An absolute joy to watch!! Loved how emotional Ore got after it too!! There's a lot more to this guy than what we've seen so far & I hope they are around for the duration!! One of my favourite couples this year!!

Joanne's 'Movie Night' choreography was....(FILL IN THE MISSING WORD/S)

forgettable

for me, personally

all I can remember is Jo's awful yellow dress with what looked like a raincoat over the top and an umbrella - oh, and Ore crying

sorry - it didnt do it for me

....at last the right platform for all her stagey tweeness.

Given I've found her last two dances stagey & twee, and given I love Singin' In The Rain, she pulled off an amazing job to make me really like this dance.
As others have said, she had huge boots to fill (pun not intended) and high expectations to meet, which she did.
On first viewing I only quite liked it. I've since re-watched it 4 or 5 times and now I'm close to loving it.
I was slightly nervous for Ore that he would drop the umbrella at the end, as he had done in rehearsals, and then became transfixed by the fact that he caught it on the exact final beat of the music. Small things...
I so want Ore to do well, and I hope this is his breakthrough dance.

Aww, God bless you milly! Glad you like them.

I see them as an 'original' way to get people talking...which is the general idea here!

You've entirely missed the reference.

In the film "Singing in the Rain," Debbie Reynolds, Gene Kelly and Donald O'Connor in one scene wore raincoats of exactly that colour!

It was supposed to resemble a raincoat!

Maybe the BBC should have provided some rain for that dance?

Here's what she had to say about it when asked for a comment by a Radio Times journalist:

'I thought it was a beautiful tribute to Gene. He never wanted people to imitate his work. He wanted them to take what he did and create something new. Ore Oduba and Joanne Clifton did this with grace and style. Gene always said that the point of his "Singin' in the Rain" number was to bring joy. Oduba and Clifton achieved this in their own way. It made me smile to know that Gene is still very much present and "alive" in the hearts and minds of very talented young people'.

Not a bad accolade, eh?

a brilliant adaptation for Strictly of the original!

Hats off to Joanne and she deserves all the praise she's getting.

Oh wow- I bet Jo's either unable to breathe now, or she's not stopped crying since she saw this. To have a relative of someone you've idolised your whole life say lovely things about your homage to them is quite something. Bless her

That's beautiful. If Ore's crying didn't bring tears to Jo's eyes then I bet that tribute did.

Well she's certainly gone pretty bonkers on Twitter!

And I see she has the lead role in Thoroughly Modern Millie next year. Well done, Jo. She's the most perfectly poised little dancer - I love watching her.

Wonderful! You wouldn't need to get to the final after that, would you? I hope they do though. How gracious a response. And sooo so living an idea of what dance is. Like a gene-pool exactly! The essence carries on

Far more special, meaningful and personal than a gaudy ol' glitterball at any rate!

Fun fact: Gene Kelly's favourite sport was hockey, and he used hockey movements to inspire some of his choreography. Ore Oduba used to coach hockey. Spooky.

What a lovely and gracious tribute from Patricia Ward Kelly. Well done Jo and Ore.

I was staggered by that . It would have been so easy to get it wrong . Even if he did get it wrong it wouldn't have mattered but for it to come good was the icing on the cake .

Yep- I was ready for him to do an "ah well- I'm happy anyway" shrug if he dropped it, which would sill have been sweet and in keeping, but I'm glad he didn't.

This performance is worth watching several times. All the nuances, Kelly's signature hands in the pocket. It would be easy to miss the "up and down the kerb reference."

I was impressed by wardrobe's effort with Joanne's dress, managing to resemble Debbie Reynolds yellow raincoat in the film and not make it as restrictive, down to a gesture towards the rain hat she wore.

Oh, the full version, thank you.

I'm really hoping the release of emotion triggers something in him that they can take forward. He's been quite brash (in some ways). He's been a guy. But this was so moving and it's fantastic to see he can tap into that other level

in a word - graceful.

People forget that Gene Kelly, although a stocky figure, built more like a boxer, was a really excellent dancer, and many contemporaries felt he far outshone the rather mannered Fred Astaire. His routines were always original, fresh, and beautifully executed. Joanne's movements reminded me a lot of one of Gene's favourite partners, Sid Charysse (I probably spelled that name completely wrong, sorry), she with the mile- long legs.

Surprisingly good after a lot of mediocre choreos she did.
