Where people think they are really animals or something. There's also 'fictionkin' where people think they're fictional characters.

I think Gio and Laura are just friends. People said stuff about Pasha and Caroline .. and before Caroline .. Kimberley. Not many people (if anyone) said anything about Pasha and Rachel. You have to have a good working relationship with your dance partner. You're going to be upside down with your gusset in his face about ten days after being introduced. It's a sort of fast track friendship. If the two people involved are particularly beautiful then the rumour mill starts. We read too much into it though. We shouldn't sink to the Daily Mail's level ”

I think they are represented by the same model agency? Also Daisy? So they are probably friends for jobs and PR purposes and some of that may spill over into real life?

I thought it started with Kirk/Spock on Star Trek all that time ago

I'm not sure they are but I think it is more of a PR thing yes.

It sounds like a westernised Native American thing really. I'll probably have a spider for my spirit guide because my occasional hypnopompic hallucination (stares round impressively) is a spider

shipping means people discussing supposedly "ideal" relationSHIPS. Apparently the term originated among teens.

This thread is a bit like a written version of "elders react to .... "

On topic though, Laura and Gio make an attractive couple; I can understand why those inclined to be shippers would do so in their case.

I'd think if they did hook up it would be kept private this time around.

It really ISN'T a teen or social media term. It comes from fandoms of TV and films etc and has been around for 20+ years. It really isn't a new term but if you don't get involved in the online presence for shows then it's unlikely you'd have heard it because it hasn't moved out of that sphere.

It's definitely not a Facebook term, I've never used Facebook and it's not confined to teens. As you say It has been used for up to around twenty years on forums discussing drama etc. Anyway, I understand that some people (many) don't like the term, but Its' use doesn't mean DS is descending into text speak.

I admit I thought that it was more well known than it turned out to be. There are quite a few abbreviations that I didn't get when I first read them here on the Strictly forum, but I soon work them out. Language is fluid and evolves and as long as posts are clear in other ways then I can't really see a big problem.

Anyhoo (oops-sorry bad habit, I mean anyway back OT, my Sunday perusal of the Fail tells me that Laura is not keen on those shipping rumours herself.
