doesn't care a jot what you, I or Twitter think. Our opinions are worthless. Three things matter and they are ratings, AIs and critical acclaim from professional reviewers. Moffat is going to be far more interested (and very pleased) with the actual critical response to this episode than he will be in mine, yours or Terry from Devon's opinion.

Same here, I'm not seeing this supposed heap of hate on Twitter and I can't help feeling there's a little exaggeration going on here. If anything, most of the internet outside of DS seems fairly happy with the episode.

I spent more time than I should have wondering how they could get away with doing head-unzipping aliens again so soon, even picturing Jami Reid-Quarrell as one, before I realised I was thinking of the final episode of Farscape (which I rewatched through on Pick last year).

Considering TV critics will give due praise to shows like Breaking Bad and Firefly, where the general audience would rather watch stuff like The X-Factor and Eastenders, I know who I'm more inclined to agree with.

Anyhow, not so bad, by Christmas special standards, a lot better than I feared from the synopsis. Started well, and didn't fritter all the good will earned by that start.

I was pleasantly surprised by the Nardole character too, he's taken on the role as a sort of batman. No, not the DC comics caped vigilante type but the butler, right-hand man type you used to get in the army or air force.

Not good enough, considering the show has been away for a whole year. I feel as though S10 is gonna be a real drag to get through, Moffat is just completely out of ideas.

I thought there were a few nods to the Radiophonic Workshop too. The whole episode was an American superhero story with the Doctor tacked on.

Moaning Minnies on This Thread , I thought it was a Fantastic Episode , Great Story , Capaldi firing on all cylinders and the Nardole Character calmed down and will be a great Alien Foil for the Doctor 10/10

Yeah, found it encouraging for next series. His little speech at the end about River Song and talking about The Doctor as a "brave and silly man" who he's going to see right was very well played, I thought.

Well I was dreading it and thought it would be awful but I loved it.

Am now looking forward to the new series and have high hopes for it.
