He just seemed out of place on what are usually all female events?

He's her good friend and soon to be brother in law. It's also the 21st Century. Its not that uncommon at all to have your close friends at your hen do I wouldnt have thought.

No, he isn't friendly with her in the slightest. They made a mistake a long time ago that he's probably regretted ever since.

As for Johnny, maybe him and Whitney aren't restricted by typical gender stereotypes? They are close friends and that's what important.

But are Johnny and Whitney actually that close friends and would they be if she didn't happen to work in his parents pub, maybe he was just there for that little scene of Les and Pam watching him out of the window wouldn't be the first time EE have done the oh so contrived plot device moment.

Weren't they best mates as she fancied him *played by Sam. There seems to be a disconnect between the new Johnny and the audience.

They are definitely close. Certainly closer than Whitney is with the likes of Tina and Kim who were also there.

The moment between Pam and Johnny was lovely and not contrived in the slightest, IMO.

They have been bffs since they sorted out the matter of her fancying him! Way b4 Lee came along so not strange at all for him to be there !

Would have been strange were he not imho!!

Well it wouldn't have happened had Johnny not been there so definitely contrived for that twee little moment.

The thing is though, since he got his new head they haven't seemed like close friends at all

They live in the same house. Its a bit silly to suggest they haven't seemed close until last night.

He makes me cringe. The acting is PAINFUL to watch.

He is cute though so I sort of give him a free pass

Thing is he was brilliant in Casualty where he played a boy who was transgender.

Because it's custom to have a token gay at hen parties now

I suspect that is nearer the truth along with the contrived twee scene of Pam and Les looking at him and waving, probably thinking if only Paul had hooked up with you instead of that nut-job Mitchell he would still be alive now.

You do understand how scripts work? They're based on what you describe as 'contrivances' in order to facilitate plot and character. What you're calling a contrivance is merely a moment that symbolised Pam's feelings at that time. They could have done it whether Johnny attended the hen party or not.

Because gay men can go to hen's night and lesbian women also can go to stag's night. My sister's best friend who is a gay, he join us in hen night two years ago, he also go to stag night as well.

Spot on. Can't believe it took this many posts for someone to get it. Nothing to do with how close Johnny and Whitney are meant to be. They're not. He's gay so he gets to join the women to gossip about men. It's a simple as that.

Whit and Johnny have been friends since she first fancied him. Do people even watch?

So if you suspect that is nearer the truth why didn't you say so earlier? this is clearly the direction you wanted the thread heading into. I had a feeling there was whiff of homophobia in the air before I even clicked on the topic.

Nonsense, he had to attend the hen party otherwise he would have had no reason to be outside when Pam and Les looked out.

Except they are. If they haven't seemed close since he returned it's because the writing for Johnny has been terrible for months now and it's only in the past few weeks that he's been written as a real person again and not a cipher. Whit and Johnny have always been good friends and it's nice that they've finally remembered that. And as for having him there to gossip about men - if that's why they had him there then why didn't they show that?

Oh here we go again, nothing to do with homophobia so cut that nonsense out.

Don't be silly. There could have been any other number of reasons why Pam saw him looking happy and serving as a reminder of Paul. He didn't have to be at the hen party to do that.

Then that would have been a totally different scene and not at that precise moment.
