The 'joke' acts
intoxication
10-10-2016
So Brattavio or whatever they're called were on Good Morning Britain this morning being interviewed and they were asked the usual questions such as "What's next for you"? (Answers included television presenting and appearing on Celebrity Big Brother). They were also asked if they had a feeling they would be eliminated first or whether they thought they could be like Reggie and Bollie and make it all the way the final. They said that they thought they were in with a shot to get to the final but once they knew Honey G was put through as a contestant they had no chance.

Piers Morgan started questioning them on how Honey G was probably the worst contestant in the show so why would they set their standards to hers but their answer got me wondering about past 'joke contestants'. It was obvious from their answer that they knew they were a joke contestant which is why they thought they didn't stand a chance once Honey G (the 'superior' joke act) was through to the lives. But from memory the past joke contestants took it quite seriously and didn't think they were lesser talented or more unworthy of being there compared to other contestants. Has there been acts in the past who knew they were just there to fill in the numbers and for people to laugh and point at?

You know, I heard Rylan talking about Brattavio and Honey G on last week's "This Morning" and he was defending them by talking about how the X Factor isn't just about voice, it's an entertainment show etc yadda.

Thing is, I recall Jedward and Rylan being in the bottom two and being saved more than once. Last night Brattavio was in the bottom two. So at what point is it admitted that these kind of acts AREN'T entertaining? Yeah, Rylan has done well for himself but he's just blandly camp and easily replaceable - he's got where he is more by management rather than talent IMHO...and not because viewers are crying out for him.

It seems to be that they think "camp" automatically equals entertainment. It doesn't.

I may be wrong but I don't think previous "joke" acts have been in the bottom two in the first week. It'll be (mildly) interesting when the voting percentages come out, perhaps they were rock bottom by some considerable distance. I was surprised to see Saara down there with them - her performance was one of the few decent ones on Saturday. Perhaps they realised that saving the joke over her was a step too far even for X Factor.

No, possibly not but then that's easy to arrange. This show is all about headlines. The previous controversies over keeping joke acts have created headlines and boosted ratings. Usually through sheer blandness of contestant and viewer apathy the joke acts do better for a few weeks. Alas, it seems viewers have had enough of high camp. Yeah, we've got Honey G but there's actually something slightly entertaining about her - whereas Brattavio were just obnoxious.

Rylan absolutely knew the score. Look at his cheerful comments about having a feeling he was going out (in the traditional 6th place), followed by being genuinely upset he had knocked out chosen one Ella.

I don't think every earlier acts was in on it, but in the era of Sofabet and so on anyone who is smart enough for the show to work with knows what's up.

And rather than it being "just for people to laugh at", it's actually a great move for the right acts. Rylan and Jedward have both built successful careers out of it, more successful than many of the winners and chosen ones over the years. I'm sure Brattavio are looking forward to a CBB stint and hoping the same.

Blonde Electra were out first week. As with Brattavio they got a staging with colour vomit everywhere, because the producers preferred Stevi.

There's no worse position than second choice joke act, except perhaps second choice boyband only there to make the first choice look good (FYD/1D, Overload Generation/Stereo Kicks).

Tin foil boys were nasty , no talent and clearly think they should be on the telly ,there just fame hungry bitches , now they have turned on Louis , and want to go into big brother to show the public what they are really like , but we remember them from coach trip etc no one fell for there camp act , it's 2016 you don't need to shock people with your sexuality to get attention, you can be gay and not bitchy

I don't believe for one minute that the gruesome twosome entered for any other reason than to raise their profile to open the doors to higher profile reality shows like CBB or IAC.
They want to be Jeward crossed with Rylan and, sadly, will probably become a fixture on our screens over the next couple of years

and the fact that the XF allows these talentless wannabes the oxgen to become famous for nothing else than having no embarassment threshold is a very poor reflection on SYCO imo

They just weren't likable. Honey G, at least, seems fairly likable. And I'm not sure it's all "point and laugh" appeal when it comes to joke acts, it's more about taking a break from the monotony of mediocre karaoke that the show can quite often turn into. There's an earnest joy in silliness. Pretty sure many joke acts are aware of what they are, but just choose not to see it.

I said this when those two did Judges Houses.

Most other "joke" acts have been midly likeable.

Rylan knew exactly what he was doing. Stevi seemed like a nice chap. Chico is a good bloke. Christ, even Jedward are apparently two incredibly well-mannered lads. These two had nothing about them. Nothing whatsoever.

Maybe the mentors/Cowell/those pulling the strings will realise, we don't want these novelty acts any more. And no, they don't "put the fun factor in the X Factor". The "fun" will be hearing talented singers and groups. And Honey G, to a lesser extent.

They were just not interested in the competition, just the exposure,. Weren't both featured in Body Fixers recently? Anywho, what a half-arsed performance. Compare them with His Holiness Wagner's bongos from heaven!

Personally I would not have any joke acts in the show. It detracts from the talented singers, and they are just attention seekers like Honey, and the chicken boys.

I think this year went to a new low

Instead of just one or 2 judges making bad decisions, all 4 judges made decisions people have to questions as it really doesn't make a lot of sense.

I feel they have brought enough fodder to get ride off to leave them with their chosen few who they don't mind helping along the way

Even "Joke" acts like Jedward and Rylan were at least fun

I thought Honey G knew she had been cast as this year Chico, Wagner, Stevi etc, and she was willing to be a good sport and play along with it.

But then you get headlines like this:

http://www.reveal.co.uk/showbiz-cele...velty-act.html

So I don't know whether to take her seriously or not. If she is serious then I think she's deluding herself.
