Is it a drama or a light entertainment show? Or is it aimed at children? I don't agree with Dr Who having 'silly fun' at Christmas, there are plenty of programmes to do that. I don't see Star Wars or Star Trek having a 'silly' Christmas episode.

Oh my sweet lord.Heard of it, never seen it. (Loved the first 2 SW films as a kid; got into Who before the third and lost interest after that, tbh) That's really, um, hard to find the words, ermmm....interesting? |

Neither of them currently have a T.V. show, I believe.
Doctor Who is not, and should never be, just for the adults. And the audience at Christmas is an entirely different type of audience. |

And they are not the same type of show. Doctor Who is a science fantasy show, not hard sci-fi which is what both Star Trek and Star Wars are. And as has been poiitned out, Star Wars did indeed have a Holiday Special that was incredibly frivolous.

Don't think I've ever seen someone call Star Wars Hard Sci-fi before, it's the very definition of Science Fantasy.

I own this on bootleg DVD. It is so awful. We watch it for bad movie night every couple of years for Christmas (it usually alternates with Santa Claus Conquers the Martians).

Superheroes have never interested me so to hear the title and kind of premise for the episode, I'm not exactly enthralled.
However, DW Christmas Specials should be light, fluffy and fun, so if its that then i'll be okay. Last year's was certainly that and a welcome return from the dark, depressing Xmas fest the year before. Even Matt's last episode had more fun in its than Peter's first Christmas ep. It needs to appeal to the widest audience possible so even though I'm not interested in superheroes, I accept many will be. It might be a draw. The guy playing him is a good actor, just not a big enough draw though. To me, Christmas specials need guest casts with one big standout name. I await it with some trepidation though. If it's better than the likes of Series 8 and 9, then I'll be happy. If its like them, oh dear... |

Looks like a bit of fun to me which is exactly what I want from a Dr Who Christmas special. Have to confess I'd forgotten we were getting one this year so I'm feeling quite excited now.

For me, they've yet to top the spinning killing Christmas Tree from the 2005 special.
Also it introduced the New New Doctor in the best way possible, Born Again on Christmas Day Miss the Tylers and Mickey the Idiot. I'll always be forever amazed watching Christopher Eccleston change faces like he did onscreen.

Dalekbuster would be so proud. Shame.
I was completely stumped when a friend sent me this Tweet link of his from a few days ago:https://twitter.com/WhoPotterVian/st...86663430389760 Good god, fella, watch some Torchwood then if you fancy watching some previously unseen moments of your man-crush! With regards to the Christmas Special, he's not happy about a superhero being in a Christmastime story as superheroes aren't 'connected' to Christmas. His alternative suggestion was a full hour of the Doctor and Jack exchanging Christmas presents and watching their reactions. I kid you not. That's almost as brilliant as the 9th Doctor Who movie with the fireball clip on a loop. |

While I'll conceded it's not in the same vein as Star Trek, it is nothing like the fantasy levels of Doctor Who.
![]() Not something I agree with. Quote:
The Star Trek franchise created by Gene Roddenberry is considered an example of science fantasy. Writer James F. Broderick describes Star Trek as science fantasy because it includes semi-futuristic as well as supernatural/fantasy elements such as The Q.[3]
According to the science fiction author Arthur C. Clarke, many purists argue that Star Trek is science fantasy rather than science fiction because of its scientifically improbable elements, which he partially agrees with.[4] |
