Not sure whether you were replying to me but I never said she was weak, I think she's good - not the best but decent enough. I have no problems with people liking Fleur but this isn't the appreciation thread either. My point is, would she have done so well if she hadn't been as heavily pushed as she was? You can't deny that Syco made sure that song was absolutely everywhere for ages. The fact her album hasn't sold well and that there wasn't really any other successful single shows that without heavy advertising and promotion, the public aren't yet buying what she's selling. And yet, with all that heavy promotion Sax only got to #3 - I'm sure Syco were aiming for a #1.

You can't force the public to like an act, no matter how talented they are or how much they deserve it. And nobody's bashing anybody for liking her, I'm certainly not anyway - I don't think she's untalented. People are rightfully annoyed at Syco's constant promotion - it's heavy-handed, smacks of manipulation (especially with all the adverts it soundtracked) and is biased. They don't promote all their acts that way. You can still be a fan and say these things.

Oh come on - No one could get number one with Beiber and Adele in the way - syco have expressed they are more than happy with fleurs success - it was a worldwide hit and she's a new artist - and without streaming she got to number 2 - what female apart from Adele has got a number one this year? :-/ Fleur is no different to how she's been pushed - from anyone else on the show - album hasn't done well! What coz it got to number 14 how is that even bad? Sales figures aren't - it's at 100k who's selling albums these days apart from well established artists! Fleurs first week sales have been higher than all year round - Craig David for example has had about 5 singles out and has sold 24k for a first week sale - he got number 1, Fleur sold 27k and got number 14 - so perspective?

Have a look at wiki it's been certified in several countries so I class that as worldwide success as it's not just uk

Sure ok she's done well! I'm not sad or annoyed about it but it's not like she's done anything since Sax. If she was as popular as her sales indicate, then where's the second single? Where's the longevity in the upper eschelons of the charts for her album? She was pushed way more than the winner of her series was, and that's not exactly fair I think. And they're still trying to make Fleur happen. It's the subliminal side of it that irks me, the constant use in adverts and background music. Maybe it'll work and she'll come back with a big second album campaign that's sustained over multiple singles. If there's demand for it, that shouldn't be a problem to achieve.

Well I said it depends on what the material is like she said its more current so that will help going to retro doesn't always connect - so time to try something else and have a better campaign - they could've carried on with LSAF and had other singles there are better on the album but they decided to start working on another album - that was sycos choice

They wouldn't have done that if they thought there was more success and money to be made from it though. I'd like to see Fleur do something away from the Sax/uptown funk sound, something more soulful and stripped back.

Yeah she said she's got a complete new sound - current so maybe thatl work - nah they had gold watch Paris and kitchen which would've went down well but nevermind I agree to start on Something else, shes hinted at a duet also

Sure. And 'Sax' was a year ago and yet we're still getting it featured in every single show like a tedious weekly recurrence of herpes. Doesn't she have any other songs? Is the album so weak and unmemorable that they can't vary their Shameless-Fleur-Placement™ just a tad, if only to spare those of us who don't worship at the altar of mediocrity? I mean stick cardboard cutouts of her face on the dancers for the other acts, uses MK Ultra brainwashing techniques, whatever, just change it up a bit! For Cowell's obsession with what is 'current' he sure does like to flog a dead (and dated) horse.

We're discussing the irritating overuse of Sax within the show in a pretty light-hearted manner. Just because it happens to be a Fleur song doesn't mean you can shut down all discussion about the show. You are not the Fleur Police. To paraphrase yourself, if you don't like threads about the relentlessly repetitious well-past-its-sell-by-date over-promotion of Sax go read another thread. Simple really.


Um. Syco is a company, not a single man. That's a fact. With that in mind you may want to reconsider your initial sentence.

1D and LM had huge promotion but I didn't see people on here getting steamed up about it. Double standards me think.

I like sax its a great uptempo song which shouldn't be taken so literally - it is a dance pop song its used by choreographers to make up dance routines to - no okay so its not a vocal showcase kind of song Its all about the beat and the instant instrumental

Not to this extent they didn't. For 1D and Little Mix it was the fans that made them as big as they were/are. 1D were hugely popular before they ever even released music and Simon/SYCO jumped on that popularity and hysteria and ran with it by getting music out. With Little Mix I don't think SYCO ever expected them to even still be around. It's only recently that I think they've realised that they're actually more popular than they thought and have put more of an effort into them. Fleur has had one hit in the UK, and in order to get that one hit they gave her a big promo slot on the XF to launch it, she performed it on many other big high profile shows, it was used in a huge advert campaign and many, many other promo slots/opportunities were used too. A year later and they're still promoting her based on that one song.

In terms of the song itself, obviously I can't speak for everyone who doesn't like it, however for me it is due to the fact that it's just a blatant rip off of 'Uptown Funk'. It just stinks of Cowell seeing her perform 'Uptown Funk' and telling producers "I want a song like that". It just sounds like a rip off, it sounds cheap and tacky. The song is called 'Sax', yet that there's not even the sound of a saxophone in the song. There's nothing original about the song.

Of course not, but you're completely missing the point. Simon/SYCO have been shoving this song ('Sax') down people's throats for a whole year now at every opportunity. 1D/Little Mix never had that sort of promotion for any of their music.

Yeah I agree sax was taken off the back of uptown funk but it doesn't sound literally like ot - same structure of song - there is a sax in the song whenever she sings with a live band - a saxophone is used you can hear the sax during the verses also. Lots of songs sound like each other also - ed sheerin being sued for ripping off Marvin Gaye - its just artists getting inspiration.

Maybe Simon Likes Sax - its noT Fleurs fault I expect when her new song comes out Sax wont be played so much, therefore you won't have to worry

Black magic is played everywhere so yes little mix have had the same level as promo and they're back on XF next week promoting the new one so yes a lot of syco acts use XF to launch their next singles - no biggie

That is just because a lot of companies and the media like it. It is used as backing for many shows and programmes. It wouldn't be used if it wasn't popular.

Unless it's not a hit. In which case it will be Sax again every single week to remind us she exists while they scramble in the background trying to source something, anything to make her something more than a one hit wonder.

You are both completely missing the point of this thread. It's not to do with other shows or media that may or may not use the song for whatever reasons. It's about the XF itself using it week in week out as if there is literally no other music in the world

Can't see em dropping Fleur just yet - I have only heard it 3 times - in those talk talk ad breaks it's either lush life, you don't know love, give me your love or something else
