Exactly. Prices aren't high because of "little shits" ripping people off as some seem to think. It's because people are willing to pay large amounts of money for items that are freely available.

Its like corgi toys though. Millions were produced but It's pretty rare though to find it in its box which ups the value of it. The price of It also depends on the current market. 10 -15 years ago you couldn't give it away but in 2016 retro gaming is in. It maybe just a 30 year old game but to collectors it's a collectable antique. Also many of the people after these games weren't even alive when the nes/snes/n64 etc was being produced. To them it's a new game.

Theres also alot of fakes on that game. I never bought it at the time as it wasent really a game I was into.

Resellers dont help though. I saw a video about this Gameboy game and the guy who had like 40 copies tested it by selling it high and now he cant get the market to drop the price because of his stupidity.
Meanwhile, NES Mini continues to be as scarce as rocking horse shit and is selling for up to 4 times its retail price as a result. |

Corgi's are completely different though.
And one video on YouTube doesn't describe the entire process of antique/rarity markets. |

When Nintendo releases more NES Mini's enough to cover this demand the scalpers won't be able to give them away.
One of a Facebook Selling site even admitted that he knows give it until after Christmas he wouldn't be able to sell them as shops will have plenty in. |

Thing is: Nintendo ALWAYS do this. Most notable case, for me, was with Goldeneye on the N64. It creates publicity and demand and they rake it in and folk never, ever, learn.

AS it stands I think the Mini NES is great value for it's money 30 games for £50 is like £1.67 a game plus the hardware connects to your TV easily with the included hdmi and usb leads and you get an authentic looking NES controller, So the whole bundle hardware and software is great value.
People compare it to RetroPie but that isn't a fair comparison imho as emulation is using pirated ROMs, it would be like comparing some band's new album costing you £10 at Amazon which is a rip-off as I can get it for free on some torrrent site. These games are still copyrighted and licence fees have to be considered. |

Nintendo have publicly announced that more NES Mini will be available between now and Christmas. It would have been nice if supply was plentiful, but they can't be any more transparent than that.

Again, though, they always say more stock will come before Xmas. They have prior on this with so many items. And there probably will be stuff in shops but it'll be more trickle stock. Keeps interest high. We won't see decent stock on shelves until the new year.
Mind you, this is Nintendo we're talking about. Logic was never their strong point. |

You don't quite understand, do you? Of course Corgi toys are a different thing but the processes around their resale value is similar and the same in places.
And one video on YouTube doesn't describe the entire process of antique/rarity markets. You get people going on ebay and going oh such and such is worth 60 quid boxed. NO IT BLOODY ISNT! Just because someone puts 60 quid on a buy it now doesnt mean they will get that price for it. They need to look at auction sale prices not dreamland prices. Anyone could go on ebay and do that say mario 3 and put 300 but they wont sell it at that. |

There's a lot of high quality reproductions, simply because it's so hard to find. Genuine copies sell for a lot of money because of the rarity and desirability.

That doesn't seem right. Surely it's commercial suicide to purposely withhold stock through the biggest buying season of the year.

Corgi's are very collectable, I cant say the same thing for a NES game because of how massively produced they were...

In the US, some of the carts- eg Contra- that there would likely still be hundreds of thousands of copies of, and aren't rare, are still worth $30-40. There are some popular games where demand exceeds supply even if there are a lot of them.

Sounds wrong but it works. Check out NO LOGO by Naomi Klein for other examples. I think it was initially done by trainer manufacturers such as Nike and Reebok but, to be honest, they probably nicked the idea from someone else
NES games are collectable (you state enough evidence of the fact yourself) and Corgi cars were mass produced. They were both mass produced but widely not looked after, which is why boxed, mint/working versions of both Corgi cars and NES games change hands for silly money. If you don't wish to pay silly prices then no one is forcing anybody but the fact that there 'are' people who will pay the high amounts mean that these items will continue to command high amounts. |

Boxed NES games don't seem to show up too often on ebay in mint condition. I think generally they are a bit battered obviously because Nintendo went with the cheap cardboard option.
Incidentally, the cardboard grade used in carts really wasn't much different from what Corgi used... or Transformers... or many things that used standard gsm card for boxes - I have a few carts, Transformers AND Corgi cars, boxed - there's not much, if any, difference (from when I was a kid, I'm not one of the high price payers )

Just ordered 1 from Amazon Spain for those that want 1. Total price including shipping is 57 quid. Estimated delivery date between 16th -20th December. Slightly more than what it's going for but at least I don't have the hassle of finding 1

Anyone can print a game case and disk for pennies. |
