For those of us who (sometimes) like to talk about non smutty stuff.

You can talk about what you want but it would be most appreciated if people could please try to keep the smutty talk to a minimum so that other topics don't get lost amongst it. You may also post at any time day or night.

I do hope the mods allow this thread as they have done with the other through the night thread.

Good evening Retro,

I, like you only watch EE, well that's a lie I do watch Emmerdale again but am not expert enough to comment along with others on here on that one

I have wide and varied interests from history, psychology, travel, cookery and some literature to comedy, drama and smut (I will omit it on this thread though as asked )

Lovely thread let the debate begin

Thankyou Aaron, much appreciated!

I only watch EastEnders but read Inside Soap so I do know a little about the others but not enough to discuss them.

I love the 'older' comedies my favourite being Allo Allo with my favourite man, Herr Flick.

I favour the older music too, hence the funny username, fave decade is the 80s with my faves being PSB and Madonna.

I like swimming and go three times a week and am a member of Slimming World where I have lost two and a half stone.

But that's enough about me!

Oh and sorry to hear you've been having a crap time hope you feel better very soon.

Long time no hear Retro. Good to see you try to get something new started. A versatile forum is a healthy addition for other ideas. So I wish you luck and hope it gathers momentum. So keep on rockin' in the swimmin' and slimmin'. Best wishes on your new venture.

Crack on Retro!

I love all the main soaps and also watch Pobol y cwm and general hospital, but generally float in out with them, I haven't brought inside soap in years, use to buy in religiously back in the day,

I'm more of a boxset watcher now, currently feasting on buffy s7, my amazon prime stick is a godsend!

I love documentaries, crime programme are my fave, anyone seen the amanda knox one on netflix?

I'm a a make up and beauty addict, their a large community on facebook and youtube, I love watching men do their makeup they seriously have some skills.

Music wise I like folky type music The Staves, Florence & The Machine type bands, although I don't mind mainstream either.

Thats all I can think off for now.

Great idea Retro. I hope it takes off. Being an oldie I'm often at a loss when it comes to chat. I remember when I watched the very first episode of 'allo 'allo, I went into work the next day telling everyone they must watch it because it was fabulous and we were all hooked within weeks, and loved talking in very bad French accents.

I only watch EE these days but watched most Soaps at some time or another. Saw the first episodes of CS and EE.

Thankyou for all the lovely support and kind wishes!

I hope this thread will thrive as I want to do my bit for all the people who wish to discuss topics other than mucky stuff, not that I've banned the mucky stuff completely but I want to get a more balanced discussion going so I created this thread so good luck everybody!

You can chat here anytime you want about what you want especially if it's to do with Allo Allo. I love that programme so I do enjoy a bit of good old smut and Allo Allo has it in spades!

I LOVE the wonky french accent, Crabtree is one of my faves along with Herr Flick (who i absolutely adore) Lieutenant Gruber, (i say Gid moaning to people all the time)

Everyone is welcome the more the merrier and it will keep this thread going!

Hi there!

I didn't think you would be long before you posted as I don't think you were too happy in the other thread were you?

You're always welcome here especially if Madonna talk is on the menu!

The beauty of 'allo 'allo was that every character was a joy. Unlike Retro I just couldn't pick a favourite.....they were all cracking.

Will put that on my list to watch

The old comedies still got a charm about them that new ones lack imo.

I'm with Little Monster. The other thread felt too much like a gang only certain members were welcomes into so I never bothered posting in it. This one seems like it will be better.

Speaking of old comedies I adored Keeping Up Appearances. I also just finished watching the entire One Foot In The Grave boxset. I love how whenever Mrs Warboys appears you just know something bad is going to happen to her

I was ill last month and spent 2/3 days watching the whole series of Keeping up appearances. Such a great show. Hyacinth is one of the greatest comedic characters ever.

I got into Are you being served this year. Love it. Wish i had discovered it earlier. But i grew up mainly with US sitcoms so i have really only discovered a fair share of british sitcoms quite late in my life.

I also love Dinnerladies, Ab Fab, Gimme Gimme Gimme, Vicar of dibley and Porridge. In terms of modern day british sitcoms, I have only ever liked The Inbetweeners and Raised By Wolves.

Keeping up with appearance and one foot in the grave, I forget there so many old gems, I watch the young Hyacinth recently despite objections I did enjoy it, apparently they decided to not commission it into a series though.

Dinnerladies and who can forget The Inbetweeners that is probably the last great comedy other the G&S of recent times, I never got into Mrs Brown boys

Raised By Wolves is that the one based on Caitlin Moran book?

I don't know if it based on a book, but i know it is based on her childhood.

and I thought Young Hyacinth was dreadfully unfunny but thought the casting of Kerry Howard was spot on.

I think they was trying a different angle less comedy but a kind of in between drama.

Kerry Howard is fab though

I had no idea she was related to Russell Howard until a few months ago.

BIB: Wow very well done to you Retro! I bet you're very pleased with your progress so far. I've lost one stone eight since the middle of August (I used to be about two stone over a healthy weight so trying to get back to the healthy category).

It is really heartwarming to read all the positive remarks in this thread.

Yeah I'd definitely recommend Allo Allo to anyone who's never seen it as it's such a well written and hilarious programme and I do have my favourites but every actor/character does an amazing job!

Other comedies which make me laugh out loud are

Only Fools And Horses
One Foot In The Grave
Open All Hours
Porridge
Fawlty Towers
Keeping Up Appearances
Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em
It Ain't Half Hot Mum
Hi De Hi
Steptoe And Son
Citizen Smith
Birds Of A Feather
Dinnerladies
Early Doors

Dirty talk is ok as long as it doesn't take over the thread like it does it the TTN thread.
