In a nutshell.
And the recent court case showed that he's not just a knob, but a bare faced liar.
His public image has taken a bit of a knock recently, and he's obviously realised that more and more people now know that he's not the nice guy he's been pretending to be. Hence the pathetic attempts to garner sympathy by conjuring up yet another imaginary ailment. The only thing he genuinely suffers from is an acute lack of talent.
As for comparing himself to the Beckhams - I'm no fan of either of them, but in celebrity terms it's like comparing sirloin steak to a week old spam sandwich.

But the 'social anxiety' stuff annoys me. No, no, no, no, no. Social anxiety is a serious disorder. It is not just feeling a bit shy. I can well imagine he feels nerves before an event or something, I imagine most people do. But to do what he does and then say he has this 'condition' actually trivialises it. I realise he has had anxiety and panic attacks in the past, absolutely. But that is another issue.
Robbie Williams...ok, he is a performer, an entertainer. But it is always clear that he is insecure. He puts on the cocky, overconfident act but he clearly doesn't like himself deep down. He's had so many troubles. He wants to be liked, he shows off, but underneath all that you can see that insecurity, anxiety, depression, whatever. And, in fact, for Peter Andre to say he's 'known him for years and never knew it was a problem for him'...really?! I've never been anywhere near the guy and it's clear that he struggles.
It is no wonder people think social anxiety is just shyness and people need to just get over it or something. It's debilitating. I cannot walk into a room of people on my own. I can't make eye contact. I can't physically speak to more than about two people in a group, all I can manage is whispering. I get exhausted after about an hour of socialising. I panic at the idea of speaking in a group. I avoid social situations with friends I have known for years. Ok, my social anxiety is very severe, people suffer differently. But it is not some cute bandwagon to jump on, and this is what this comes across as.”
I couldn't agree more with all of this, particularly the BIB.
He clearly doesn't understand what it's like to
really suffer from social anxiety, and I don't believe for a second that he does, or ever has, suffered from it himself.
Groping Katie Price at the opening of envelopes, being filmed for interminable tv series, dragging a camera crew on every outing and holiday and blathering to the press at every opportunity don't seem to me to be the actions of someone with social anxiety. He clearly thinks that as his good, good friend Robbie Williams has decided to open up about his own issues, that social anxiety must the the fashionable disorder for celebrities to suffer from at the moment, so he's pretending to suffer from it himself.
It's not the first time he's done it - in the past he's also claimed to have been a victim of bullying and racism. As you say, there isn't a bandwagon he won't jump on.
I think he's absolutely taking the piss out of people who are genuinely suffering, but as long as he gets his ugly mug in the press, who cares about insignificant little things like truthfulness? Not Peter.
