I know there are already threads about this but I thought the show deserved a thread with this title.

I loved that scene where Pam waved to Johnny on Whitney's hen night. Such a beautiful scene. The show has been so enjoyable, better than all the other soaps by miles.

I know

Its like an old friend has returned from a decade long vacation. I genuinely can't remember being this in love with EE since the Santer days.

it's been very good, but what is literally shocking is the amount of times "literally" is used unnecessarily or incorrectly by English speakers.

The usage of the word "literally" has been updated in the Oxford dictionary to mean literally and non-literally. So you're literally the one in the wrong here.

Some scenes have even been beautiful though - the Pam/Johnny scene mainly. Also Ben making a speech in the Vic.

I have to agree it is like a old friend returning some life lovely touches like pam waving to Johnny and dot outside the launderette it has more of a community-based feel now like back in the day .long may it continue .and the stupid fasicle story lines like who killed lucy remain in the bin where they belong

This literally reminds me of Rob Lowe's character in Parks and Recreation who literally uses the word literally, literally every sentence

It has been very good lately.

No murders, no car crashes, no explosions, just good basic stories, character interaction and community. The type of stuff that made us love EastEnders and I will admit had been lost of late. Dominic Treadwell Collins was all about "event" stories, but you can exhaust a show and I think the end of his tenure, the show was exhausted.

I like that SOC is making his changes and letting the work speak for itself. We don't properly know what his vision is, but so far it definitely seems to involve bringing EastEnders back to earth a bit and restoring character connections. Not every scene needs to be part of a big story, characters don't need to be always unpleasant or short with each other.

Yes, the world has changed since the those days of 1985's Walford, but there is no reason why the community can't be kept.

I look forward to what Sean's big plans are.

The actors finally look comfortable and able to do something with the script. Makes you realise how bad it has been!

As opposed to being magically fixed overnight. Honestly, why is it every post I see from you is a poisonous mix of negativity and stupidity?

I agree Edward, I've found the show really enjoyable this week. I'd given up on EastEnders after the one good episode to come of Lucy Beale's death (the immediate aftermath) was followed by contrived bulldust for months and months on end, but the writing and characterisation recently has been real old-school. It's like the show is ascending from the tabloid bollocks that it was, to broadsheet

Such a delight and every episode is fantastically written and well acted. SOC's next test will really be how his first xmas goes.

I don't expect any constructive criticism from somebody who slags off the show relentlessly, but I think you are completely wrong on this. What we saw with Santer and DTC was papering over the cracks: they used sensationalism and hype to distract from the glaring problems at the heart of the show, namely the lack of realism and poor characterisation. SOC has gone back to basics and has focused on improving and developing solid, believable characters so that when drama arises the audience actually cares what happens to them. We feel invested in the characters and see them as 'real people' rather than storylines dressed up as characters.

How is that user allowed to get away with it? there is a rule about baiting and constructive posting that I think he breaks every time.

I loved the screen last week when Stacy & Martin were moving house & few of the cast were sitting outside the house on the sofa having a can of beer, just having a joke with each other, & in the background you could see a couple of kids playing foottball, it just reminded me of the early days of EE.

I'd say it was the complete opposite tbh. Papering over the cracks would be to come in and instantly throw the sensational storylines at us to try and make viewers forget the tripe we've been served over the last few years. All that does is pulls in short term viewers, and has a long lasting effect on the long term viewers and the show in general. (Who killed Lucy)
By giving us character driven/kitchen sink drama, SOC is relaying the foundations of the show, which will give him and his team something to build on. You can't build a stable wall without foundations, and the same applies for a TV show.
Patience is the key here. I have high hopes for Sean's reign on EastEnders.

The Mods will only take action if something is reported. They take a reactive rather than proactive stance simply because there are far too many posts and they cannot read all of them.

I just hope we dont get any more ridiculous scenes where the council or someone does something the community doesnt like. In turn this causes the whole market to protest and eventually get what they want. They have a 100% success rate and irl the council wouldnt give in because a group of people kick off every time
