EE: Why has Lauren become a background character?
Seeing as she was so prominent during her last stint, does anyone find Lauren basically being a background character a bit strange? She's been back for several months now and hasn't really done anything of note, apart from a couple of arguments with Steven and being a confidante to Whitney

Lauren is okay in small doses but she's not that interesting in my opinion. She was featured really heavily for a few years and it was not exactly rivetting television to watch.

Her character has been really crap since she came back. The bulk of her scenes now consist of Lauren just rolling her eyeballs everytime another character speaks. Seriously watch her this week and you will notice it!
I think Jac must be bored stiff cos its like she doesn't want to be there.

Think they are just giving the character time to bed back in.
Sure once Max returns she will become more prominent |

Yeah I've never been a fan of Lauren so I'm not complaining about the lack of screen time

I think they are easing her back into the show slowly and will likely give her a big story in 2017. Her pairing with Steven is poor imo. Zero chemistry at all.

I have said a lot of times before she never works in a relationship she always works better single.
I do think where she fits in at the moment in uncertain . She was previously the young female star of the show but I think Tilly keeper has that role now. Giving her a child was a bad mistake as it limits the character greatly. Maybe they wanted to see her commitment to the show before any longer term story plans. I do think her becoming pregnant in real life changed a lot of story plans in the Lucy killing story as she would have been prominent in the live episode |

I noticed this last week and its starting to become distracting. She seems to huff and puff a lot too. Not sure if its intentional or not but its annoying me.

She has a permanent slapped arse face. Barely ever smiles. Always sounds miserable or annoyed, and as you and Skittle say, is permenantly rolling her eyes or huffing. She is a singularly joyless character to watch, even by EE standards. Still, I don't think she's unfixable. We just need SOC to work his magic on her now.

All I'm seeing is a lot of jealousy in this thread. Loads of it.

I actually agree with what people say about her. During her last stint, she was way overused and they tried to make her a bigger character than she ever should have been. It doesn't help when Jacqueline Jossa makes the character sound really dumb and stupid at times. People get bored of a character when they are so overused, you see this with every soap. |

Why, because people don't rate the actress or the character ?

I don't mind her but I feel like she was only ever pushed to the forefront of the sho5w because a lot of viewers fancied her. Hence why she never once won any awards for her acting. She is probably the most popular character in the grand scheme of things though along with Mick, Stacey and Phil.

Her return has been very weak.
Abi is the more interesting Sister and herself and Steven dont work as a couple. |

I don't see the point in having her around at all, like most of the characters who were introduced during that 'new wave' 2006-ish era, she dried up as a character a loooong time ago.
Like Stacey and Denise, she is a charisma vacuum and sucks the life out of any scene she is in. |

I don't mind Lauren, but I do think Whitney and Abi are both much better characters at the moment.
Lumbering her with a baby hasn't helped. Some characters (such as Lola and Stacey IMO) benefit from being a mother as it makes them more mature or settled, but it seems to have just drained the life out of Lauren. The relationship with Steven is awful too - Jac Jossa doesn't seem to have romantic chemistry with anyone but Lauren and Steven are just dull. It feels like they're only together for the sake of a 'shock' when Steven returned with her. She works perfectly fine when she's with Whitney, Abi, Stacey - I've even enjoyed her scenes with Lee and the women at the hen party recently. She just needs something decent to do apart from mope around with the baby on her hip or the so-called web designing 'business' that came from nowhere. Split up her and Steven too. Saying that, Jacqueline has said we find out what really happened with Peter soon and there's Max's (and Cora's?) return coming up so I'm sure she'll be more prominent again soon. |
