First look at the Christmas Special.
This was shown at the NYCC.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hBpN9FSUIDY It's not a trailer, because that will be shown after the Children In Need sneak peak. |

Look we've had Christmas specials with Robot Santas, giant spiders, homicidal mechanical angels, Cybershades/CyberKing, Skeletor Master, flying sharks, wooden people, killer snowmen, wooden Cybermen, Santa Claus and crap robots.
A superhero looks less cheesy by companion to be honest. |

A superhero looks less cheesy by companion to be honest. That's my optimistic side talking, though. My pessimistic side is saying "not another Christmas special". :P |

There is sometimes a twist. I wouldn't be surprised if the superhero was a 'confused' alien. Much like the 'next Doctor' wasn't the next Doctor.

Looks like a bit of fun to me which is exactly what I want from a Dr Who Christmas special. Have to confess I'd forgotten we were getting one this year so I'm feeling quite excited now.

I think that the Superhero is a human turned alien due to some alien technology or something enhancing his physical attributes and giving him supernatural powers. Similar to what Camera said, he might be under some sort of mental or psychic control making him think hes one or maybe not.

Hmm. not sure what to make of this. Like the superhero element, and it makes me wonder if there will be some rivalry, given that the Doctor is generally the hero in his life. Don't so much like the look of the American-ness, and the fact that that a child seems possibly a prominent character, but, at the end of the day, if those things can be weaved into a good script I'll be happy. Overall I'm optimistic. The Doctor and a superhero certainly seems an interesting dynamic. Quote:

![]() I did wonder what he thought of last years Christmas special, because one of the last conversations I had with him on here, I remember he was so strongly anti-RIver, that I asked him what he would do if it were announced she was returning, to which he remarked, something along the lines that he would likely 'smash his laptop up in anger'. |

Why does the Christmas Day episode have to be 'different'? Is it too much to ask that we get a' normal ' story? Sit-coms normally have a Christmas episode, but Dr Who isn't a sit-com. It's become a parody of itself, but not a comedy.

Its already made the news:

I'm surprised Marvel never did a Doctor Who/superhero cross over comic. Perhaps with Spider-Man or Reed Richards.

A couple of years ago we had Santa show up. Before that we've had flying sharks, John Simm in drag and flying replicas of the titanic. It's safe to say that all bets are off when it comes to how zany a Christmas special can be. A man wearing a cape is actually relatively tame I think.

For me, they've yet to top the spinning killing Christmas Tree from the 2005 special.

It is sort of like The Simpsons' Halloween Specials "The Tree House of Horror"; it has become tradition that it follows a different rules than all of the other episodes. Is that a bad thing? Not necessarily. I say, for once a year, let's just have some silly fun! (Except for The Doctor, The Widow and The Wardrobe which needs to be removed from existence by any means possible.)
Is it a drama or a light entertainment show? Or is it aimed at children? I don't agree with Dr Who having 'silly fun' at Christmas, there are plenty of programmes to do that. I don't see Star Wars or Star Trek having a 'silly' Christmas episode. |
