....sublime.

Its no exaggeration to say that the routine felt like a 'mini film' to me. That 90 or so seconds seemed to go on forever - and more power to it! Lovely to see Jo finally getting some well-deserved praise.

Go Jo!!!

...non-existent?

(CLUE: Most pro-partners stopped choreographing almost ALL dances approximately 8 years ago... not that anyone around here ever seems to accept/notice/believe or care about such trivialities, but there you have it... American Smooth is not even part of 10-Dance, which makes it even more likely that my answer is correct. So, what do I win? A bunch of sour grapes! Oh, cheers...)

. . . not deserving of its own thread.

Why some people get so over-excited over a bland song . . .

You've shared your thoughts on the song...did you find the choreography of the routine 'bland' also?

Wonderful, brilliant choreo by Jo, very well danced by Ore.
Just fabulous.
Best dance of the night for me.

... ooh, so attention-seeking, who-does-she-think-she-is, I really her, next year she should be partnered with someone with a BYPASS, sheneverwearsherdressesproperlygodwhatisthatinyellow,...

I'm not a fan of hers, I find her irritating. But fair do, that dance was beautiful and amazing. She is very talented and very knowledgeable about dance. When she stood in for Karen on ITT I found her more interesting than Karen. I think she would make an excellent judge and certainly, an excellent choreographer for the show

...the best choreography she's done on the show to date.

She managed to take all the iconic elements of the film's dance - without which the routine would have felt "cheated" IYSWIM - and adapt them into a 90 second snapshot that had enough original/fresh content to make it feel like a clever and fitting homage rather than a slavish copy.

It reminded me of the way Aliona choreographed her & Jay's jive with the key PF bits included (albeit I think the latter had more "wow factor"/impact" because it was more unexpected - dancing to Singin' in the Rain gives you a head start in the "iconic dance" stakes!)

I agree. I think she works well with Ore.

Well, whoever choreographed it did a good job.

Showed off Ore to excellent advantage.

Very "Tom Chambers". Which, in my book, isn't a bad thing.

Didn't Len say that makes it more difficult because it has been done so many times so hard to put a new twist on it which she definitely did.

Oh absolutely, I don't disagree. I was just comparing my differing levels of expectation/impact of dancing to the different songs. Jay's jive was (for me) a proper "wow, where did THAT come from?!" moment as I went in with low expectations, whereas with Ore I was more "I love this song and this film, do it justice, don't screw up, oh good for him he nailed it, fab choreo Jo" if you see the difference?

It was a lovely dance and deserved themarks but IMO the only new twist on it was that they had to dance as a pair at some point in the dance

the parts where Ore was dancing by himself may as well been ripped from the movie, thats why it felf so familiar

I think it was Ore's characterization and dancing that made it good more than the choreography

I thought it was wonderful in every respect. Also really envious how good she looked in that vibrant yellow. Not an easy colour for someone with fair colouring to carry off.

a relief! I was beginning to doubt her choreography skills, although if it's true that the pros don't choreograph all of the routines anyway, then someone else deserves the credit

Really good, I have expected her to take the blame for her shocking choreography to date so can appreciate this.

I think the pros have a lot to do with choreography, you can recognise a Natalie routine anywhere as you can an Anton.

Janette simply couldn't do anything well other than Latin and Kevin always throws in the kitchen sink.

I think they have others in to help with AT and charleston, but I don't think for other dances except for differing bits like Bollywood for Karen this week.

A bland song?

So you don't like it?

It's a timeless classic song eminently suitable for ballroom dancing.
There's over 30M hits on it on YouTube and it's been covered by the "World and his Wife."
The song itself is now eighty-seven years old.

It was "Movie Night" for cryin' out loud and Joanne created a fantastic tribute to the performance by Gene Kelly in the film of the same name. How could anyone not appreciate that and the superb choreography and Ore's and Joanne's dancing? She made it "all about him" and not about her as do some professionals.

As a song, I think it'll last a bit longer than anything by "Little Mix."

No matter what they said, not very original

Doh!
It wasn't supposed to be original. It was a tribute, with some classic Gene Kelly elements.

Watch the video.

I thought it was brilliant.

As I understand it the pros choreograph all their own routines except for Charleston, AT and Salsa which they get outside help for.

Excellent.

Joanne has seemed prone to quirky choreography in the past, and I like her quirky personality, but think she should show her teaching skills, Ore's ability to learn to dance, and then bring that out in the choreography - which is what she did this time.
