1p Mobile - Anyone heard of this?!
I saw it posted in a thread on Moneysaving Expert forums - and if they're up and running, this is good for low users! Everything a penny and they run off EE:

Those 1p calls will probably end up costing a lot more when your unused credit disappears on day 30. Just checked their website: Quote:
You can top-up from just £5 and each top-up lasts 30 days. If you use all your top-up you can still receive calls and texts until the 30 days have finished, or you can top-up again for another 30 days of calls, texts and data.

I suspect they're trying essentially trick people in to thinking it would be an ideal tariff for low users - which it isn't.

They probably will, credit only lasts 30 days before expiring and you need a minimum £5 top up per month to keep your number active,

That's not good at all - especially if someone is infrequent with their top ups. As for it lasting, the jury is out.

Another MVNO that clearly won't last.
Their website reminds me quite suspiciously of Delight Mobile's site before it was revamped. I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if the company running this operation has something to do with the crooks at Mundio. |

Might sound cheap on the surface but looking at Life Mobiles £4-95p 30 day sim its hellish expensive because no matter how you used your 600 minutes or 5,000 texts or 500 Mb it would never cost more than £4-95p and in fact if you used all that amount on the bases of a penny for everything the Life Mobile deal using all your allowance would cost the equivalent of £61 with the 1p deal.

Who uses 5000 texts in a month?
Point taken though- the Life mobile deal is cheaper. |

I agree that Life mobile is cheaper but remember that's a 30 day contact not payg
if you don't top the payg sim up you don't get any service where you have to pay the life contract every month or until you give 30 day notice. If you want payg then go with Three if you get a signal where you live you don't have to top-up every month if you don't want to. |

I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if the company running this operation has something to do with the crooks at Mundio. I have chosen not to give 1pMobile a first class listing on my PAYG site. Having to pay a minimum amount each month excludes them. I do grant them that they do not bind a user into a contract. That means that a valid credit rating is not a prerequisite. They also allow a mix of call minutes, texts and data usage each month rather than impose a fixed limit on each. I was in two minds as to whether Delight and Vectone should also be excluded from my PAYG listings because of the 90 day expiry of regular top-up credit. I let them remain but flag up a warning. 1pMobile are a step too far with their 30 day expiry. -- Pete Forman https://payg-petef.rhcloud.com/ |

I cannot see any direct connection between 1pMobile and Mundio. Delight and Vectone have very similar T&C to each other but 1pMobile are different.

Came across this thread yesterday and went to have a look at the site and they are offering a double credit promotion at the moment. I entered my average monthly usage of 350MB, 100 minutes and 30 texts and on current offer it says for initial top up of £30 I will get my 100 minutes, 20 text messages and 350MB of data per month, for 12 months and still have 30p spare each month to spend on calls, texts or data as I choose. That works out at just £2.50 a month, which seems like a sweet deal to me. Quote:

From what I can make out (I stand to be corrected) if you do top up larger than £5 they only apply £5 to your phone at a time and add the next £5 either when you run out of credit or after 30 days, whichever comes first. Which is pretty much like buying a bundle elsewhere but without the allocation restrictions or high out of bundle prices. |

I don't understand this comment. You add £5 and then make 50 minutes of calls during the 30 days, at the end of the period the whole £5 disappears meaning those calls actually cost 500p / 50 min = 10p per minute... |

The minimum top of is presumably £5 and you lose that after 30 days is I assume the point?
I wonder what kind of support and features 1p mobile will offer, do we really live in the age where people don't want a reasonable data plan for a mobile? a minimum of 1GB to be able to use a smartphone? I understand that 20% of people don't have a smartphone, I guess it is aimed at the? or just the incredibly tight? I have visions of the people who charge visitors to their house 5p for a cup of tea. |

Come on, it's basic maths...

I agree, if you're someone who only makes 50p worth of calls a month and don't use your phone for anything else, it definitely wouldn't make sense. Personally I don't know anyone who uses their phone so little, but don't argue they exist

I gather you are still quite young and only associate with others in your age group? There are millions of users out there that probably don't use 50 min in 6 months...

![]() I have to make calls to the bank, the garage, ordering things etc as well as friends and family and I don't do it on my landline because its 11p per minute and each call has a set-up charge of 19p. so that 30p for a 1 minute call. A lot of people I know use their mobiles now instead of landline as its cheaper. I totally agree though that for people who only make a few calls, this would not be a good deal. I was simply talking about my own usage, which I don't think is that uncommon. |
