Thought provoking, realistic and Dramatic. Hate stunts and sensationalism. EE does not need to do those type of stories.

I went for thought provoking, issue based and dramatic.
Noone can match Eastenders for issue led storylines imo. |

I love sensationalism. I know it isn't well liked on here but i do love it. One of the main reasons why i love the US soaps a lot. But i don't like pure sensationalism all the way
I do like drama, issue led, realism and thought provoking I hate comedic storytelling with a passion. And stunts are just a lame way to grab ratings and gain tabloid attention. |

I'd have liked to have added romantic to mine because on the rare occasion they get it right and there is real chemistry it's a treat. Unfortunately most couples are just thrown together for convenience. When was the last time we got a Kat and Alfie love story that we could all get behind. Mind you I'd settle for the sizzling sexual chemistry between Denise and Kush.😊

I voted for thought provoking, realistic and dramatic but honestly everything on that list is needed, it just has to be used in the right amounts.
I don't want non stop comedy and silly plots. That's not why I watch these types of programmes, however a little comedy used sparsely throughout is refreshing. I don't want a stunt every week like Hollyoaks had between the end of 2013-2015 because they're supposed to be special and out of the ordinary. One massive stunt every two years or so is needed imo. I love sensationalism too unlike the majority of people here. Janine, Brendan Brady, Mitzeee, Michael Moon and now the Whites in Emmerdale are all such ott and sensationalist characters but they're my absolute favourites. A few sensationalist plots and characters mixing with the more normal residents is a lot of fun. However ( I'm picking on HO again and to a lesser extent Dtc Eastenders) too much can make them feel less special.

![]() Yeah actually thinking about it a nice romantic story would be good over the winter months. Quote:
Yes would have chosen that but chose thought provoking instead

Great idea for a thread, Scrabs! I voted for thought-provoking and dramatic but like Louis_Brady says, all are needed in certain amounts. I'd have also added 'Dark' to the list; I love it when soaps push boundaries.

I think in a soap it's best to have a good mixture.

Thought-provoking, dramatic and realistic. Romantic plots can be nice sometimes and a bit of sensationalism is fine but comedy and stunts are usually a dud.

If they only did one type of storyline, it would either be boring, too much like Hollyoaks, too surreal etc. |

I went for issue based and dramatic, but 'kitchen sink' would've been my choice if listed.

Well that'sa given
![]() ![]() To expand on my point if it's well written and acted any type of storyline is a winner. Kat/Zoe, and Den's return were sensationalist but for me beautifully executed. Shabnam's miscarriage and Little Mo's domestic abuse were issue based and I felt the same. Shirley/Mick and Kathy's return were sensationalism but poorly done, Tina's domestic abuse was issue based but it felt like a dud. |
