We need a new subject, so what's your perfect showdance music?

Mine would be Try a Little Tenderness.
Originally by Otis Reading but I prefer the version from the soundtrack of the film The Committments
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IoM6dBOUlIU

I'm rubbish at matching music to dance styles, but this could be great.
Starts off slow, maybe some Rhumba.
Then it speeds up so hopefully we can shoehorn some waltz in there.
The off beat could maybe have a bit of foxtrot.
Then Boom
Full on chachacha and incredible lifts.

Trouble is, it's 4.30 long so we'd be too tired to do the lifts at the end...

LoveWave

It starts off slow and soft, then the lomg siren parts come in where the dancing starts going nuts, crazy, insane and then BOOM! The drop! Then it turns into a weird yet awesome Argentine-Tango-ish dance.

I'm tempted to go for Wuthering Heights and pile on the Kate Bush dancing ridiculousness but I prefer to dance faster dances so hmmm I'm not sure really. As long as I can have a glitter cannon ...

One of my favourite tracks at the moment is The Sound of Silence by Disturbed. It's very dark and menacing, so I would have lots of wafting about in black, a bit of tarting and finishing with some stomping and whooshy lifts.

I'd probably have to be more sensible, but I'd be sorely tempted to pick Agadoo...

Full on contempowafty rumba-y, waltzy thingy (no, I can't match music and dance, either) to Thank You by Led Zep ...

I'm a sucker for waltzes, so I'd have to pick something in 3/4 time.

Time in a Bottle by Jim Croce, with a stripped-back arrangement.

Me in a floaty dress, wafting around looking angsty as the song starts in a minor key.

Then, beaming angelically as the key changes to major, Aljaz sweeps me into hold and we fleckerl to the end of time ...

I would love to see this (being the silly one that I am)!

Depends on the other dances I do in the Final.

If I need a slow Showdance: Strange And Beautiful, by Aqualung (Contempo-Waltz, lots of drama, a bit creepy)

If I need an energetic Showdance: Skip To The Good Bit, by Rizzle Kicks (Quickstep/Samba/Salsa, lots of attitude, I cough up a lung at the end)

If I need a dramatic Showdance: The Time Is Now, by Moloko (Tango/Paso Doble/Rumba/Argentine Tango, lots of brooding looks, my partner is wearing lots of dark lace)

If I need an elegant Showdance: 1234, by Feist (American Smooth Foxtrot, lots of modern Fred'n'Ginge, very much an Exercise In Ballroom Frame)

Hmm, think I'd have some sort of Blues Brothers mash up - a bit of Shake Your Tail Feather, Gimme Some Lovin' and Everybody Needs Somebody. No idea what I'd dance to it but that never usually stops me after a few glasses of wine...

Try a Little Tenderness is much older than the OP said.

Quote:
“"Try a Little Tenderness" is a song written by Jimmy Campbell, Reg Connelly and Harry M. Woods. It was first recorded on December 8, 1932, by the Ray Noble Orchestra (with vocals by Val Rosing)”

That'll teach me not to fact check.

Mind you, this is DS so "facts" are whatever you want them to be

A George Benson double starting with an American Smooth to This Masquerade and then ending with Give Me The Night with cha cha and salsa type party moves.

I'd choose a medley of Queen songs - a bit of We will rock you at the beginning with some contempo tricks and lifts, a bit of rumba to the slow part of Bohemian Rhapsody and finishing off with some jiving to Crazy Little Thing Called Love.

I can't dance a step btw, so no idea whether this would all work!

There's a track (either number 3 or4) on My Chemical Romance's 'Black Parade' album that I think would be great for a paso.

Mine would be either Riverdance for a Quickstep-Paso Doble dance. Or a Tango-Disco-Salsa dance to Cher's Believe

Don't Stop Me Now (Queen, as if you didn't know )

To a Quickstep.

Riverdance is forever etched in my memory as the most spine-tingling dance moment, both when I saw it the night it was first performed on TV and when I saw it live several years later

At the end of this piece there is some wonderful flamenco–Celtic fusion that would be great for a Paso showdance.

I do too, CatO

Love the whole Riverdance show, it has a real mix of dance styles, not just Irish dancing.
